{ Making a Home }

Kitchen window

One of the simplest joys in life.

I am slowly plodding along, trying to catch myself from overdoing it, and also telling myself over and over that things will get done, one way or another.

It's been tiring, but I have to be honest and admit that I am just loving every minute of making a new home.

Putting things in their new places, deciding what goes where, changing the functionality of some and just plain being a girl, having fun with redecorating and playing around.

One thing I have been doing is keeping a box or two around, and as I unpack I either keep or put into the box of things to sell or donate.

Let's be honest, we all tend to collect so much stuff over the years, and most of them we use, but there are quite a few that have no need to be around.  Who needs 5 crockpots?  I am keeping two, the others are being sold.

I have been blessed with wonderful reviews for my blog and they usually involve me acquiring a new gadget for the house, but sometimes it's things that I already have, and so, the thing I've decided to do is purge, purge, and purge again.

I'm determined to live a simpler, less cluttered life and it all starts with taking a long hard look at the things we already have, and determining what we need to live with and what can be sold or given away.

Ok but back to the fun stuff of the moving process, the setting up of the home.

Lining drawers

What hubby and I have been doing the past week, is to have me stay at the new house, while he runs back and forth to load the truck and unload more boxes for me to unpack.  It works for us and this way we are getting more done.

One of the things I did this afternoon was to line my drawers with some pretty paper.

Shelf

This cabinet is right above my sink.  I have never had a cabinet of this size above any of my sinks, so this was so exciting for me, like a kid in a candy shop, truly.

It now houses some of my cookbooks, some dishes, scales etc.  I'm not sure if I'll keep it exactly like this or change it up, for now though, that's how it will stay.

Pantry

The pantry....oh the pantry.  It's a work in progress and it's coming along nicely.  I am printing out tags today and will attach them to each basket with some twine.  But I'll show you that once it's all done.

Living room

The living room is a jumbled mess of boxes and random things here and there. One thing that makes me smile each time I walk through the area though, is my chair in the corner by the wood stove. My husband just set it there to get it out of the way, but I don't know, I am totally digging it in that little corner and may just leave it there for now.

I unpacked a little more, got some of my yarn all organized on it's shelf in the bedroom, will show you that another day. Got a lot of the master bedroom closet things put away, a little of the kid's rooms done and even put up my guest bathroom decor.

It's slowly becoming a home, and one which I can not wait to move permanently into.

Roses

Tomorrow I'll be back over there for some more unpacking and organizing.

By the time we made it home today, well, back to this house we're living in at the moment, it was already almost 5pm and I had to get dinner started.

I always open the deck door for the pugs while I'm busy with dinner, and they just go on out and lay in the sun. Here's Miss Lola enjoying the warmth.

Relaxing pug

Tonight we have Tae Kwon Do and we always go to my brother's house for some coffee while the kids are busy, but while I wait for Jasmine to get ready and for it to be time to leave, I'm going to sit on the couch, right here and work on my new crochet blanket.

Stopping for a moment

See the yarn in that plastic bag???  I take it with me everywhere I go, it's also going to be the last thing to leave this house, I just don't think I can survive without my crochet.

The blanket ss working up really fast and I'm so in love with the colors. Ahhhhh the perfect way to unwind after a crazy busy day.

I'll see you all tomorrow for another update as I get closer to moving here in a few days :)
