{ At the dinner table }

Photobucket

And so it went that on the second week of a sick household, the family finally came together at the dinner table.

Yes, it's been a mish mash of stragglers through mealtime, you know when everyone is feeling horrible and then they start getting better but everyone has different immune systems and different levels of sickness? So when one is well on the road to recovery the other one is seriously lagging behind or just getting started?

Well mealtimes around here have been just that, whoever was well enough to get to the table made it and whoever was not, had a tray in bed or on the couch or even at the computer desk, though I shudder to think and I hope you don't think of me less for that. See when people are sick I tend to be one of those "whatever makes you feel better" kinda gals. With some limitations of course, there are some requests which should NEVER even be thought of, in my opinion.

Like, oh....wanting to drink while laying down or eating a big bowl of soup while in the shower. You may think me crazy, but I kid you not. That last request was made by my 5 year old....apparently it took all his energy just to get into the shower and he was trying to kill two birds with one stone and all that jazz. As much as I applaud him for the imagination, that is a request which I assured him would never be carried out in this house.

So here we are, a family gathered at the table, finally, after two weeks. It's like seeing everyone for the first time, food was eaten with ooh's and aah's and voices were excitedly thrown out over the table, what so and so did at school or what they learned or even who made them mad. I listened intently, with a big smile on my face because after all, it means everyone is over this horrible, disgusting, stubborn cold.

For those of you still going through it, all I can say is, hang in there, it WILL start to get better. We're not completely 100 %, there is still the random runny nose and cough and I'm going through the "can smell" day, tomorrow who knows? Probably the "can't taste and can't smell day".

I have to tell you, I'm really enjoying the weather here lately, we're in our high 70's and tomorrow and the weekend we'll be hitting 85 degrees. It certainly is looking like spring around here, there's green grass all over and tiny little buds protruding from tree branches. It feels good outside.

I've just updated the 31 Days Prayer for today, it's still in my sidebar, I think I like it better over there and at the end of the month I'll put the link up to all the prayers so it's easy to find.

One thing I've been able to do a lot of this past week, is catch up on my tv viewing and I'm really enjoying it....things like American Idol (absolutely love Danny Gokey) and General Hospital which is my favorite soap. Then I get to smile and be thrilled that my favorite couple Jason and Sam are back on screen together and seemingly heading toward a reunion which in soap speak means it could take anything from a day to a year with an imminent break up again and reunion AGAIN down the line. But it's what makes soaps so much fun for me....it's the little guilty pleasure of sitting down and watching something on tv that is so completely different from your real life.

So you see, it's been so interesting around here LOL

A couple of you asked me about the laptop I got and I can't believe I forgot to tell you all about it, I'm embarassed, but I'll make up by telling you now....I didn't get anything extravagant as a matter of fact I told the guys at Best Buy (which you really really really should go to if you're ever looking to buy anything electronic) that I didn't want all the bells and whistles, as long as I would get me online to check email and blogs and upload my photos, it was perfect for me.

I got a really cute Toshiba laptop which runs beautifully and is just what I wanted.....plus it comes with a built in webcam which is wonderful for Skype and talking to my family back home in South Africa.

So there you go, now you know what I got. And as for the digital camera, it's a Finepix S1000FD.

http://www.itreviews.co.uk/graphics/normal/hardware/h1590.jpg
Perfect for what I want but not too bulky to drag around. Completely overwhelming at first, I didn't even want to touch it for fear of breaking it, but now I know her and she knows me and we've become the best of friends.

So there you go, not much going on here other than the usual home stuff. I'm going to take off now and get some blog reading done, maybe dive into my Craft Basket and see what's going on in there. Oh and be prepared because I'm going to make you Crochet, you better go ahead and find your crochet hooks and yarn and get on ready, I'll have you making Granny Squares in no time.

I'll leave you with a question:
What is your favorite soap on tv, or do you not watch any at all....and if you're a General Hospital fan I really want to know who your favorites are. I know I may ask some weird questions at times but I really like getting to know my readers and what better way than to ask random/nutty questions?

I watch All My Children when I can. I grew up watching that and OLTL and GH. I haven't watched GH in probably 13 years. Sometimes I watch Guiding Light and two of my favorite actors from that show jumped over to AMC which makes me happy.

Cute story about your son in the shower..
About T.V. I rarely watch it, I find that is insults my intelligence most of the time with silliness. I prefer to read.

Hi Sandra!
Sorry to hear that everyone has been sick at your place. I pray that everyone will start feeling better soon. I've been sick for the past 4 weeks and it's killing me.
I just don't feel like doing anything when I'm sick and I'm rarely sick, so when it hits it's terrible!
I don't watch soaps. As a kid I watched soaps or novelas in Spanish and loved those, because they didn't go on for an eternity. But now that I'm older, I just can't seem to get into them. Plus, I speak Spanish and English; Steve speaks Arabic and English; and Lyv understands alittle of all three. So, we usually just stick to English. lol
I love that you ask ramdom questions on your blog. My readership has gone down and even when I do ask questions, I rarely if ever get answers. lol
Apparently, I attempting to write a novel in your comments section. I guess I'm just in a chatty mood. lol

Hugs to you my friend,
Eden

Glad to hear you all are starting to feel better.. I went to bed last night with a fever but I think I'm okay this morning.

If I ever watch a soap it's always been Days of our Lives.. my mom was hooked on that show and got me to watching it.

That spaghetti looks so creamy and delicious! I'm definitely trying that recipe soon.

I don't watch soaps. Growing up I watched the Young and the Restless but only because my mom did.

I used to watch All my Children when I was home during the day. I started to tape it and watch it after work but decided it was taking too much of my time, so no more soaps for me.

Soaps are my guilty pleasure. I watch all of the ABC soaps. I bounce between GH and AMC being my favorite. Depending on what is going on. I like Jason & Sam but I wanted Jason & Elizabeth to be happy for just a little while.

Glad your family is feeling better. Have a great weekend!

I'm so glad to hear that you are all feeling better. Thankfully we have not had more than a sniffle. I think that is mostly because after my back surgery we became shutins! LOL. About soaps, I use to watch GH, but while I was going through the divorce I felt like I was living the story lines. I just never got back into them. We bought a new camera last year, a Kodak and we love it. I'm still trying out all the features. Last night I sat down again with it and shot the cat...LOL! That didn't come out right at all! Have a great day. I've also posted about our Love Dare journey. It will be my Friday feature. Hopefully my husband will blog about it as well.

I started watching General Hospital with my grandmother when I was three years old! I watched it for about 25 years and then quit. I quit watching after Tristan Rogers (Scorpio) left. It was time. There was a time when I started watching All My Children, then One Life To Live, and then General Hospital while the kids were young and I was doing housework. If I had to work that day I taped it! I don't watch any soaps any more. No time, no energy, no desire.

I'm glad you have warm temps...it was 18 here this morning..and it stinks. But this will pass and this summer I will complain about humidity wont I????
The spaghetti looks wonderful.I'm hungry now.
As for television...you know I love it all...but for soaps...I'm faithful to The Young and the Restless and Days of our Lives....I have been watching them both since I was 10...lol.

Ohhhhhhhhh "merde"!!!!!!! But that Baked Spaghetti looks gooooooood!!!!!!

So sorry that the winter sickness lingers. But glad it's letting up, for you. 'Tis the same in most households with school age kids, I fear.

Sure is the same, with next door. They and another young family took 3 days, for a get-together really cheap vacation, only a few miles away from here. Near and cheap, but a tiny vacation. :-) Got one good day in, and then kids got sick. Bleahhhh... ,-)

P.S. What's "merde"? It's French for........ something. >,-)

Oooops, forgot the soap opera question...

Don't watch any now, but used to, on and off. Yes, I watched some "General Hospital" but too long ago, to help you. Watched "All My Children" too. And at one time, got REALLY INTO the "Noah/Julia Love Story."

Was taking care of my little grand daughter at the time so I had to tape "AMC" and watch it, after she got picked up. Eeeeek! It was *torture* to wait to see what happened next. -grin- That was one cool long-drawn-out story line!!!!

Wonder if anyone remembers the "Noah and J." story line?????

Not a soap fan at all. But I do have a question for you...is that a photo of your kitchen window? If so, where did you find the beautiful curtain?

No soap operas anymore for me. Haven't watched them in about 7 years. I grew up with my mom watching Day of our Lives though. Every once in a while I catch a minute of it while flipping channels and seriously, nothing has changed!

I"m glad you are enjoying your new laptop!

I can easily get addicted to soaps and other shows, but now there are always little eyes and ears so I don't watch much. Plus I just don't have time! American Idol is my exception--I can usually find time for that. :) (What does it say about my 5yo that Tatiana is her favorite??) :)

I work all day now, but when the kids were little I would watch Bold and Beautiful.
Now I don't watch much T.V., with NCIS and The Mentalist as the only exceptions.
If I get bored, I may turn on the Food Network or The Discovery Channel, but not very often.
The 19year old is the TV watcher, and sometimes I will get drawn into some show she has on.

I need to take your lead and get myself a new laptop, too. Mine is over 8 years old!!

Hi Sandra
You know what is crazy? I have been watching gh since I was 5 yrs old! Now I tend to watch it on and off, just because that is when my kids get home from school and is crazy, although I can catch up on soap network. My fav. couple is Sonny and the original Carly (she is playing Claudia right now). I think Jason and Elizabeth were good together too. I like Robin too.
Anyway, the recipe for porkchop supreme looks great; can't wait to try it.

I have watched GH ever since I was a teenager. I like Jason (and I really liked him with Liz), and I love Spinelli and Maxie! They are my favorites right now! I can't stand Kate, and I really don't like Sonny too much right now...

I use to watch Days of Our Lives-never missed a day but then I moved to Italy for a bit and when I came back to the states I was so lost & I tried to get back into it but couldn't. So, now I just surf the TV and watch(actually more listen to) whatever catches my eye which is usually HGTV.

I'm glad you're all feeling better. The warm weather should help. Grandma used to make a baked spaghetti years ago. Thanks for reminding me of the recipe.

When I was a little girl and came home from school grams would sit me down at the kitchen table with a coke in the bottle, a hershey bar and my homework so I'd stay quiet and she could watch General Hospital. I've been hooked ever since. I watch ABC soaps once in a while (after all it only takes once a month to stay current). As for favorites Mac, Jason, used to be Rick Weber when I was young (always had a thing for Richard Dean Anderson), Elizabeth, Ruby from way back...

No soaps for me. Cool on the laptop and camera. I'm glad everyone is feeling better. my hubby has been fighting a cold and my oldest sprained her wrist/arm. That spaghetti looks amazing too. I miss visiting you. I'm on my iphone now and it's just not as east to navigate as my computer.
