I'm finally getting to sit down in front of the computer to compile this post. I wanted to do it earlier but found myself puttering around the house, organizing and cleaning, baking and crafting.
It's been a quiet day, a day pretty much to myself where the kids are at school and Curt is either asleep or at work, so I'm left to my own devises, which lately have been shifted towards creating a simple, cozy home.
Well, and reading, and watching movies. You know of my fascination with Jane Austen, England and the Medieval, Elizabethan and Victorian Eras. I find myself researching and reading and soaking up all I can on these subjects and sometimes I sit back and think "well if only I had this same yearning for learning when I was in school, things would have been a lot different".
If I told you I've watched the new Emma version twice already, would you believe me? Because I just keep watching and re-watching and never getting tired of it, and when I'm not immersed in the visual sense of the movie, I'm listening to the Soundtrack which is by far, one of my favorites, it's calming and relaxing and perfect for working in the kitchen.
Oh and even better, Jasmine came home from school yesterday and handed me a library book she picked for me to read, low and behold....Jane Austen "Emma". I giggled and asked how she knew, and her simple innocent answer just made me smile "mom, I think everyone knows you love Jane Austen". I guess they really do.
But moving on, I also put up my new Mary Engelbreit 2010 Calendar which is chock full of adorable pictures and sayings.
Other than that, there's fresh homemade bread, laundry that has been washed, ironed, folded and put away, bathrooms that have been cleaned and floors that have been swept and mopped.
I'm tired but I'm content and now I'm going to sit down to a wonderful supper of Crab Cakes, Tomato and Spinach rice and homemade bread slathered with butter. Mmmmm Mmmmm Mmmm Life is good!
Sounds like a perfect day. I have the day off tomorrow and other than a quick trip to the store, I'm hoping to do some puttering myself!
ReplyDeleteI too wish that I had more of a yearning for learning when I was in school. As I grew older it kicked in and sometimes I'm in overdrive trying to consume new things I learn.
ReplyDeleteThose crab cakes look really good and I've not ever heard of tomato and spinach rice but I think I would like it.
It's neat that Jasmine is developing the same love's that you have (reading and Jane Austen). I chuckled over her comment about everyone knowing you love Jane Austen, so true.
ReplyDeleteCrab cakes sound yummy, is there a recipe on your food blog for them?
I LOVE days like these. They are my favorite times. I had one of those last weekend while the kids were gone, hubby was working. AHH life is good!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week. Blessings.
LOL, Jasmine has you totally pegged, doesn't she? And how sweet that she brought you that book knowing you'd love it.
ReplyDeleteSounds good to me!!!
ReplyDeleteEmma is my least favourite Jane Austen book, she drives me mad with her meddling, lol!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good day. xxx
Your day sounds wonderful and those crab cakes look delicious! I haven't watched Emma yet but I plan to. Have a wonderful Thursday!
ReplyDeleteSandra,
ReplyDeleteYour entire post is filled with warmth and love. I can only imagine just how wonderful it feels when your family comes home and enjoys all you've done to make their home a little brighter.
