{ Change of plans and some Fall DIY }

Yesterday, I told you that today I would take you for a walk around my property and see how Fall was starting to show it's face, as well as gather some Myrtle Crepes and other plants, foliage so that I can make some cute arrangements inside.

I fully intended to do that until I woke up and was faced with cloudy skies and intermittent sprinkles of rain.

I should have realized by the way the house seemed so dark, more than usual at this time of the day.

So I made a quick change of plans and decided that today would be spent indoors, and dabbling in some Fall DIY's that I had been wanting to give a go. Oh I have a long list of these and I tend to keep adding to them. I don't know if I think I'll ever get them all done, or if I just really enjoy finding new possibilities to try.

But first coffee, of course, followed by some quick computer time looking through emails, Facebook, school and a few blogs.

Then the DIY's.  Ok so this first one I have had my eye on for a while, mainly because I think that the possibilities are endless and if it really works, then it's much cheaper than constantly buying the candle melts from the store.  Though I have to be honest, I really like the different scents and at $2, they're quite inexpensive, but you know me, I like homemade and if there's a chance I can make something at home, I would rather do that.

The recipe says 2 tablespoons of coconut oil, 2 teaspoons of pumpkin pie spice and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon.  I did just that.

I let it sit and burn but didn't really smell anything, it didn't give off much of a scent at all, but it didn't smell bad either so I guess there's that.  I don't know if it needs to maybe be in an actual burner so that it can get hot enough to actually give off a scent, so I'll give that a try tomorrow and let you know if it made any difference.

The second thing I made were these pine cone garlands or hangings, whatever you want to call them.

I have a lot of pine cones, most from our pine tree out back, and I never know what to make with them, other than the usual cinnamon scented pine cones for the holidays.  When I saw this DIY project, I jumped at the chance to put them to good use.

I will share with you tomorrow how I made them :)

And so my day went, pottering around with hot glue guns, looking for fabric, gathering pine cones and sprinkling cinnamon and pumpkin spice here and there.

By the time 4pm rolled around, the clouds had left the sky and we had some sun shining through.

Curt arrived home from work and immediately jumped on the mower.  I told him to wait until the weekend, but he said the yards need mowing quite badly, and I had to agree with him.  The rain the past week meant that the grass and weeds were out of control.

Since dinner was quite a simple and easy meal, Crazy Pizza Bread, I fed the kids and then waited on Curt to be done and ate with him.

While he mowed, I set to work pulling weeds from the flower beds.  It's a never ending job, I pull and I pull and tug and pull, and in a week I have to get back out there and do it all over again.

It does help to do it after it's rained as the ground is nice and soft.

It was quite a relaxing day.  I had forgotten just how much I enjoyed crafting and doing things for the house.  When the kids were younger, that is how I seemed to fill my days but as they grew, for some strange reason I stopped making things, stopped decorating for the different holidays or even trying very hard.

Don't ask me why, I don't quite know the answer myself.

Over the past year, I've started doing it again, trying to get back to that kind of being, to making, and doing, and enjoying and completely embracing this season of life.

Even if for no one other than myself, and because it brings me joy!!!
