Happy Homemaker Monday!

hhm

The weather in my neck of the woods:
It's starting to cool down, we're not seeing the triple digit temps anymore and I'm happy about that. Now if I was just back in Idaho where I could enjoy the fall weather, I would be even happier LOL

One of my simple pleasures:
Warm out of the oven bread slathered in homemade butter. *drool*

On my bedside table:
A few more books for reviewing.

On my TV:
Little House on the Prairie Season 6
New Merlin Season 2

On the menu for tonight:
Ervilhas com Ovos. Portuguese pea stew with eggs and bacon etc. It may sound kinda weird but it's actually very good, I'll have the recipe up on the food blog tonight.

On my To Do List:
Finish off the laundry, fold and put away
Mop and Sweep
Make doctor appointment for my annual girly appointment *lol*

New Recipe I tried last week:
None

In the craft basket:
It's all about Little House on the Prairie Crafts, we're making Corn Husk Dolls.

Looking forward to:
A little road trip to Flagstaff in a month or two.

Homemaking Tip for this week:
Fold and put away the laundry as you wash it. It saves so much time instead of washing 3 or 4 loads and then having to fold everything and put away.

Favorite Blog Post of the week (mine or other):
I'm leaving this one blank, I didn't get around to any blog reading.

Favorite photo from last week:

New book I'm reading for a review, I LOVE Cindy Woodsmall and am really enjoying this one.

Lesson learned the past few days:
That husbands will always do what they want to no matter what, but eventually they do listen. On thursday during mandatory PT at work, Curt hurt his right shoulder, he had been complaining of horrible pain since then and this morning I finally made him go to Urgent Care.
Good thing I did, he has a torn rotator cuff.

On my Prayer List:
My husband - With a torn rotator cuff he only has 75 to 80% recovery and it will take about a year to 18 months to completely heal. He has to see an Orthopedic Surgeon to determine if he needs surgery or just physical therapy. Please keep him in your prayers.

Devotionals, Scripture Reading, Key Verses:

Proverbs 15:1 - A harsh word stirs up anger...

NIV A gentle answer turns away wrath,
but a harsh word stirs up anger.

I miss the US this time of the year. I love the cool weather as it comes in but I don't like winter much.
Love the bible verse - so so true.
    Have a happy week.

  5. I pray your husband recovers quickly without surgery. The book looks like a great one. Hannah and I made corn husk dolls at the Laura Ingalls Wilder days this summer. We had so much fun as I'm sure you are as well.

  13. Sandra,

Definitely keeping your hubby in our prayers that he will heal as quickly as possible and surgery is avoided. Good thinking on your part to get him in to have it checked.

Can't wait for you to share with us your corn husk dolls.

    Love and Hugs ~ Kat

  15. Wanted to add my thoughts for your husband's shoulder injury. My mom recently had rotator cuff surgery - and it wasn't too invasive but the PT afterward took a while...I hope your husband can get by with just some physical therapy.

  16. Sandra, I had orthoscopic (sp?) surgery for a torn rotator cuff (left shoulder). First though, I went through the physical therapy to see if it would help,....nope. It was just wasted time, plus after the surgery when I still needed PT, the insurance didn't let me take all the therapy I wanted/needed, cause I'd used it up before the surgery. So check on that first. I HIGHLY recommend the surgery, it's fast, the only drawback is your arm is immobilized for about 6 weeks. After that the PT begins, and that only spells RECOVERY and getting your motion back!

Since my insurance wouldn't pay for what I felt were only like two more weeks of PT that I needed for a very short range of movement that I still had not attained, what I did is just continue with the exercises I had learned to do, and the PT techs showed me what I needed to do to work for the motion I wanted (I still couldn't scratch the back of my neck). So do not be fearful of the surgery, it's not overly invasive if it's orthospopic. I can't even see the scars anymore! They make like two or three little holes. But don't put it off too long. The sooner the better. So research it a bit, and pray about it before you decide.

  18. Love home baked bread with melty butter on it! YUM!!!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that your husband doesn't need surgery and all that is needed is some PT. That is all my husband needed and he is doing fine.
