{ Finish each day and be done with it }

“Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day. You shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.”

--Ralph Waldo Emerson

I absolutely LOVE this quote from Emerson.

When I first started my married life, I had this idea that I needed to be the perfect wife and homemaker, and that if I couldn't get everything done on my list, then I was somehow failing or letting people down.

I've always been my biggest critic, because my husband could care less what the house looks like.

Ok let me rephrase that, he obviously doesn't want to live in a pig pen, but he is not one of those that demands things be done, or the house spotless or dinner at a certain time and so on.  Curt is extremely laid back in that sense.  He goes to work, he comes home and he leaves all of the homemaking and such, to me.

There have been times where I got frustrated with myself for something not looking the way I wanted or being sick and not able to cross off my items from the to do list, where he's actually told me to leave it, let it go, don't worry about it.

That Emerson quote above, is how I now live my life.   A few years into our marriage, I stopped being so hard on myself and realized that life is going to do what it wants to do, whether the kitchen sink is empty or clean, and whether the floors are vacuumed or not.

I think it's a great way to be in life, not just in homemaking but in general.  We do what we can, we give our best, and sometimes we don't feel like it, or something gets in the way, and that's ok too.

Take my blog for example.

I was thinking about how I've been blogging for 12 years, and that's an insane amount of time to still be here, sharing, blogging and so on.  Granted I'm not posting quite as daily or as much as I would like, but I'm not gone either, I'm still here and that is what matters.

I think you all know how frustrated I would get at times about not being able to blog daily, but it's just not going to happen, some days it will, some days it won't, some weeks will have posts every day (like this week), other weeks will go by with only the Happy Homemaker Monday.  It all depends on what is happening in my life at the moment.

Been working on my menu plan for the next two weeks, and I actually went to my food blog and got ideas from old, and I mean old, menu plans from back in the day.  Much as I like trying out new recipes, it's comforting to have some good old family favorites, isn't it?

I'll be grocery shopping in the morning, but here's the plan for the next two weeks, I'll link up any recipes that are on the blog.  Oh and if a certain recipe is missing pictures, it's because Photobucket has decided to remove most of my photos from older posts and instead is showing up a very ugly bandwidth whatever icon.  I have to go back and re upload all the photos I have, or take new ones as I make them again in the next two weeks.

Friday 6th - Pizza (Either Domino's or Pizza Hut, not sure.  Jasmine and I have hair appointments tomorrow afternoon and I'm not sure what time we'll be done)
Saturday 7th - Cheese Stuffed Meatloaf, Mash, Green beans and bacon
Sunday 8th - We always do a big breakfast on Sundays and then leftovers the rest of the day
Monday 9th - Air Fried Chicken Wings, Easy and Yummy Oven Cheesy Rice
Wednesday 11th - Nick's Birthday (out to dinner)
Thursday 12th - Dad's Favorite Chicken, Mashed Potatoes
Friday 13th - Tortellini Alfredo, Grilled Zucchini
Saturday 14th - Not sure, probably grabbing something quick while out
Sunday 15th - Leftovers
Monday 16th - Feijoada (Portuguese Chili)
Tuesday 17th - Chicken a la King, Butter Garlic Spaghetti
Wednesday 18th - Homemade Tacos, Cilantro Lime Rice
Thursday 19th - Cheesy Garlic Pizza

I just need to finalize the grocery list and then I'm all done.

I tell you, I can't wait to have a haircut tomorrow, I've given up on growing out my hair.  I need to just let it go, and realize that it's so much easier with short hair that I can quickly style and go, not to mention, much easier to color as well.

But I'll take some pictures after the cut and I'll show you all in my post tomorrow.

Right, time to get busy, finish what I need, and then do a little more schooling with Nick.....speaking of which, I can't believe he is turning 15 on Wednesday of next week.  15 years old, oh my word, where has the time gone.  :)

Wow! 15! The time passes so fast. And I love that quote, too. Do what you can, and start fresh! Can't wait to see your new haircut!

Wise words, Sandra.

It's crazy isn't it? Thanks Carol, probably just going back to my usual asymmetrical bob, will see :)

Aren't they? We often get so caught up on what was left to do, or panic if plans change, but it's easier to just let it go and start fresh the next day :)

I also love that quote and it was great to read it again, just what I needed to be reminded of today. Thanks for sharing.

I quit coloring my hair when I was around 50, which is 19 years ago now. :-) I started growing my hair long when I started dating my husband, because he liked long hair. (My mother made us have short hair and perms.) My hair is just about waist level. I clip it up, braid it, don't worry about it much. I've been inspired to keep being me by pinterest pages of older ladies with long, silver locks.

You are a lovely lady. Enjoy each new day you are blessed with. Your homemaking skills and your creativeness always inspire me.
