Home bound......

Well, it is official.....by the end of June we will be heading back home to Idaho!

It is bitter sweet in the sense that we are all so excited to be going home, but bummed out that my husband didn't make this promotion.  The testing this year was excruciatingly hard, the cut offs were crazy and from about 20 000 that tested, only around 3000 were promoted, so that just shows you how hard these promotions are to make.

Nonetheless, I'm so proud of my husband for the 22 years that he has given to his country.  He has worked so hard, given it his all, defended this country at war, protected it at home and did it all with a huge sense of pride and love.

It hasn't always been easy, military life is hard folks.

But, this chapter in our lives has come to an end and it's time to move on, and start another.

How am I feeling at this moment????

Hmmm.  Well, I'm excited beyond belief, I'm nervous, I'm scared, actually I'm terrified if truth be told, and we have a lot ahead of us starting with packing up this house, doing tons of paperwork, buying a house in Idaho, transferring homeschooling etc.

It's going to be one heck of a ride, I can tell you that.

And it's times like these that I'm so thankful for my blog, for an outlet to talk and vent and record every step of our journey.

Be prepared, in the next few weeks you will see all sorts of posts and pictures here, boxes and packing tape, excitement and worries, prospective homes, plans and lists etc.  At some points it may seem like you're along for a virtual move across States Hahaha

Anyway, I wanted to share the good news and I thank you all for the prayers and the words of encouragement, this waiting period was so hard for us, but at least now we know where we're going and what we're doing :)

We're going home.....home to Idaho and I can NOT wait to smell that fresh air.

PS  I am going to be visiting you all today, wanna catch up before things get even crazier for me around here :)

Well, too bad about the promotion...but maybe gov't cuts had something to do with it, I'm sure your husband still deserved it.

  12. We will be going through the same process for my mom, helping her sell her house and decide where to go next. Can I say that I am excited for you?! I cannot wait to go along for the ride and hope you share lots and lots of details along the way. We will all be rooting for you and praying for you at all of the times that you will need it.
Please thank your husband for me for his service to our country. I am very grateful for him and those like him. : )

  13. Dear Sandra ~ Your husband did his best, gave 22 years of his/your life and it must be for the best for your family that he did not make the promotion. You are starting a new adventure in your life, no more Dad/Husband having to go away. A real home to call your own, where you can still home school, and you are going to a beautiful area of the country.

All will work out. I look forward to following along with you all as you pack up, look for a home, move and settle into a house, turning it into your home, your haven.

    Love and hugs ~ FlowerLady

  14. We still have a long time until we hit retirement, but I'm still jealous you get to go back to the northwest...this desert is getting me down. And the summer hasn't even started yet.

Good luck with all the planning and moving! Looking forward to following your journey!

  15. Oh, heavens, congratulations. Congratulations, congratulations, congratulations! I can't stop with them, they just roll right off of the tongue (or fingers, as it were). I am so happy for you! Take a giant, healing, deep breath for me - I'm a mountain girl from Colorado, transplanted to Houston, and not a day goes by that doesn't include some sort of image of the likes you just posted. I will live vicariously through your posts!

  16. Congratulations Sandra and family. I have been reading your blog for years and it's the first one I check out each day. I feel like I know you all so well. Hope the packing, home buying and move go smoothly. It looks like a beautiful place to love (and not so much heat and dust). I know your husband did his best, but that's the military for you. Have fun on your new adventure. Hugs and best regards. Cheryl

  17. Hang in there, Sandra! It's not an easy adjustment. We did this three years ago and sometimes I wish we had stayed. My hubby was also at 22 years. It took him awhile to find a job. My advice is to buy well below or low in your range and make sure he has a job to go to at least actively looking. It took him at least 1 1/2 and I had to go back to work ;( Also make sure your old home is really where you want to plant roots. We found a lot had changed in our hometown/area.
    Best of luck to you!

  18. I do not know how hard it is to be a military spouse, as I have never been one, so this is what I have to say: THANK YOU to your husband for serving and THANK YOU to you for being a military spouse. I love veterans (and not just because there are many of them in my family, including my youngest brother who is currently enlisted). They rock. I do wish you the best of everything as you start a new phase of your life.

  19. I'm so excited for you Sandra! Applauding your hubby for even doing all that studying and prepping. That would have killed me. I was just trying to talk my hubby into going Cour d'Alene for holidays this year.

  21. I know that to stay or not to stay was a difficult decision for you. I am so glad that God gave you such a definate answer!

I am looking forward to following your journey home. I have never been to Idaho and will delight in experiencing it through your eyes!

  22. Welcome back to the PNW! Change is good, although challenging, and in the end it makes us all stronger. Excited to hear about the adventures ahead for you and your family!

  23. First please let your husband know how much my family appreciates him and all he does for our country! We have moved many times as well and I can relate to those feelings and uncertainties. I'm wishing you all the best and I truly feel everything happens for a reason, God brought you to this and he will bring you through it. Many blessings to you all

    Jill

  25. I am sorry he didn't make it. Retention rate has gotten low. They are having to get rid of people left and right because of budget constraints. Tell your hubby congrats on the 22 years, that is amazing and I am looking forward to "moving" with you via your blog.

    {hugs}
