Ok who watched it last night? Who screamed for joy and clutched onto that remote control so no one could change the channel?
One of my favorite favorite favorite movies EVER, is The Sound of Music.
Last night while channel surfing I came across the movie on and though I had missed the first 5 minutes, that was just fine for me. There is something absolutely magical about this movie, and that is saying a lot because I admit, I'm NOT into musicals, like.AT.ALL. Nuh uh, they just don't do it for me...but this one is different. It's also my grandmother Jacinta's favorite movie, so I thought of her immediately when I saw it on the screen.
I can't believe I don't have this movie on DVD yet, I really need to get it
I don't think there is a single song in that movie that I don't like, they all make me smile. What about you, any other Sound of Music fans out there? Anyone watch it yesterday? What were your favorite parts?
...the first three notes just happen to be, Do-Re-Mi.
Do-Re-Mi-Fa-So-La-Ti, oh let's see if I can make it easier
Doe, a deer, a female deer, Ray, a drop of golden sun
Me, a name I call myself, Far, a long, long way to run
Sew, a needle pulling thread, La, a note to follow So
Tea, a drink with jam and bread, that will bring us back to Do

Nicholas watched a bit of it with me and he absolutely loved the Lonely Goatherd, he thought it was funny.
Anyway, I was so thrilled to see the movie on TV, now THAT is a good family holiday show.
I agree, it is a great family holiday movie! The Sound of Music is one of my favorites too - I cry at the wedding scene every time, the music is so beautiful. I can't believe that I went to see it at the theater when it first came out in 1965 - ugh, I am THAT old!!! My daughter loves The Sound of Music, too and my nephews were singing "My Favorite Things" all through the Christmas holiday as the older one had performed the song with his preschool class and the younger one picked up on it too. I think we'll be watching it at our house as soon as we get back home.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year,
Pamela
Me too! It is shown here every Christmas, and yes, we have the DVD too! I remember when it first came out, and that was the year we went on our grand tour of Europe and saw most of the places in the movie too. Sigh. The memories!
ReplyDeleteI love it, but my hubby rebels against it. He says his sisters made him watch it every year and he can't see it anymore!
ReplyDeleteGirl, you are too funny! I cant stomach it myself...but glad you like it, lol. Merry Late Christmas & happy new year!

ReplyDeleteThat was my thought... If you love it so much, how come you don't yet own it? But soon, you will. We all need little jogs to our memory, I guess. Even you 'youngin's.' :-)
Did you ever see 'A Child's Christmas In Wales'? I so love that film. It's one of my especially favorite Christmas time ones. I tried to get it, for so long. And was so happy when I found it on dvd. Precious!

My family is out of town until Wed so I'm planning a slow deep clean of the house, and some wonderful sappy movies-might just have to add this to my list:)
ReplyDeleteOne of my all time faves ever! From way back when I was a kid and saw it in the theatre. We watched the DVD about a week before Christmas but when visiting my mom last night we watched it again.
ReplyDeleteHard to pick a favorite part. When I was a kid I knew the words to every song and "You are 16, going on 17" was a fave in the movie. I thought it was so cool how they danced around the gazebo stepping up onto the benches. |Very romantic to a preteen. LOL. All the songs, I love it all!
Oh gosh...I haven't seen that in forever and I just realized my daughter has NEVER seen it! I'm putting it on my list for Netflix! Thanks for reminding me of what we've missed!

The whole marionette Lonely Goatherd always makes me laugh, and I am continually astonished at Julie Andrews range of voice. Also one of my favorite songs is Climb Every Mountain; that lady had a beautiful voice too and I feel tears when she reaches the end of that song and the word "dream" echos away.
ReplyDeleteOh, so wish that I could sing!!!
This is my baby girls favorite movie. She can sing her way through. I love musicals and think life would be a lot better if we broke out into singing more often.

Hi Sandra- fun!! We just took part in a production of the Sound of Music- my son, Sammy played Kurt, I played Sister Margaretta and my sweet husband was Admiral Von Schrieber. We had a wonderful time- and it is an amazing movie- and musical!!

It is the Best Family Movie out there!!! I was pretty happy to see it as well however we were at a neighbors for a get together, so I missed most of it.
ReplyDeleteOH! I saw this on too!!!! But I started to watch the beginning as well....when her and the kids first start singing and getting to know each other and she makes them play clothes (I LOVE that she made them those clothes out of drapes...is that weird..i seriously love that about the movie!). But, I was sick and fell asleep not too far after that!!! LOL
ReplyDeleteI get so angry though when Rolf turns on them though towards the end....it about breaks my heart for poor Leisel...ya know?
Anyway...I am with you on this...LOVE it! :)
Me too, I'm crazy for this movie.

Yes, yes, yes! I love this movie too.
ReplyDeleteI like the part where the kids sing Auf wiedersehen, Good Night!
I LOVE this movie, one of my all time favorites! I have it on dvd so I should watch it soon!
ReplyDeleteI also love this movie it is one of my favorites. My favorite song is Edelweiss.
ReplyDeleteI remember this was a popular movie at the missions in Papua New Guinea. Being a lad, I probably would never seen such a (obviously girly?) movie, but my parents insisted. I'm glad we did, its sentiments endure in a modern world. I listen to the sound track last night. Its amazing actors sang so well!
