{ Fort Worth Stockyards - Day Trip }
We have lived in Texas for the past 3 years, and had yet to make it to the Fort Worth Stockyards.
When my stepmother was visiting, she asked if we could take her to see the Stockyards, and we thought it was the perfect opportunity for us to finally make it down to Fort Worth.
It was a short day trip, actually more like a few hours trip, but it was so interesting and fun that we plan on returning with the kids, sometime in the next few weeks.
Cowboy Hall of Fame
Our first stop was actually at the Cowboy Hall of Fame, and wow was it interesting to see. The museum is dedicated to "individuals who have shown excellence in competition, business and support of rodeo and the western lifestyle in Texas".
And then moved on to the next museum, right next door, which was the Military Museum.
The Military Museum of Fort Worth
The museum has been in operation for 8 years and has so many interesting items and stories. We spent a good amount of time in there just looking around, reading the history and looking through everything it had to offer.
My stepmom did a little bit of shopping for a few items to take back to South Africa. If you love shopping this place is a paradise, there are so many different souvenir stores, a whole building with just memorabilia, t-shirts, paintings, you name it.
Fort Worth Stockyards
After the shopping, we headed out into the actual Fort Worth Stockyards area, and boy was I in for a treat.
We popped into the White Elephant Saloon for an ice cold beer and some live music. We weren't there for long, maybe 30 minutes or so, but it was SO incredibly hot outside that it felt good to get into the shade and out of that scorching sun.
And ended the day watching the Cattle Drive that happens twice a day at the Stockyards.
If you've been one of readers for a while, you know that I love everything old fashioned, pioneer, old west and history in general, so this was not only a treat for my stepmother but for myself as well.
If you are ever in town, I highly recommend visiting the Fort Worth Stockyards with your family, there is so much to see and do.
Hope you enjoyed this little peek into our day trip. I used to always share our trips, outings and anything that we did for fun, and I haven't in a very long time, but I'm hoping to get back into the habit of doing that.
Last Friday we took my Stepmom and kids to the Museum of the Great Plains, and that was a huge hit for all of us. We didn't even finish seeing everything because we arrived late and didn't realize the museum was closing about an hour after we got there. We are most definitely planning a trip back as well, as the kids, especially Nick wants to return and really loved everything about it.
I did take some pics on my phone, but I'm going to wait until we go back so that I can take proper pictures with my good camera and share that with you as well :)
We made a family trip to Texas several years ago, and the children still remember a few things - the stockyards being their favorite!!!
