• Paperback: 384 pages• Publisher: William Morrow Paperbacks (July 25, 2017)
A perfect debut novel is like a perfect dress—it’s a “must have” and when you “try it on” it fits perfectly. In this richly patterned story of sisterhood, ambition, and reinvention Sofia Grant has created a story just right for fans of Vintage and The Dress Shop of Dreams.
World War II has ended and American women are shedding their old clothes for the gorgeous new styles. Voluminous layers of taffeta and tulle, wasp waists, and beautiful color—all so welcome after years of sensible styles and strict rationing.
Jeanne Brink and her sister Peggy both had to weather every tragedy the war had to offer—Peggy now a widowed mother, Jeanne without the fiancĂ© she’d counted on, both living with Peggy’s mother-in-law in a grim mill town. But despite their grey pasts they long for a bright future—Jeanne by creating stunning dresses for her clients with the help of her sister Peggy’s brilliant sketches.
Together, they combine forces to create amazing fashions and a more prosperous life than they’d ever dreamed of before the war. But sisterly love can sometimes turn into sibling jealousy. Always playing second fiddle to her sister, Peggy yearns to make her own mark. But as they soon discover, the future is never without its surprises, ones that have the potential to make—or break—their dreams.

My Thoughts:
Historical fiction, World War II, and life after the war.
Right there are 3 things that I love and rank high when I'm looking for a good book to read. I've always been very interested and fascinated by World War, and though a lot of books center on that subject alone, not many go beyond that and really show us what life was like for America AFTER the war.
The story takes part in a mill town and is about 3 women, the two sisters and the mother in law.
I will say that the beginning chapters didn't quite captivate me as much as I thought it would, it took a bit for me to stick with it and not get bored. There wasn't much going on really, I think it was more about setting it all and introducing us to the characters and what they were all about.
But once you really start getting into the nitty gritty of their lives after the War, it becomes a book that is intriguing and interesting and quite good.
Women didn't think that when their significant others went to war, they would never see them again. There was always the possibility but no one really goes into it thinking that it will happen to them.
As the realization of that fact comes to light, post war women must fend for themselves and create a life in the workforce using whatever skill God has provided. And while the sisters start working off together well, it soon becomes a tension filled atmosphere, with jealousy rearing it's ugly head.
Overall I enjoyed the book, just found it difficult to get into at first.
Thanks for being a part of the tour!
