{ Bright, White, Clean Doilies }

March 8, 2017

The brightest of whites.  I am so beyond thrilled with how my doilies turned out.

I had asked here on the blog and on Facebook for advice on how to get my doilies nice and clean again.  Over time, they had developed yellow stains from aging and I was having a hard time getting them out.

I got quite a bit of ideas, tips and advice, and different ways to try and get the stains out.  I wrote them all down and decided that I would just go down the list, try one at a time and see which one worked.

The very first one I tried was the Oxi Clean and I kinda wanted to smack myself upside the head for not thinking of it myself, I mean, I use it for other things so why didn't I think to use it for the doilies?

I bought the Oxi Clean Radiant White and soaked the doilies overnight.

The next day I removed them, and washed them in the washer as I normally would.  I was shocked at how the stains disappeared and how good they look.

I could not believe just how well Oxi clean worked on these.  I was thinking that it would be another failed attempt and my beautiful doilies would still look dingy and ugly.

I just need to give them a quick iron to maintain their shape and they're good to go.

I love the ones above, they were given to me as a wedding present from one of my stepmother's friends.  They are crochet, and fabric, but the flowers on the fabric were done by hand and painted on.  They're just beautiful :)

I have another set of doilies and some vintage linen kitchen towels that are a bit stained too, I'm hoping I can have as good a result as these.

Thank you to all who gave advice and to those that mentioned the Oxi Clean especially.

I have spent the day catching up with my daughter, watching TV with her and just chatting and so on.  I also haven't been able to have any coffee since Monday and I'm not a happy camper.  I miss my morning coffee so much, just can't wait until tomorrow afternoon.  Soon as the mammogram is done, I'm heading to Starbucks for a coffee on the way home.

I have never had caffeine withdrawals but this time, oh boy, I'm suffering.  I have had a headache for the past few days, I am so tired and just find myself catching little power naps here and there and feel super sluggish.

Anyway, I was hoping to do a Spend the Day with Me tomorrow, but then remembered it's my mammogram so that is not going to work, I'm moving it to Friday instead.

Please say a little prayer for me for my appointment, it is not something I like doing, it's actually one of the yearly exams I get very scared and worried about, so could definitely use some prayers.

I will have a post up tomorrow, recapping my day.

That's a good tip! If it worked so well for your doilies, I bet it would work on other things too. Thanks!
Praying all goes well for you tomorrow.

Glad to hear it. My neighbor Lena said what she thinks yellows doilies, linens, etc is contact with paper, cardboard, and some wood.

Thanks for the oxi tip! I will be using that on my grandmother's pieces! Oh not having caffeine before my mammogram was rough! I need that first cup of coffee at least. Good luck tomorrow!
