Feeling slightly frazzled

I'm feeling a tiny bit discombobulated, a little on the frazzled side.

There is just so much going on, so many decisions to make that will forever affect our future as a family and I'm honestly feeling overwhelmed and tired.

I often get the feeling that I just want to crawl into a corner and stay there until the decisions have all been made for me and I don't have to think about anything.

A lot of changes are coming, and this year I'm forcing myself to think of my needs and wants, which means doing things and making certain choices that may not be pleasing to others.

Truth be told, it's not the first time I've chosen to do things a certain way, only to cave in and not do it when others have made me feel that what I was doing was wrong, or an inconvenience to them.

I can't please everyone, and I've long stopped trying to.

My biggest need and want at the moment is to deactive my facebook account completely, and the reason I haven't yet done it is because I do play one game on there with my husband, so I've gone for the next best thing which is to just use it for the game and nothing more.  I haven't yet decided if I want to completely deactivate it or just leave it there, lingering, hanging in cyber space doing nothing.

My other biggest need in an attempt to gain some normalcy and control back in my life, is to look at my blogs like I did when I first started them, and that is just as an online journal for ME.  My place to jot down memories, to chat, to talk, to post whatever strikes my fancy.

I've tried to fit in with the crowds when it comes to the food blog and it's become very apparent to me that I'm just not into the "new blogging" concept.  I'm an old fashioned blogger.....I'm not into achieving the most comments, getting the most recipes pinned to pinterest, forcing myself to cook something new just to have something to show on the blog.

Not me, not happening.

Going back to basics.....that's what I'm doing.  I have been blogging since 2006 and never needed Facebook or Pinterest, and am not going to start now.

I've unpublished both Facebook pages for the blogs, and I have also removed the little sidebar gadgets that link you to those pages.

From now on, if you want to stay up to date with what I'm posting, I guess you'll just have to do it the old fashioned way.  :)  Either through Google Reader, or bookmarked etc.

I do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to any of my blog readers, but I have to for once do what is right for me, and right now with so much going on in my life, this is best.

Yes, I know all about Networked Blogs....yes I know I don't need to deactivate the pages, yes I know many things, but like I said, this is what I NEED to do.

I hope everyone understands.  I feel better already for having made the few small changes this morning. :)

Right....now off to catch up on some shows and do a little crochet before bed.

God Bless,

  1. Good for you! I have been a reader for a long time and I enjoy things the bits and pieces of your life, crafts and good things from your kitchen. Sometimes making changes and keeping up with the Jones family isn't the best. I say something is only worth your time if it brings you joy!

  3. Facebook can be such a blessing and a curse. It helps me keep up with friends and family back home (I live overseas). But it is also annoying when you HAVE to be friends with someone. For instance, I have to be friends with my inlaws. They are so judgmental! It does make me want to just deactivate my account.

  4. Good for you! I personally am like you in that I am struggling with whether to have the facebook account and twitter acounts connected to my blog. I don't feel it is necessary as my blog is an online journal for me. And I don't follow many blogs on facebook....I'd rather see their updates on my sidebar on my blog page when I log on than a million facebook updates. I hope this brings you some peace in terms of your blog, which is one of my favorites! :)

  6. I totally get it. Am an old fashioned blogger too. I don't like Facebook nearly as much as blogging, but it was a way to stay in touch with people, but for my news feed, at least, it has become a political battleground. Or a place to see cute posters. Pinterest drives me bananas. I will see something interesting on a blog, click on it, and be brought to pinterest where I have to click a couple more times before I get to the actual source. Cannot stand it. I hope you keep up with your blogging as you have always done it as yours are my favorites. You are inspiring, your photography is beautiful, and after reading every post from the beginning, I feel as if I know you. I wish you the best in all of the decisions you have to make and am excited to be taken along for the ride!

  8. I've never been on facebook, Sandra, and never desire to. Then there's the InstaGram thing now. I get alot of pressure to get with the new technology (the newest thing I call it), but for me, blogging is what I enjoy...doing it just the way I do and I do love Pinterest so for me, I pick and choose the parts I like. I think you're wise to do just as you feel led!

I do enjoy your blog! I pray you have wisdom in your decisions!

    Blessings,
    Tammy

  9. You made the right decision, and that's why I like your blog, it's full of integrity, and not just about posting whatever just to have something up every day. I do and will continue to read your blogs in my reader, and that's absolutely ok! It's what I did before FB, it was only nice to see you there, you're a familiar, friendly face. I know you were considering that for a long time, and you held on for us on FB, we can make the effort to follow you here, no worries, no stress, you have enough to worry about. You were faithful to us, and we'll keep being faithful to you, and if you need to relax on things a bit, then that's ok. Family comes first. Good for you for going with your heart.Bjs e Xi's Sandra from Vancouver

  12. You have to what is best for YOU, especially with so many life changes going on for you this year. Why stress yourself out with things you don't even like doing? I've been reading your blog long before Facebook was even a thing... Always look forward to your posts!!! Don't worry about other people: only you know what is best for you.

  13. I recently found your blog (not sure how now!) but just wanted to let you know I have never used Facebook for anything other than a platform to access other people's photographs and for my Pinterest account. I have never felt like I'm missing out by not being on Facebook. I've also been inundated with friends requests from work colleagues and I'm rather keen to keep my work and private life separate. I was just thinking today how quickly technology has changed and advanced over the last few years and I just don't think we are quite prepared for all that entails. I recently handed the reins of a weekly meme to someone else and it felt good not to have that responsibility anymore. Sometimes we have to put ourselves first. I'll be continuing to read your blog and see what you've been up to!

  14. I only use FB to keep up with family and friends who are far away. I just don't get the whole FB thing. Glad you are doing what you love and leaving the rest behind. GO YOU!!

  15. I find all the FB and Pinterest envy/race is just ANOTHER extension of Junior High crap that so many women can't let go of. Whatever.I blog to hear myself talk. LOL!!And I still find you the old fashioned way instead of those other ways. Enjoy finding your balance!

  17. You never have to apologize for setting things up the way that you want them. Truth be told, I miss the blogging of years ago. It's become such a "business". Good for you for doing what you feel is right for you!

  20. Stepping back from blogging and focusing on your life is something we all need to do from time to time. I started blogging ten (yes, TEN) years ago on a site that took off while I was still trying to find my blogging voice. Before long, my 'personal' journal turned into fodder for the world to read... and I spent 6 more years writing it and hating it.

Then I quit, which was the best, most liberating decision I'd made in years.

Of course, it wasn't long before I realized I enjoyed blogging, just not in that format. So I came back with a different blog (this one).

But your path may lead you elsewhere. Wherever it does lead, know that you're loved, that you're thought of, and that you have many, many friends who want that path to lead you to where you're happy.

  21. I'm glad you are listening to your heart and following it instead of spending another minute pleasing everyone but yourself. I daily aspire to do the same.

  22. I just started reading your blog regularly again. I used to read it a few years ago and then lost track of it. I was so glad to stumble upon it once again. I'm in agreement with you on everything you posted. I'm an old fashioned blogger, also. The Facebook stuff really doesn't interest me. I like Pinterest for classroom ideas and stuff since I'm a teacher. I miss the good ole days of blogging, too.

  24. I would be lost without you. You website is one the I frequent almost everyday. My husband just submitted his military retirement paperwork. I am a nervous wreck. I am following you on Google Reader. Thank you for everything you do. You are a very strong woman and your faith will help you through this.

  25. Some people use Facebook to keep track of everything they're interested in. I prefer to use it just to keep in touch with family and friends. Bloggy friends fit best in Google Reader. Do what works best for you. Thank you for sharing a part of your life with your readers.

  26. I totally get where you're coming from. I blog for me and tho I read all the blogs I like in google reader I only comment when I get the chance. I also blog for my family who live away and like to see what is happening with us. I've been blogging since 2007 and no longer considered a "new blogger". I love your blog and will continue to read it as your blog brightens my day totally.
