Happy Homemaker Monday - 06/24/2024

Good morning sweet ladies, welcome back to my blog. ♥

Here we are, the last Happy Homemaker Monday of June, can you believe that?

I am a little late putting this up, well, late for my usual posting I should say.  But I had to take some treats out to the chickens, refill their water and food and give them some love.  I need to get busy with my homemaking but that can wait until this goes up.

I want to apologize for the confusion that Mister Linky caused last week, I didn't realize it would be such a hassle to do the thumbnail linkies, I did however go back and fixed it, and added all the links by hand.  Sorry again about that.  Sometimes you try to make things easier and they just become more complicated.

Anyway, it is a beautiful day here in Texas and I have a full day of homemaking ahead of me.  I'm actually looking forward to pottering around my house, I know some may find that strange, but I truly truly love being a homemaker and thing it a blessing to do what I do.  I hope all you homemakers out there realize just how important your jobs are and what a blessing you are to God.
Have a blessed week my friends!

Sandra

Sitting at my desk, the window air conditioner is on as my bedroom gets super hot in the summer.  I'm listening to Julie Green on the TV, and the furry babies are sleeping, Elliott is at my feet and Kaia is on the bed.

*** Thinking and pondering ***
Nothing specific, just a list of what I need to do that is circling around in my brain.  I need to put it on paper so I don't forget what I want to do.

*** How I am feeling ***
Sore......Curt and I did a 2 hour workout session yesterday.  We were at the gym for an hour, then did another hour at the base track just walking.  The abs machine killed me though, I am so sore today, so it's a rest day for me.

*** On the breakfast plate ***
Cup of coffee with 2% milk, Keto Waffle.  1 egg, 1/4 cup shredded cheese.  Mix well, then pour half into a mini waffle maker, cook until done, then pour the other half in and cook as well.  You can eat as they are, or you can even place a slice of ham between them and make a sandwich.  It's a great breakfast and quick to throw together too.

*** On the lunch plate ***
Tuna Salad - lettuce, tomato, onion, greek olives, greek salad dressing, boiled egg and tuna.

*** On the dinner plate ***
Francezinhas - Portuguese Meat Sandwich with Fries.

The Euro Cup 2024 has started, along with the Copa America.  I'm talking about soccer, sorry hahahah

I love soccer (football as I know it), so it's always exciting when this time of the year comes around.  We watched all the games yesterday, so we moved some of the couches around to face the TV better, and also ordered pizza and just chilled.  Of course that means that I need to set the house back to order this morning, so that is what is waiting for me.

*** To do list ***
Blog post for tomorrow
Bible and Devotional time
Workout
Homemaking
Make sauce for tonight's dinner

*** From the camera ***
Digging into the archives to pull out this picture from June of 2014.  We had just moved into our new home in Mountain Home, Idaho.  I loved that house, it was a bit tight for us, but I just really loved everything about it.  If you were following me back then, you probably recall me calling it my Amish home, because the outside kind of reminded me of an Amish house.

Happy Homemaker Monday - 06/17/2024

Good morning sweet ladies, welcome back to my blog. ♥

It is a beautiful Monday morning here in Texas, a bit windy but it's bringing in the most gorgeous of breezes through the house.

I had another busy week last week, lots of family get togethers, a one year old birthday party, my sister in law's birthday, some overnight guests (Curt's aunt and cousin), breakfast with our daughter and her boyfriend.  Just lots going on and I ended up not getting a minute to post anything else.   But it's ok, I've given myself grace through this process of returning to blogging more consistently.

Ended up not having much of a weekend at all, we were out at different functions both Saturday and Sunday, so today, I have a home needing a lot of attention, laundry, meal planning, budget, and all sorts of craziness going on.  But, that's ok, I actually really love Mondays.  I know it sounds insane to say that, but I do.

Anyway, enough rambling, let's get on with our post.  Have a blessed week my friends!

Sandra

*** The Weather ***
It's been pretty hot and with it have come all the mosquitoes and flies.  Honestly, I really really can't stand either.  Humid and we hit triple digits this weekend, already.  It's going to be a hot summer.  We are expecting some rain this week which will hopefully cool things down.

Monday - Windy with clouds, 94
Tuesday - Partly cloudy, 93
Wednesday - Partly cloudy, 91
Thursday - AM showers, 90
Friday- Partly cloudy, 91
Saturday - Partly cloudy, 94
Sunday - Mostly sunny, 97

*** Right now I am ***
Working on this post, and listening to Julie Green on the TV.

*** Thinking and pondering ***
On how to get rid of all the flies in the house, they're driving me crazy.  If you have any tried and true methods, PLEASE, leave it down below.

*** How I am feeling ***
I'm doing really good.  I am now down to 132 pounds, which is well below my goal of 135, but I can still stand to lose a few more pounds.  Still eating well and feeling very good in my new skin.  Although, I have been dealing with seasonal allergies again, I was doing so good but the winds and the pollen have been so bad in our area, plus the fur babies are both shedding as we go into summer.  Not a good combination.

*** On the breakfast plate ***
Cup of coffee with 2% milk, oatmeal.  I am on an oatmeal kick and have really been enjoying it in the morning, plus it keeps me full for many hours.

*** On the lunch plate ***
Chickpea Tuna salad

*** On the dinner plate ***
Grilled Nando's Chicken, Steamed Broccoli, Greek Potato Salad

*** On the menu ***
Will begin working on the new meal plan, today.

Monday
Grilled Nando's Chicken, Steamed Broccoli, Greek Potato Salad
Tuesday
Chourico and Beef Chickpea Stew, Butter Bean Salad
Wednesday
Hot and Spicy Lasagna, Garlic Bread, Salad
Thursday

*** What I am wearing ***
Still in my pajamas, will throw on some leggings and a tank top soon.  I like to dress for my workouts so I can get them out of the way.

*** On my reading pile ***
Book of Esther
The Lady in the Tower by Alison Weir

*** On my TV this week ***
Youtube - Brazilian and Portuguese Homemaking Vlogs, Slow Living and Quiet Vlogs
Turkish shows - Ruzgarli Tepe, Erkenci Kus
Sic Portugal TV - Senhora do Mar
Paramount - Star Trek Discovery

*** Looking around the house ***
As I mentioned above, after a busy weekend and overnight guests, I need to get it back in order.  But, I must say even when it's needing attention, I just love my home.  It warms my heart that everyone who comes over, always leaves saying they felt so warm and welcome.  The word I most hear from them is "cozy".  Love that!

*** To do list ***
Blog post for tomorrow
Bible and Devotional time
Workout
Dust, vacuum and tidy
Meal plan and budget

*** From the camera ***
My kitchen is my absolute favorite part of the house.  I spend so many hours in there, not just preparing meals but pottering around here and there.  Just love being in that room.

Happy Homemaker Monday - 06/10/2024

Good morning sweet ladies, welcome back to my blog. ♥

I hope you had a fantastic weekend and got plenty of rest, or maybe it was a weekend like some of ours where you are just as busy as the weekdays.  Whichever it was, I hope it was a good one.

Mine was good, I did absolutely nothing on Saturday....well actually I started my Saturday my mowing the back yard and then realized it was the worst idea ever.  The pollen is extremely high right now, and I got all the nastiness blown into my face, also stepped on an ant hill that was under the tall grass, and got attacked on my left foot, leaving me with tons of bites.  Got bit by multiple mosquitoes, and my arthritis flared up on my hands.  Needless to say, I returned indoors feeling defeated by the outdoors and spent the rest of the day battling awful allergies.

Sunday Curt and I went to the gym in the morning, did a small Walmart pickup and then returned home, where I once again was practically laying around with allergy meds and feeling awful.  I am still dealing with them this morning, but hopefully they go away soon.

Anyway, that was my weekend.  Let's get going with our post for today, have a blessed week my friends!

Sandra

*** Thinking and pondering ***
Nothing in particular, just a couple blog post ideas floating around in my head, as well as what I need to get done today.

*** How I am feeling ***
Have a headache from all the sniffling I've done the past 2 days.  I was so congested yesterday that even swallowing made me feel like I couldn't breathe, it made my nose feel swollen and like I couldn't breathe at all.  Hate that feeling.  But, the congestion is much better this morning and I'm sure the headache will go away as the day progresses.

*** On the breakfast plate ***
I had a cup of coffee with 2% milk, also had a Keto Waffle and did sneak a small little piece of Baklava, which I should not have had, but it's the week before my cycle and I have such horrible cravings for sweets.  Ugh!!!!

*** On the lunch plate ***

*** Looking around the house ***
I need to do the usual homemaking, vacuum and dust and actually need to clean the carpets in the living room too.  Other than that the house is clean.  I do have my little greenhouse in the front hallway, it is currently drying the herbs I harvested on Friday.

*** To do list ***
Blog post for tomorrow
Bible and Devotional time
Workout
Check the drying herbs and get jars ready
Look into a DIY Apothecary to house all my dried herbs

*** From the camera ***
The best part about being healthy and losing weight, is feeling lighter, and in order to achieve that, you need to move during the day.  I have a goal of 10 000 steps each day and I make sure to achieve that.  Sometimes even just putting on music and dancing in the kitchen between doing dishes, is enough.  Just move, just get your body moving, I promise you it will make a huge difference.

Homemaking moments

IMG_7006

When I started my blog, my intention was to always talk about, and focus on homemaking.  As I've said over the years, I find that homemaking in and of itself, has taken a backseat.  It is often looked as taboo, not something you want to admit to doing, there's nothing glamorous or exciting about it, so they say.

I guess when we look at it through those eyes, they're probably correct, but when you're a Christian woman and a homemaker, who takes pride in being at home, taking care of the family and the house, then all these little things we do, are loved and appreciated.

So returning to more consistent blogging means you'll get a look at my day to day life, what I do around here, of course books and tv shows etc. are also included, but the focus of my blog IS homemaking.

With that said, hello friends!

I snapped a few pics the past few days, just doing random things, taken during random moments, hence the different clothes I'm wearing in the photos.  No I don't change clothes multiple times a day, yes I did when I was a teenager, but who didn't right?

IMG_7021

IMG_7011

I started my morning by doing a quick change of the bed linens.  There is just something about a freshly made bed, with wonderfully clean smelling linens, isn't there?

Of course this usually means dodging animals who have a habit of either jumping on the bed, or walking around my feet with each step I take.  It used to annoy me but God reminded me that they love me, they want to be with me, and instead of fighting it I should just leave them be.  So I basically make the bed around them, and yes I do have to move one or the other out of the way at times, but for the most part, I love having them with me all the time.

IMG_7015

Once my bed is made, whether completely changing linens or just making the bed in the morning, I will sit down with the two babies, and read my Bible or do devotionals.  I usually take this time to sit in the quiet as well and pray, for me, for my family, for you all and for everyone and everything needing prayer.

It helps to start and set the tone for the rest of the day.

IMG_7032

The linens where immediately washed and set to dry.  I used to throw them in the dryer, but for the past few years, I've been placing them in the living room on my drying racks.  I just prefer to do it this way, they give the living room a wonderful scent, Elliott loves hiding under them and napping, and I save electricity too.

Now I just need to iron these, put them in the cabinet and they're all set for next time.

Why do you iron your sheets and pillowcases Sandra?
Well because that's how I learned from my great grandmother.  I think a lot of things I do are also just part of my European culture.  Ironing is something we do all the time, all the laundry is ironed, even underwear (although I don't go that far anymore), but it's just part of the laundry process that we have done for generations, so it's normal to us to wash the clothes, dry and then iron.
Good thing I love ironing or it would be one of the homemaking chores that I would really dislike doing.

IMG_7034

I've also been keeping up with the back porch area, which is a constant need for sweeping and cleaning.  The winds we get here throw all the pollen off the big tree in the yard, and it covers the ground, the furniture, everything.

I will tell you this, it teaches me patience like none other.  Nothing like sweeping and cleaning and then a few hours later seeing it all a huge mess again.

But, I just get back out there, sweep, tidy and use it as a form of exercise.  Hahaha

IMG_7068

Whether outside or inside, there is always something to do, something to clean, something to tidy.  I will never understand anyone who believes being a homemaker is a lazy job.  Unless I'm doing it wrong, but I always have something going on and needing attention.

And that is how my day usually goes, buzzing around like a little bee from area to area.  By the time my head hits the pillow at night I am just exhausted.  I wake up every morning around 4:30 am, don't ask why, I have no clue but my internal clock seems to have switched as I've gotten older.  I honestly don't know what it's like to sleep in and haven't in years.

Are you an early riser too?

I'm back, let's catch up ♥

Well good morning, it is almost noon here in North Texas, and I just got done editing some photos to share with you, have a chat and just a quick catch up I guess.

I mentioned in my Happy Homemaker Monday post, yesterday, that I really wanted to start consistently blogging and how difficult it was, etc. etc.  I thought I would start easing into it and maybe put up a post next week, but then I realized that the best way to go about it is to dive right in.  The more I put it off, the higher then chances that I won't do it.

So I pulled off the band aid, grabbed my camera, snapped some pictures of my day yesterday and today, edited them and just sat down now to get this going.

You're probably sitting in shock, I know I am, it feels strange to be typing up a blog post, but in a way also familiar and comfortable.  Maybe it's like riding a bicycle, you never forget right?

Anyway, come on in, sit with me a little and I'll show you a couple of things.  I have a few post ideas already written down for this week, which will make this process easier.  I think one of the biggest things for me, is that I've been so busy with life that when I do think about blogging, I have nothing specific to talk about, no theme, or post idea, so I quickly lose steam and give up.

If you're struggling with returning to blogging, I suggest writing down a few ideas to get you going, it helps to know what you're going to post about, at least for me it does.

So, where have I been, what have I been doing?  Well folks, nothing super exciting, just living and working out, and staying a bit out of the social media spotlight.  I am actually sharing quite a bit on my Instagram stories today, something I haven't been doing either.

For mother's day, my wonderful husband got me a Galaxy Watch, which I had been wanting for a long time.  It helps me a lot keeping track of my steps, my exercise, heart rate and so on.  He loved mine so much that he ended up getting one for himself too, to help on his health journey as well.

We've been each doing workouts, he goes to the gym on base during lunch, 3 times a week, and I do my walking workouts at home every day.  I take Saturday off, and then Sunday we both go to the base gym together, then finish off with a mile walk around the track.

It helps a lot when your husband joins you on your health journey.  Yes you can do it on your own, and I did for the first 2 months, but we motivate each other now and keep the other one accountable.  It works great.

IMG_6945

This gorgeous Lavender above, was gifted to me by our wonderful daughter Jasmine.  She came over for dinner on Mother's day, and gave me some really wonderful gifts.  The Lavender that she knows is my favorite, and then the Turkish tea set that I showed you all a couple weeks ago.  I love it.  Actually you can see the teapot and the tea glasses if you scroll up a bit.

Turkish tea is delicious, and has quickly become one of my favorites. ♥

IMG_6948

These two beauties I picked up at our local Garden Center, for very cheap.  I've always loved the Pink Polka Dot Hypoestes.  It's one of the easiest plants to care for and it looks so beautiful all the time.

I've also, well, WE (hubby and I), have also been very busy with our back patio.  Curt actually took a week off for his birthday which was the 22nd of May.  We used that time to do odd jobs around the house, and get our patio clean and set up for the summer.

It is looking wonderful.  It's not a big patio but we've made it very cute and it's a wonderful little place to sit, have a cup of coffee or cold water and be surrounded by veggies and flowers.

Aside from pumpkin and watermelon, etc., that we want to get into the ground, this year we've decided on a patio garden instead and are using some super cute raised beds.  They serve a double purpose because they house our veggies, but also create a wall around the cemented patio.  I will be showing you this in another post, which I've already planned for a tour of the back patio.

IMG_6949

Books......you know me and books, even if I don't read as often as I used to, I have a passion for books, and when I find good deals I grab them.  These 4 were a haul from Thriftbooks.  By the way, if you don't know about Thriftbooks and you love reading, you really need to get over there.  You can find all sorts of good reads, new books, older books, hard to find editions and so on.....at amazing prices.

Yes the cheapest ones are used, but I have not had a single book from there, that looked used or had something wrong with it.

So I had a few in my cart.  If you had to look into my shopping cart you would think I lost my mind.  Hahahah   It is a couple hundred dollars worth, tons of books in there.  But what I do is, when I see a book suggestion online, or I want a specific book or whatever the case may be, I head over there, do a search, and if I find it, I add it to my cart, then move them to Save for Later.

As I get a little bit of extra money, that I want to use for books, I go back, move one or two to the cart and buy them.  I got a little spending money for Mother's Day, so grabbed these 4 which had been on my list for a while.  I couldn't wait to receive them.

The first one above is from Alison Weir, one of my absolute favorite Historian authors.   Alison is fantastic, I have quite a few of her books and anytime I find another for a good price, I grab it.

I actually got 2 of her books with this order, now that I think about it.  The first is The Lady in the Tower, which is about the fall of Anne Boleyn, one of and the favorite wife of King Henry VIII.

IMG_6950

This one above ♥  Oh my!!!

You know my love for Jane Austen, and I've been eyeing this book for so long, but I never wanted to pay almost $30 for it.  I love books but I find that price quite steep.  So I kept waiting and waiting, and I mean waiting because it was released in 2010.  I finally found a good copy at Thriftbooks for $8.  I immediately jumped on it.

I haven't read it yet, I only did a quick look through and it's everything I wanted and expected.  I will have to show you more at a different time because if you love Jane Austen, this is a book you will want in your collection.

IMG_6951

The second Alison Weir book was The Wars of the Roses.  If you're familiar with the Tudors and that time of history, you will no doubt already know all about the wars of the roses.  If you don't, you can read more about it here, and here at the Britannica website.  It's fascinating, you will love it.

And the last one is another book that I have wanted for many years.  It is Portuguese, and from one of the biggest authors in Portugal, Jose Saramago.  It is called Memorial do Convento.  You can actually find it in English too.  Here's the summary:

Portugal, 1711: an amorous friar is pursued naked through the rubble-strewn streets of Lisbon; an enthusiastic procession of flagellants roars with pleasure over the damnation of adultery; a royal prince uses hapless sailors for target practice; and women dressed in colorful finery watch as lapsed converts and sorcerers are put to death by flames. In the midst of the terrors of the Inquisition and the plague, a seemingly mismatched couple discover the wonders of love. This poetic tale, graced with exquisite historical details and full of magic and adventure, is a tapestry of human folly and human will.

It is very well known in Portugal, and if I'm not mistaken it is on the schools literature reading list.

IMG_6952

Homemaking is also a constant ongoing task.  Clean this, dust that, sweep here and there, and a few hours later, rinse and repeat.  Right?

But I love being a homemaker and staying busy.  I incorporate my workouts into it too, I do have my specific workouts that I do every afternoon, but I also log all the homemaking and walking I do during the day, on my watch.  The biggest thing aside from eating healthy and cutting snacks and junk, is staying busy.  Walking is a huge HUGE help.  Moving, taking steps.

Yes you can sit down, and I do as well, but after about 30 minutes, I get up again and walk more.  Sometimes I watch a youtube video or two, while walking on the spot, or walking back and forth in the living room or bedroom.  Every step counts.

IMG_6958

IMG_6973

IMG_6981-3

I'm also trying to remember to take pictures of the meals I'm having, to start sharing on the food blog again.  It will help me keep track of some favorite recipes, but it may also inspire some of you if you want to eat healthier as well.

This Spicy Cucumber Salad has become one of our favorites, my husband especially loves it and always asks me to make it.  It is super easy to make and is packed with yumminess.  I'll have this one on the blog later today.

IMG_6985

I think that is all.  But just off the top of my head, some other quick little tidbits that happened around here:

  • I did my mammogram last week and thankfully had a good result.
  • Still need to get my blood redrawn, I know I know, I keep forgetting.
  • Our newest baby chick is so big, thankfully also, she is a girl.  I did not want to get stuck with another rooster.  At the moment we still have mama and baby separated from the rooster and the other chicken, just until the chick is a little bigger, she is now 8 weeks old, so soon we will reintroduce them to the flock again.
  • We have had horrible weird weather, and one of the days we got hit with such bad hail that it broke my husband's truck windshield and dented the whole truck.  Thankfully as well, USAA was great with the claims, and we've already replaced the windshield.
  • Jasmine is doing wonderful at her work, she got a bonus of $1000 just for work well done.  She also just got moved to Senior Tech and is also being moved to Supervisor training probably by the end of the year.

IMG_6990

And that my friends, is it.  I hope you enjoyed catching up, I am sorry it's been so long since I've come in to talk with you, but hopefully I can keep this going.

I hope you all have a wonderful rest of your Tuesday.  I'm going to get some walking done because I've been sitting here for at least 30 minutes working on this post.  I will see you all back here tomorrow, I'm not sure what I will share, I'll take another look at my list and figure it out.  Guess it will be surprise for you all.

Have a blessed day!

Happy Homemaker Monday - 06/03/2024

Good morning sweet ladies, welcome back to my blog. ♥

It is Monday morning, a rainy cloudy, foggy morning here in North Texas.  But, I am here for it.  Although the rain season for us has been a bit much, if it doesn't end soon we'll be floating away.  Anyway, I still welcome a rainy day, like always.

It is June, the first Happy Homemaker Monday of this month, and also the month where I am hoping, really really hoping, to return to a more consistent schedule of posting.  Like I said, fingers crossed!

There is just so much I want to share, from my daily life to new recipes on the food blog, my health journey, books, shows, and so on.  I need to get on with it, and stop hesitating so much.  Let's see how it goes.

For now, let's just get on with our post for today, see what is happening in all our homes, and start off the week right.

Have a wonderful week my friends ♥

Sandra
