I've been MIA haven't I?

I know you probably haven't missed me much, with all my babbling and run on posts about nothing in particular, but I've missed blogging.

It's not like there's been anything interesting going on that has kept me away, I've just been busy with life in general and no matter how much I will time to slow down, it's no use, it just keeps flying by.

You can tell when the tv commercials start showing Christmas stuff...it's great and all, unless it's the newest toys, like that new big dinosaur that moves and reacts to kids. You know the one? The one that costs $299.99?!?!?! So frustrating, I wish there was a way to block commercials from the tv when the kids are in the room LOL

So what exactly have I been up to, well, let's see, I am almost done with Season 3 of Mcleod's Daughters and OH.MY.GOODNESS, did this last episode have me in tears. I won't spoil it for you but I don't recall crying this hard since I watched Sam and Jason on General Hospital when she was dying and he was at her bedside willing her to live. Yeah, THAT much. If you haven't yet started watching McLeod's Daughters you really really, and I mean REALLY don't know what a good show you're missing.

I've also been knitting, working on a scarf for Jasmine using the "My So Called Scarf" pattern which I love. I'm sure I've mentioned it before here but for those that don't know, you can watch this video on YouTube for a tutorial. You won't believe how easy it is and how good it looks.

The kids had school photos taken and we just got them back today, they turned out so good and I'm excited about these because they're Nicholas first School Photos.

In the meantime, Curt has come down with a cold, Nicholas is starting to get it again, Jasmine is trying to slide by without it touching her though her sniffling is increasing and I'm getting the whole congested head thing...AGAIN.

It doesn't help that there is some sort of chest virus going around the area, lots of coughs and the like. I've already started gulping down orange juice and making sure I remember to take my vitamins but sometimes no matter what you do, you STILL have to fight the cold right?

So that's what's been going on around here, I am about to go visit all the lovely SCT participants, I am sorry I'm so late coming around today, but I can sneak in quite a few visits while dinner cooks. After that it's dishes and kitchen clean up, homework with the kids, baths, books, cuddling and bedtime....some knitting might get sneaked in there too just depends on how I'm feeling after they're asleep, with this cold coming around I may just get under the covers and call it an early night.

For now I'm about to go enjoy my dinner....Sausage Rice just like my greatgrandma used to me :)

  1. Sandra - those are really cute school pictures. My kids always had their hair a mess or shirt rumpled... You know how they can look when Mom isn't there to fix it!

  7. I am dying to learn how to knit, I crochet but haven't taken the leap into knitting. Some people I've talked to say it's harder some say it's easier. In any event, I love the color you've chosen for your scarf! Thanks for sharing:)

  9. hi, i am new to the blogging world...i have followed several blogs for a while. i just recently got my blog up and running. i, too, am a military spouse and i wanted to share this with you...

    What is a MILITARY Wife?

A Military wife can be tough to describe.

She is a southern belle, a northeastern Mets fan, a California 3rd generation recycler, a Pacific Islander.

    She is short or tall

    a tomboy

    a fashion diva

    a physician’s assistant

    a Republican

    a Democrat

A Military Wife is a career gal

    a home-schooler

    a scrap-booker

    an accomplished cellist

    an auto mechanic

    What IS a Military Wife?

    WHAT is a Military Wife?

    What is a MILITARY Wife?

They may look different and each is wonderfully unique

But this they have in common.

    They have THIS IN COMMON!

    lots of moving-

    moving

    moving

    moving far from home

moving two cars, three kids and one dog-all riding with HER of course

moving sofas to basements because they won’t go in THIS house

    moving curtains that won’t fit

moving jobs and certifications and professional development hours

moving away from friends moving toward new friends

moving her most important luggage; her trunkful of memories

    often waiting-

waiting, waiting, waiting for housing; waiting for orders; waiting for deployment; waiting for reunion; waiting for phone calls; waiting for the new curtains to arrive; waiting for him to come home for dinner---AGAIN!

They call her “military dependent”, but she knows better

    she can balance a checkbook

    handle the yard work

    fix a noisy toilet.

She is intimately familiar with the drywall, anchors, and toggle bolts.

She can file taxes, sell a house, buy a car, or set up a move,----all with ONE Power of Attorney.

She welcomes neighbors that don’t welcome her.

Reinvents her career with every PCS; locates a house in the desert, the arctic, or the deep south and learns to call them all “home”.

    She MAKES them all home.

    She is fiercely IN-dependent

    Military Wives are somewhat hasty

They leap into decorating, leadership, volunteering, career alternatives, churches and friendships.

They don’t have 15 years to get to know people.

Their roots are short but flexible.

They plant annuals for themselves and perennials for those who come after them.

Military Wives quickly learn to value each other.

They connect over coffee, rely on the spouse-network and accept offers of friendship and favors and record addresses in pencil. Military Wives have a common bond.

The Military Wife has a husband unlike other husbands—his commitment is unique. He doesn’t have a job, he has a “mission” he can’t just decide to quit, he’s on-call for his country 24/7, but for you, he’s the most unreliable guy in town!

    His language is foreign

    TDY

    PCS

    OPR

    ACC

    BDU

And so, a Military Wife is a translator for her family and his.

She is the long-distance link to keep them informed – the glue that holds them together.

    Military Wife has her moments---

She wants to wring his neck, dye his uniform pink, and refuse to move so Siberia.

    But she pulls herself together.

Give her a few days, a travel brochure, a long hot bath, a pledge to the flag, and a wedding picture.

    And she goes.

    She packs.

    She moves.

    She follows.

    Why?

    What for?

    How come?

You may think it is because she has lost her mind.

But actually it is because she has lost her heart.

It was stolen from her by a man

    who puts duty first

    who longs to deploy

    who salutes the flag

and whose boots in the doorway remind her that as long as he is her military husband, she will remain his military wife.

    i hope you enjoy this!!

  14. Great pictures of your adorable kids! Sorry you are not feeling great... hope you are feeling better. There is definitely something going around in our neck of the woods and I hope we can all avoid it... the only ones who have gotten a flu shot so far are my husband and the baby.

That sausage rice looks fantastic and perfect for the approaching cold weather...

  16. Have you ever tried adding Emergen-C to your water? I actually blogged on the stuff yesterday. Might be worth getting a couple of the single packets and trying out.

    Love the scarf!

  17. What cute pictures. Oh I have seen that dinosaur, and we also saw it set up in the store. How on earth can it cost that much? Doesn't help that I have a 3yr old son obsessed with dinosaurs. I would love to block toy commercials to. Your slow cooker recipe sounds so good & yummy to.
