Good morning from Texas!
Hello my friends, I know it's been a while but so much has happened that I haven't had a chance to come in and update you.
I don't have Internet at the new house yet, not until next week so I'm actually posting this on my phone, which is quite the effort considering the small screen.
Anyway, I am now safely in Texas, in our new home which I love. There is a lot to do, there are wall colors that I really don't like, and curtains that I find absolutely yucky and not me at all, but it's something we can change and I'll enjoy doing it.
I will take some photos today to try and show you what the house looks like now and then as I paint, change out curtains and remove some gross looking wallpaper, I'll show you the progress.
This road trip down from Idaho was NOT without incident. First day on the road we traveled for 13 hours, everything went fine. Sunday we traveled for 2 hours and my car broke down 12 miles south of Lamar, Colorado.
We blew a cylinder which is not a good thing because the engine completely shut down. Since it was Sunday and a holiday weekend, we couldn't rent a car to finish the drive because every place was closed. We lucked out in finding someone who had one last Uhaul truck for rent. Unfortunately it was a 26 foot truck and we couldn't attach a car trailer because my car is rear wheel drive.
Know what that means right? My car was towed back to Lamar and had to stay behind until hubby and I can make the 6 hour trip back up there to retrieve it. Oh goodness!
Thankfully we had the money available for the trip, but the towing and the uhaul rental ended up costing us close to $1000. *sigh*
Anyway, we are home now, strapped for cash but safe and sound and everything will work itself out.
We've also had to deal with severe thunderstorms and a couple tornado watches, which I thought would terrify this girl having never lived in an area afflicted by them, but it hasn't worried me or scared me like I thought it would. We do have a storm cellar in our home which is wonderful.
Our moving truck doesn't arrive until the 1st of June and I can tell you that I'm slowly dying here waiting for my stuff. I am so ready to make this house my own and put my things in. Guess I just have to wait a little longer
That's pretty much what has been going on, I'm sure I'm missing something but I'll remember it and let you all know next time I update which should be tomorrow, I think.
Anyway, I have the gas company coming this morning, we've had cold showers since Sunday night and it is not something I am enjoying, though to be truthful, I'm thankful that it is summer and not winter.
Wishing you all a blessed Wednesday, I truly do miss chatting and catching up with everyone.
Dear Sandra ~ I just posted a comment on your last post because I thought about you this morning and here is a post letting us know you arrived. Sorry you ended up having vehicle problems, but at least you made it to your husband and new home.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to seeing all the before pics and the progress reports, and the final bits of making this house your home.
It looks like you have a nice bit of land.
Love, hugs and prayers ~ FlowerLady
Dear Sandra,
ReplyDeleteI have for sure been thinking about you as you made this big move. Glad to hear you are safe and sound. The car is just a "thing".
Can't wait for you to settle in and post regularly. I would love to see the before and after photos as you work your magic!

Glad to hear that you made it to Texas safely. Hope you enjoy your new home. Get used to the storms and tornadoes - they are a big part of Texas life. I love the cloud picture. Hope you get settled in quickly and easily and love living there. Best of luck with your car as well. Good to hear from you today. School is out now so I am hoping to be able to join in on Happy Homemaker Mondays again. Have a good week.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you made it! You are such a talented photographer. I cannot wait to see what you do with the new house!
ReplyDeleteBeen thinking of and praying for you. We made a move also but not that far. Still in a lot of pain, not feeling well, and not even finished unpacking. Love and huggles and blessings.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you are settling in well. Prayers for you and your family.
ReplyDeleteSo glad to see your post sent you emails checking to see if you made it, blessings you're safe, sad for the car breakdown, but everyone is together.......I can not wait to see what you do with your Country Home :). My son is at shepherd Air Force Baseat NCO Academy, he drove from Nebraska almost 2 weeks ago, said it was horrible weather mainly through Oklahoma, he said it has done nothing but rain in Texas......hope you're not experiencing all of that.... How did the fur babies do on your travels?...
ReplyDeleteKids are probably happy to be back with dad too.....
Enjoy your new home glad you guys made it.....
Blessings

Glad to hear if you made it safely, even with car troubles. Hope you enjoy Texas. I hear it's great living there. Can't wait until you are back online and blogging regularly again ... but I totally understand. Moving into a new house is busy work. Good luck in this new adventure.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that you have had some trials in your travels, but I am so glad to know that you have arrived safely. I have been thinking about you and wondering if you got there alright and how your move was going, so it is good to hear from you. I hope that your things arrive soon and you can start to enjoy setting up your new home. I hope too that you will really enjoy all that Texas has to bring to you! xx
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are this far and you arrived safely in Texas. Praying everything falls in line and you can settle in very soon.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you made it home! Tornadoes are the norm down south, as well as earthquakes. I look forward to hearing about your new life and seeing the pics of the house.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to you!
You win some, you lose some. It’s great that you found a U-Haul truck for rent, though it did end up eating into your cash reserves. And that car problem didn’t help matters. Still, you managed to arrive safe in the end, so it wasn’t all bad. Anyway, have fun in Texas!

ReplyDeleteGlad you made it safely, even with the difficulties. It looks like a beautiful spot!
ReplyDeleteWelcome to Texas!!!!!! Glad you made it here safely, but sorry you're in the midst of all the rain and storms we've been having. Just enjoy it, because once those summer temps kick in..the heat is on.
ReplyDeleteOh I was so happy to see your blog updated. I've seen one report after another about the flooding in Texas & Oklahoma and have been praying for you all (and all those impacted by the floods)! I'm sorry for the hardships that occured on your drive down, but am relieved they were surmountable problems. God bless you all, Sandra.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you're there safe and sound. Will send prayers about the severe weather and hope that getting your car back and the delivery of your items will all go smoothly. I'm so excited for you in a new chapter and seeing the new home! ;) I know you'll make it cozy and yours in no time talented Lady. xoxo
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that you've arrived, in spite of the nasty weather and car problems...You are about 2 weeks ahead of me. We'll soon be leaving Louisiana and heading to the Oklahoma City Area. I've made arrangements for a storm shelter but it will be a month before it can be installed... I'll also be working on house projects going forward. Must rid the house of some AWFUL wallpaper and such, but I think I'm going to love living in the house.
ReplyDeleteI was so thrilled to come on your blog and see your post! Thankful you made it safely and hoping you get your car back soon. It looks so peaceful in your photos, enjoy your new home! Looking forward to seeing you make it yours.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you are there safe and sound in spite of the vehicle breakdown. I am excited to hear all about your new home and see pictures as you put your own little stamp on everything.
ReplyDeleteGlad you have a storm cellar. You're one up on us. Welcome to the Midwest 😎 🌈
ReplyDeleteGlad you have arrived safely! Sorry to hear of your car troubles on the way. Can't wait to see your pictures and what you do with your new home. It has been an unusually extra stormy spring in the Midwest. Glad you have the storm cellar.

ReplyDeleteBummer about your car. It will all work out; it always does. :) I am so happy that your family is back together!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see all the pictures! I know you'll make this a great place VERY quickly!
ReplyDeleteIt has rained and stormed so much this spring. Usually we are all complaining about a drought but not yet this year anyway. It's kind of put a damper on our summer break so far. Hopefully the weather can get it's act together soon.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see what you do to your home when the moving truck arrives. I know you will make that house into a warm family home.
I often check for your blog posts since I really enjoy them esp the Homemaker Monday posts.. I know with the move it must be a very busy time for you, but with the recent storms I just wanted to say that I hope you all are doing well and safe were not affected by any of the storms and flooding.
ReplyDeleteHi Sandra.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your new home! Glad to hear you made a safe journey!
Beijinhos.

I can't wait to hear more from you! Welcome to the great state of Texas! Having a storm shelter will ease the scare of tornadoes. How far a drive is it from you to the Dallas area?
ReplyDeleteI've lived in "Tornado Ally" all my life, and honestly the unsettled feeling doesn't go away. It can be unnerving! Glad ya'll made it safely to your new home. :)
ReplyDeleteI know you're super busy, Sandra, but I hope you know your readers miss you and are thinking of you & your family. Hope all is well.
ReplyDeleteMoving is TOUGH even if you've been through it as many times as you have. Setting up a new home in an unknown place is a huge challenge what with setting up the electric and phone lines and internet...etc., etc. and many more exasperating etceteras! But I know that once you get your home space in order you'll be feeling much better!! Just wanted you to know that I miss your posts, but will wait patiently until we hear from you!! May all be well.
ReplyDeleteMissing your updates and regular posts. Hope you are settling in and making your new home special.
ReplyDeleteso glad you made it. I am still unsettled when it comes to storms & now flooding rains. Please pray for us this weekend as we are headed into Arkansas with a chance if flooding rains. I am a bundle of nerves. We cannot cancel the trip as $$$ has been paid and have been trying to take it for a few years now.
ReplyDeleteLast time we planned it was when Curtis came here and we cancelled it to see him.
