So much goes through my mind on this day.
As a military wife I am daily reminded of the sacrifices our men and women make for this beautiful country. I don't think they need ONE specific day to be appreciated and thought of, it should be an everyday thing.
But on Veteran's Day, I am always overwhelmed by pride and sadness for those who have since passed.
My husband comes from a long line of military men, grandfathers and father and uncles etc. It's something he is extremely proud of and I in turn, am proud too.
It's amazing to be able to say that I am part of a military family of brave, patriots who loved their family but above all, loved their country and served it with the utmost respect.
So today, I want to honor all the men and women of our Armed Forces, and I also want to share some pictures of the ones in my family.
First and foremost, my amazing husband. I love this man so much and I can't even put into words just how proud I am of him. I have personally watched him sacrifice so much of himself, of family time, of health, to this country that he adores.
I thank him daily for his 21 years of service to this country. We love you Curt and are extremely proud of you.
And now my father in law Doug. He served in Vietnam, he was a Marine Drill Instructor and he was an amazing man. I only wish that I had more time with him before he passed, but the few years that I did have were enough to cement in me a huge respect and love for him.
He always made me feel loved. He went above and beyond and I remember when my husband was deployed right after September 11, my father in law was already battling cancer, but he got on the phone and offered to drive from Oklahoma to Idaho to pick me and Jasmine up and take us back with him so we wouldn't be alone for Christmas. Just loved him :)
I think he got his sense of patriotism from his father, who also served, in the Army during World War II. Here is grandpa Bourland.
Next up is Uncle Mike, my father in law's brother and my hubby's Uncle. Also served :)
And last but not least, I had to share this one. Our Nicholas wants to follow in daddy's footsteps, which for us as parents is the best feeling in the world. But I have to admit that as a mom, it terrifies me.....it's never easy but it's something that I am so proud of him for wanting to do.
Our future little Veteran.
So for them, and for all those men and women out there who have served and who continue serving, my prayers is that God protects them and blesses them immensely.
Happy Veteran's Day!!!!
