{ Me day....because we all need them }

_MG_5137

Every Friday, I tune out from the world and give myself a me day.

That may seem crazy to some of you, or even downright insane.  Thing is, from a very early stage in our marriage and with small kids, my husband and I decided that it was fair, it was needed, in order for me to continue being the best wife, mother and homemaker I could be.

I know the very first thing you think is, "but how, where do you find the time, I can't even go to the bathroom without kids banging on the door".  I know, I've been there, done that, wasn't pleasant and I can say that I get it, I understand, I more than anyone knows that by the time your husband walks in the door from work, you are ready to either drown yourself in some very good wine, or pack your bags and run very very far away from the chaos.

As a woman, as a wife and mother and homemaker, we need to nurture ourselves, and far too often that is neglected because chores, and because kids, and appointments, and errands, and school and more dirty dishes piling up and never ending laundry.

I got to a point where I felt like I was losing myself.  Even to this day if you have to ask me flat out "who are you, what do you like doing?".  I'm not quite sure how to answer that, because I've always been mommy.

So do yourself a favor, set some time aside and start taking a moment for yourself.  It doesn't have to be long.  I started with an hour after dinner.  My husband would play with the kids downstairs, it was their bonding time, and it was my time to take a shower without feeling rushed, and then sit in bed and read for a little, or enjoy a cup of coffee uninterrupted and while it was still hot, or even watch a quick episode of something.

As they got older, it got easier, obviously, they didn't need as much attention as before.  Now that they are about to turn 18 and 14, they need me even less, and so "me time" is much easier to come across.

Friday's are MY days!!!

I do what needs done in the morning and then it's time for me to indulge in anything and everything that calms me down, that renews my soul, that recharges the batteries and gives me the energy I need to get up the next day and get right back into homemaker mode.

I read, and I mean really read, without interruptions and having to constantly put the book down to tend to this or that.

I crochet and don't have to worry about recounting stitches, because I've been interrupted numerous times and the same row I've been working on for the past two days, is not making it past the 10th stitch without me having to recount or sometimes pull apart and start over.

I watch shows, I watch movies or go on Pinterest and spend an hour or so pinning things I'll probably never get around to trying, but nonetheless.

Today, I updated my blog sidebar.  I went back and added some of my favorite blogs, and it brought me so much joy looking back on old favorites from way back in the day.

Can you believe that next month I'll be celebrating 11 years of blogging?  Where has the time gone?

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that if you aren't already taking time for yourself, however little it may be, then please do yourself a favor and do it.  You have to.  I promise you once you start doing this you will go into your days as a mother and wife, with renewed dedication.

You won't run out of patience as fast, you will feel better about your job and you won't feel so lost and so completely out of touch with who you are.

If we don't take care of ourselves, how are we to take care of our loved ones?

Oh and by the way, I wanted to ask y'all what is easier for you when it comes to replying to your comments.  I sometimes reply to you right in the comment section but I don't even know if you are notified about it to realize I've replied.  Would you prefer it I keep replying in the comments or do you want me to come by your blogs instead?

Not to say that I won't come visit you, I fully intend to start doing that on a regular basis, it's just taking me a little to get back into this blogging groove, after all it's been quite a few years since I've blogged properly :)

Just let me know what you prefer and I will be more than happy to oblige :)

I would love to know if you already take time for yourself, and if you do, when do you do it?  Do you have a set day, or a set time in the day for me time?  What do you enjoy doing during those moments, and how do you find the motivation to keep doing what you do as a homemaker?

Leave your comments down below, I really want to chat with you all about this.

I totally agree. My husband would sometimes take our kids to a park or something as a "present" for me to just be home alone. I loved it! For Mother's Day, he would take the kids out for several hours. That time just passed too quickly..ha..
Just reply here....I always check back to where I comment when I comment. I used to jump over to other's blogs to reply but I think this is your blog...just reply here if you wish...I think that is easiest. Andrea

Hahaha right? They would always ask me what I wanted for Mother's Day and I just wanted to sleep in, and not have to cook for anyone that day. Anytime my husband took the kids away, it was the best few hours. I missed them, but desperately needed that alone time :)

I like this idea and oddly just read something about the same idea on another blog. Maybe that's a big hint for myself and it goes along well with my phrase for this year. I usually make my way back to a blog to check replies but I'd just do whatever works best for you.

Well then I think you should go along with the idea and get some time in for yourself haha But really, it makes a world of difference to how we feel and how we tackle the next day. I think as moms we are expected to do so much without really taking care of ourselves, we need to recharge :)

Me time is so important - even if it's just a short time to decompress and recharge. My vote is to reply here also.

When I wake I take a half to one hour to color, I love adult coloring books. And in the evening after dinner, I color again and watch tv. When I go to bed I take time to read.
I love the idea of a whole day for myself, but that doesnt happen to much.
What motivates me is reading blogs like yours, pinterest and the speed cleaning videos at you tube. And remembering that I am doing what God wants.
