Hardcover: 320 Pages
Publisher: Inkyard Press; Original edition (February 12, 2019)

Agatha DeLacey’s family isn’t rich or titled, so studying nursing at Ingold’s East End hospital in London is a rare opportunity for her. Despite the school’s focus on the innovative Bio-Mechanical program, Aggie cares more about the desperately poor human patients who flood the hospital, even if that means providing unauthorized treatment after-hours…and trusting a charming, endlessly resourceful thief.

But the Artful Dodger is barely a step ahead of his underworld rivals, the menacing Bill Sykes and mercurial Oliver Twist, and Aggie’s association with him soon leads her into danger. When a brutal attack leaves her blind, she and the Dodger find themselves at the mercy of an experimental Bio-Mech surgery. Though the procedure restores Aggie’s sight, her new eyes come at an unnerving cost, and the changes in Dodger are even more alarming—instead of seeing Aggie as the girl he fancies, he now views her as a potential threat.

As war between England and Germany brews on the horizon and a sinister medical conspiracy threatens to shatter the uneasy peace in Europe, Aggie and the Dodger must find a way to work together so they can protect their friends and expose the truth…even if it means risking their own survival.

My Thoughts:

Right, so let me tell you first and foremost that this is a Young Adult Fiction.  I don't know if will mean anything to you, but I do know that some adults prefer not to read YA fiction.

I on the other hand am a huge book lover, and I do quite enjoy some younger reads.

I was lucky to have been given the first book in this series as well, so I was able to read that one first and then this second one.

What a fun read they were, I enjoyed them so very much, oh my word.

Did you know that Alisa Kwitney used to be an editor at DC Comics?  I think that in some way influenced her writing and gave her the know how to bring forth really interesting, fantasy based stories.

Ms. Kwitney presents to us the world of Charles Dickens and Oliver Twist, but told in a very different way that left me literally wishing that I was right there with the characters.  She painted a very vivid story that kept me interested and rooting for Aggie, the whole way through.

Aggie is studying to be a nurse, she believes firmly in ethics and doing the right thing, and she's not willing to bend the rules for anyone.  She is a tough cookie, but yet has a vulnerability about her....then there's Dodger, the other half of the couple. Dodger is a little more of "live on the edge" kinda guy, quite adequately portraying the role of Oliver Twist, but bringing forth a more in your face, spunky way about him.

Just imagine world war about to start, a steampunk Victorian Era, Bio-Mechanical soldiers and the craziness that goes with all of that.  And I'll also say that a certain incident happens to Aggie that really kicks things off.

I feel like I want to tell you the whole story in minute detail but then it will ruin it, so I'm left not really knowing what to say other than, if you're looking for a fun and really cool story to indulge in, you HAVE to pick up Corpse and Crown.
