{ She's Lactose Intolerant - Blogtober 2018 }
Hi everyone :)
Feels like a few days since I did an actual proper chatty post, of course I've had the Happy Homemaker Monday, book reviews etc., but haven't really talked to you.
Folks, the weather had changed here, the temperatures have dropped dramatically and we have had to turn on our little heaters, not the house heater but the small ones, just to take off the edge.
Mornings have started out with condensation on windows, and beautiful dew drops on the grass.
I usually buy two loaves of bread when I go grocery shopping, and then when we run out I make homemade bread. My family actually prefers my homemade bread so I try to make at least two loaves a week because between the sandwiches the kids eat, my toast for breakfast and then sandwiches for Curt's lunch, we go through quite a lot of bread.
I admit, I prefer homemade bread to the store bought as well, I find I can make it for much cheaper and it's tastier too.
My favorite loaf pans to use are, either my Temp-Tations which is that pretty red one above, or my long loaf pan. I found it at an antique store and I want so much to get some more because they make the best loaves.
So yummy!
I just had to share this little guy, he was on my fence for the longest time. Just standing there, looking around during a rain reprieve.
I have a few recipes ready to go up on the blog, just haven't had a chance yet. The past few days have been quite busy for me.
I don't think I mentioned it here, but I've been taking Jasmine back and forth to the doctor for some tests. For a while now I've suspected that she had a food intolerance of some kind. Every once in a while, when she eats certain things, she gets bad stomach cramps and doesn't feel very well.
After being to the doctor and needing to keep a food diary for a month, we returned this morning, and the doctor said that she definitely has a Lactose Intolerance, especially when it comes to yellow cheeses so American, Cheddar etc., and milk and cream.
She has told her to try some Lactaid before eating anything that is dairy heavy and it should help, but we also need to make a few small changes to her diet.
I'm going to be switching her to some Lactaid milk, and then it's small adjustments like having Mozzarella or Provolone cheeses instead of cheddar and american.
I am just so happy and thankful that we finally know what is the issue so she can start feeling better, it's sad to see her in pain when she eats.
If any of you are Lactose Intolerant and have some great products to try out, or tips or advice for us, please leave them down below.
That's basically what I've been up to the past few days. I'm going to settle down now with a book and call it a night, it's been a busy day of driving back and forth between the hospital and home and such.
Have a wonderful Wednesday night :)
My husband is lactose intolerant and I have substituted almond milk for him for years. It is much cheaper than the Lactaid milk and it comes in plain or vanilla or chocolate. I use the plain unsweetened for most things for him, but he loves the chocolate as a beverage treat! He doesn't use the Lactaid pills but I know a lot of people who do and love them. ~Mrs. J~
ReplyDeleteAnother vote for almond milk. We use the plain unsweetened as well. Works great on cereal, froths for lattes, great in smoothies. Coffee shops now offer it as well as soy milk and there are ice cream brands that are non-dairy. It's an adjustment but so worth it not to have those awful stomach cramps.
