The snow has fallen, slowly, steadily, covering the streets, driveways and every nook and cranny with it's white flakes. I love snow, I don't mind it, what I don't like are the cold temperatures which have come with this storm.
It has been so cold that some of my windows are covered in ice on the inside. Our house is old, built in 1969 and it's becoming increasingly obvious that some of these windows are poorly sealed. It is something we need to look into and fix.
Our day has been spent mainly indoors with constant checking in on the outside animals. Waters have been constantly refilled, ice having to be broken and melted from the feeders, straw has been placed around in many areas and the birds have been taking shelter in the straw mounds we've created.
Thank God the outside strays are safe and so are the birds. I honestly don't understand people who don't care about such things, it grieves me during these cold days to think of all the strays with nowhere to find warmth and food.
The deer came by right before the storm then stopped coming, and finally showed up again this evening. All 12 of them, looking for food, but also just so happy to be in the yard playing and running around.
They make me smile.
Just look at that gorgeous buck above, how majestic looking is he?
The birds have also been around, pecking at everything and anything they can, trying to find food under the snow and ice.
It has given me ample opportunity to get some gorgeous up close pictures.
We also have a cardinal couple that has shown up. I didn't know for the longest time, that the males are the red colored and the female are the brown, honestly thought the females were the bright red. Either way, they are so stunning, especially when in contrast with the white snow.
With all this staying inside, I managed to finish my first book in January, which was the Megan Soja Spark of the Revolution. I really enjoyed it, love a good Christian fiction and plan on reading plenty of those this year.
I have since started the second book in the trilogy which is called Secrets of the Revolution.
I hope you've been keeping warm wherever you are, I know this storm is affecting many of the States, almost feels like the whole country is under this cold, snow and ice threat. Please stay safe.
I will see you all back here in the morning for our Happy Homemaker Monday!
