Days pass by very quickly during the week because we're so busy, but boy are the weekends the pits for us when hubby is gone. LOL
Anyway, moving on to our Happy Homemaker Monday post for today :)
The weather:::
High of 100 degrees today. I suppose I should be thankful because 3 days ago we saw 116 degrees and I thought I was going to melt onto the cement in the patio. On my reading pile:::
Been reading a LOT. Let's see:
:: My Bible reading is going well, started Joshua yesterday and honestly it was like a breath of fresh air because I forced myself through the previous books, especially Numbers and Deuteronomy. Man alive, those are tough to read.
:: Finished A Man of his Word by Kathleen Fuller, great Amish fiction book and I really enjoyed it :)
:: Almost finished with Her Restless Heart by Barbara Cameron, another Amish fiction which I'm enjoying as well.
:: Started An Unmarked Grave which I have to review soon.
:: Today I also started The Fiddler by Beverly Lewis, her newest book.
On my TV:::
- Watching the fourth episode of "Starlings".
- Have to finish Part 2 of the "Hatfields & McCoys". Also have Part 3 on the DVR to watch.
- Eureka and whatever else is on tonight, I can't remember what my DVR is recording LOL Tomorrow my DVR is working overtime, there are so many shows on that I want to watch.
On the menu for this week:::
Another week of easy meals for us 3. Did the grocery shopping for the whole month and only spent $200 LOL If only it was always like that. Monday - Pumpkin Pancakes
Tuesday - Chicken Sandwiches, Veggies
Wednesday - Quesadillas, Tortilla chips
Thursday - Pigs in a blanket, salad
Friday - Homemade Pizza
Saturday - Chili Fries
Sunday - Ice Cream Sundaes
On my to do list:::
One load of laundry, I'm actually completely caught up on laundry and determined to keep it that way. Wash the truck, clean out the inside
Whisk Laundry detergent review for the blog
What I am sewing, crocheting, knitting or creating:::
Made a quick doily last night, had a few moments in front of the TV so wanted something super quick to play around with. Summer Fun:::
Did you know that Venus is going to be passing in front of the Sun this week, more specifically on Tuesday? Well if you get a chance, you might want to see if you can observe it for yourself, it's the last chance that many of us will ever have to see it again.
If you can't see it safely, remember that you can't stare straight into the sun, no telescopes or binoculars without the appropriate gear.....there will be a live camera on the Transit of Venus website that will be covering this event. What a great way to see with the kids AND learn something too :)
We have a telescope that actually has a Sun filter, so hubby left it all set up for me, all I have to do is pull it out Tuesday evening and enjoy it with the kids, will try to snap some pics too :)
Looking around the house:::
Super quiet right now, other than the water in the fish tank sloshing down from the filter. The children are asleep, I'm enjoying a hot cup of coffee with the quiet.I have my Bible and my devotionals next to me so that I can get some reading done here shortly.
House is clean, nothing to pick up, nothing to clear up, feels good to start the day this way :)
From the camera:::
Something fun to share:::
Well I don't really have anything specific, other than, let me see...........OH, I know.
While I was looking for a quick crochet project I came upon a page full of vintage crochet doilies, and OH my, there are some beautiful ones on there.
I have wanted to try my hand at making one of these for a very long time, but truth be told they intimidate me and I'm not used to crocheting with actual crochet thread, though I have quite a stash which my grandma sent me from South Africa. I think it's on my list of "MUST TRIES" :)
On my prayer list:::
My husband while he's gone. Us as we keep the home candles burning for him.
All of the military families out there who are currently separated, I pray for safety, I pray for quick reunions with loved ones.
Bible verse, Devotional:::
How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity!Psalm 133:1
Sandra, I just wanted to stop by and tell you that I enjoy your blog so much that I have started one of my own. Its not much but I am enjoying it. I am a young mother (23) of 2 boys, 1 and 2. I feel as if I was born in the wrong era though, I love to make things homemade, bread, blankets, bags, soap, and all sorts of things. Its very relaxing reading your posts and checking out all the stuff that you review, read, and blog about. You and your family are in my prayers. I am not a military wife, but I am a military daughter. I am the wife of a corrections officer who works 12 hour shifts so I have to learn to manage without him as well. Good luck to you and your family.
ReplyDeleteMy hubby is very soon to be gone for a few random weeks for ministry stuff. I love your menu plan this week and may nab it to use with my little girls and I while he's gone. I know you would gladly trade the cheaper bill for a hubby thats home, but, way to look on the bright side! :)
ReplyDeleteI really like the idea of ice cream sundaes on Sunday. No need to bother with heating up the kitchen with that meal!
ReplyDeleteThree cheers for caught up laundry! Love when that happens.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your day!
I always enjoy your posts - I'm the kinda gal that loves the details you give to us. I especially enjoy your menus. This week I am preparing for overnight guests who are vegetarian. Been scrathing my head and stretching my brain, but I think I've got it. Heading out to buy groceries this afternoon.
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting about Venus and the Sun. I'll have to show my son the online feed since he is very into outer space.
ReplyDeleteI'm praying for you and your family while your husband is away.
Your books sound really interesting. I have just started on a few of Beverley Lewis books from the library and they are so good! I will have to look at the other authors you have read. The Amish community is fascinating and I have made a few of there yummy cakes!!!!
ReplyDeleteDon't ya just love that DVR? Standing ovation to the guy who invented that thing! Mine goes overtime some days too.
