{ Redecorating Sunday }
When we were stationed in Arizona, I think I redecorated or just moved things around, on a constant basis. My husband would come home from work, walk in the door and go "ohhhh, you moved everything around again". Hahah
Since moving to this house, almost 2 years ago, I haven't really decorated. I feel like a lot of the rooms, I just put things in and as long as it was livable, I was fine.
But then as I finally clicked out of this haze I've been living under, I started looking around and realizing that I really didn't like how any of it looked, and so I've started making changes.
I woke up this morning and looked around the living room and just couldn't handle it the way it was. So I got up and immediately got to work. I heard my husband chuckle from the office when he realized what I was doing. I guess he had memories of how it used to be.
There's always that moment, when your room is turned upside down and you think "oh Lord, what the heck am I doing?" hahah
It wasn't easy, the recliner couches are extremely heavy and bulky and weird to move around, especially on carpeted floor, but by golly I was going to get it done.
Pretty soon it started coming together and I started feeling this overwhelming sense of accomplishment and joy. Yes it was looking like I wanted it to, it was looking like an actual living room.
It's always surprising how by just moving one piece of furniture or item from one room to another, it completely changes how everything looks.
I decided to switch the couches between the den and the living room. I knew where I wanted my TV to go and that is where I wanted it to stay, but the bulky couches were not working in this room. There isn't a lot of wall space, there's big windows and big french doors and archways etc.
I pushed, and pulled and moved and moved. I knew that if it didn't work I would just push everything back to how it was, even though I really really didn't want to have to do that.
And it finally looked like I envisioned. Cozy and warm and homey. I am so thrilled with the outcome, I already loved sitting in this living room but now I enjoy it even more.
I don't think the couches match the curtains that I have up, but I'm planning on buying some slipcovers or actually new curtains, within the next few months.
The other recliners are now part of the den and I love how they look in there, they go perfectly well with the paneled walls and the cabin kind of feel in that room.
I added in some of my crochet pillows just to give it a bit of color and break up all the browns.
I've always said I am not a huge fan of paneled walls, but I'm slowly learning to love the den. My vision for it is a cabin in the woods kinda look, so I'm hoping that this year I can slowly pull it together, for now though it will do :)
You don't need to spend money, or buy all new furniture or live with exactly the way you first set up a room. The fun part of having a home is to make it your own, and sometimes just flipping a room around can make it seem like a totally new house.
Marley is in heaven with the new living room. He loves that he can finally lay down by one of us while we watch TV, which is something he couldn't really do before, not now that he is getting so big.
There was no room in the recliners, he would lay between my legs but pretty soon he would move because he got too hot or felt cramped up.
I'm really loving the new layout.
Anyway, I thought I would show you all what I did this weekend, I can't believe it's actually Sunday already, time just goes too fast.
I am going to go toss laundry from the washer to the dryer, but aside from that I don't have much else going on, so I think I'll make a cup of my chai tea and watch a movie or do a little bit of reading.
Are you all having a good weekend?

ReplyDeleteThe bicycle pillow I got at Walmart for like 4 dollars. It really is adorable isn't it? :) And absolutely, just moving things from one room to the next makes a world of difference.
