Slow Cooking Thursday!!! May 3, 2007


Welcome to my weekly Crockpot Recipes Exchange. It's such a great way to share your avorite dishes or to learn some new ones to make for your family.

The Best Oatmeal


2 cups milk
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon melted butter
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 cup oatmeal (not the instant kind, but the slower cooking kind)
1 cup chopped apple
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)


Preparation Instructions:

Apply cooking spray or grease the inside of your slow cooker. Pour milk into crock-pot with remaining ingredients and stir. Cover just before going to bed, turn on the low setting. By morning it will be ready. Add more milk as desired.

Makes 4 servings



All-American Sausage Crockpot



1 can (10-1/2 ounces) condensed beef broth
1 cup water
1/8 teaspoon pepper
2 medium onions, quartered
6 carrots, julienned
1-1/2 cup celery, diced
2 potatoes, pared and diced
2 tablespoons water
1 lb smoked sausage

Combine broth, water and all vegetables except potatoes in your slow cooker. Cover and cook for 1 hour on low. Add potatoes. Cover and cook for 6 hours on low. Add sausage and cook for an additional hour.

I am always trying to make myself like oatmeal, I haven't tried it this way.

The sausage looks wonderful too!

One day I might actually have a crockpot recipe that YOU haven't provided :) I'm just now discovering the wonderful help a crockpot can be.

Thanks for lettin' me know this was 'up and running'! Oatmeal is consumed here 4 mornings a week! This looks like a very yummy way to make and enjoy it ;).

That oatmeal recipe sounds wonderful! I bet Kayla would eat that right up! I plan on making it for Sat morning.

My kids just love oatmeal and lately the price for instant is really high. Thanks for sharing your recipe. I will have to try to make it one day. When you say put it up before you go to bed how many hours do you normally put it up before it gets dry and yucky tasting?
