The closer we get to leaving on vacation, the more I realize that even though I enjoy a change of scenery and some time away with the family, there's nothing I hold dearer to my heart, than my home.
I'm such a homebody, no really, I am, I don't think I could be away from home for too long and I'm not one to go out all the time. Actually, come to think of it, given the choice between going somewhere and staying at home, I'll always pick Home.
Home is definitely where the heart is, my heart, my soul. It's where I feel centered and relaxed, safe and comfortable.
I've slowly grown to realize that over the years, I vividly remember before being married, I was constantly out either with friends or working or partying or going to clubs. I remember coming home some nights and laying in bed not even bothering to remove my eye make up, and as I lay there my ears were still zinging with the sounds of the night club and at the time I thought "oh this is just wonderful, I feel content."
My my, how times change. Nowadays I feel content when I have a covered bowl of rising dough to make bread or I walk outside to grab the clothes from the clothesline. Such a different kind of contentment too, I feel so much more rewarded than in my younger nutty days.

I think what's also been making me really appreciate what I have is that I'm watching Little House on the Prairie. I'm loving it, not that I never watched it before but it was such a long time ago and I just started receiving the first discs from Netflix. I've watched the first 4 episodes and it struck me how much I long for simpler times.
It's no secret to you all, I've talked about it so many times before.
Watching the Ingalls make a home, their simple decorations and furniture, the way they take such pride of every single belonging they have and how hard they work. Makes me think that sometimes in this technologically advanced period in which we life, we just take things for granted and even worse, we don't even realize just how good we have it.
Unfortunately I also think that having all these things at our disposal only makes us lazier. Now don't go getting all huffy puffy about what I just said, I'm talking about me personally, my feelings and my views. Everyone feels differently.
But yes, home.....Home Sweet Home. The heart of our family, the place we come to when we're sick, when we're sad, when we want to shut out the world and enjoy every second of being with the family.
I don't know, I just love being a homebody, knowing that all the work I do daily is contributing to a happy healthy family.
Isn't that the best feeling in the world?

I couldn't agree with you more! I am just like you, a homebody. So comforting. I love reading your blog by the way. I'm a new stay at home mom and I love learning new things.
It really is the best place to be...I've said it many times, but I really mean it. I love my home and being home and just the feeling I get when I'm here with my family! I've always been a big fan of Little House on the Prairie and never missed an episode when it was on TV!
But have fun on your vacation....and you have home to look forward to! :)
Tammy
Sandra,being a homebody is a good thing.
Sandra you are so right! I am a home body too! My kids and one of the doctors I work with pick on me and my simplicity...how I dont want to travel or anything. The doc & his wife are going all the time but Danny & I are sooooo content right here at home. I tell people all the time that if I could get groceries delivered I would never leave home! It's the seasons of our life I guess.
ME TOO, Sandra, ME TOO!!! That must be what draws me to your blog. Home-bodies unite! :) I love Little House too. :) and Waltons and so many of those other older, simpler times shows.
Sandra, I love reading your blog! Isn't it funny how when we are younger we don't think about our home very much, how much it means to us. I think in this economy hearing about so many people losing their house to foreclosure, I am so appreciating my house so much more than I ever have. Have a great vacation, can't wait to hear about it on your blog.
Erin
I am such a homebody too. :) And I catch myself wishing I lived back in those simpler times like Little House...if only they had indoor plumbing...
I too love to be at home...I feel safe....
I am a definite home body. Home is where my heart is!
I totally agree! I love everything about home.
I am a huge homebody, I would much rather be at home than out as well, I have always been this way. I missed your blog while I was in Australia. Nice to be back
I know just what your saying, on my days off I love to just enjoy being home and puttering. I actually don't mind house work.
I tagged you in a post tonight. Join if you want, but don't feel obligated! :)
I looooooove Little House on the Prairie ! I have talked to people before about wanting to be like that ... you know, the whole family gathered around the table, doing things together. Around the one light in the house ... that sort of stuff. I think it would be lovely to create that sort of atmosphere. I just love the simplicity of it all. The togetherness. But ... I don't have to explain that to you ... you just wrote a whole post about it !! I guess what I'm trying to say is I get it and I'm with ya !!
Sandra~
Could not agree with you more. Love to stay home. As you become older it seems you appreciate having a nice home more. Great post. Amy
I could not agree with you more!! I strive for nothing more than to have a simple life. Speaking of Little House on the Prairie, your package is in the mail. I'm so sorry it took me so long to get it out. Matt has had this infection in his leg for sometime now and we have had to make trips to the doctor everyday. Sorry again for it being so late. I forgot to put the card in it as well.
Hello,
First I just want to say that I love reading your blog.
Here is an interesting idea for you since you enjoy Little House so much. If you ever get the chance make a trip to De Smet, South Dakota there you will find some of the original buildings that the Ingalls family actually lived in. I am sure that you would enjoy this very much.
I love being home too. Because I've cut back on so much voluntary work since becoming ill I'm finding it hard to adjust to being home all the time. But I really am getting back more into the swing of things and enjoying my home even more than I did before. I suppose it's the transition to the more simple life that you mention. Just being at home without having to rush through things to get to my voluntary work (etc).
Love n' hugs.
Oh yes I forgot to mention...I came across this site: http://wwwbunnysovencom.blogspot.com/
and immediately thought you'd love it (if you don't already have it in your blog list).
Hugs.
