Saturday

May 17, 2025

Saturdays mean gym morning session, so I try to get all my chores done before I even head out, because I know that when I return, I want to take my shower and relax.  It drains me!

So breakfast dishes, starting more laundry, tidying the house, opening windows, fluffing pillows and folding blankets, etc.

I actually remembered to grab my camera this morning, just to try and snap some pictures of the surrounding area.  We have many farms around us and always seem to be surrounded by cows and horses.

Of course today, since I had my camera out, there was not many in sight.  hahahah

I don't have much to share today, as we spent the whole afternoon dealing with the new coop and run.  But, I still wanted to come in and drop some photos and jot down a little of what my Saturday was.

{ Rearranging the bedroom - My Saturday }

_MG_2439

I woke up this morning and just lay.  For once, I felt quite rested and had actually slept in until 8:30am, which is not something I usually do, but due to my insomnia making a reappearance the past week, sleep has been hit or miss around here.

But as I lay in bed and watched the sun starting to seep in through window, I realized that my bedroom has been one of the rooms in the house that I haven't really paid much attention to.   Yes, I clean and make my bed and tidy up, but I haven't really set it up the way I want it.

_MG_2449

It's a beautiful room, it's spacious and brings in a lot of light, but I just want to make it more cozy, and so I got up this morning with the decision to change things up a bit, move this and that, add a little tough here or there and really just make it more inviting and cozy.

_MG_2480

First on the agenda though was the usual cleaning of the house, and the piles of laundry which are just never ever ending.

Curtains and windows were opened, , I turned on the diffuser with my Lavender Vanilla scent, sprinkled some carpet deodorizer all around, got the dishes going and started my first load of laundry.
_MG_2483

Gave the house a good vacuum, dusting and tidying up, tossed laundry from washer to dryer, hung things up, moved them to the closets and drawers and then made a quick lunch for Curt and I, as we were the only 2 awake around noon.

We absolutely love Fajitas and we buy a prepacked mix from our local United Supermarkets.  I usually make it my self, but it's good to have these in the freezer for a quick meal.

_MG_2491

After lunch, I got started in the bedroom.  I gave it a good clean, but also moved things around a bit, set up a small desk area for my computer, added a picture above it, hung up my mirror, brought in a little table and a plant and other little bits here and there.

The results?

A much cozier and warmer, inviting bedroom which actually makes me want to spend time in.  There are still a few things I want to change, one of the big ones is the wall color.  The previous tenant had it painted a salmon pinkish color and I don't really like it at all.  My bedroom furniture is all black and wood and it doesn't look good.

We will be painting our walls grey, but for now, we will make do with what we have :)

I'll take some pictures tomorrow during the day and share them with you.

_MG_2492

The computer above used to belong to Jasmine, but she's since gotten herself a laptop and no longer uses the desktop.  I have a laptop myself but I have been wanting a desktop to use for my budget and billing, holding all my pictures and even blogging etc.

It's not a very fast computer, but it works for what I want it to work.  I'm resetting it to factory defaults so it will be practically a new computer, but as you know if you've had to do this before, it takes forever and a day.

_MG_2493

So seeing that it's now evening, I'm going to let it sit and reset, and in the meantime get this post up on my laptop and watching some TV.

I'm now completely caught up on When Calls the Heart, Poldark and Call the Midwife.  I've switched to Frontier on Netflix and am really enjoying it.

Well friends, it is time for me to get on out of here and get this post finished up.

Hope you all have a beautiful Saturday night, and I will catch you all back here tomorrow :)

{ My Saturday }

May 26 and 27, 2018

May 26 and 27, 2018

Saturday was mowing day, here in our country home.  Mowing 3 acres, even with a riding mower, can take hours and it's hot and tiring to do.

My husband and I take turns, it's easier to get everything done with more than one person putting in the effort, and I must say I do quite enjoy using the big riding mower.

May 26 and 27, 2018

With living in a big property like ours (big to us at least, I'm sure 3 acres for some is just a tiny little blip), one of the perks is that when spring and summer roll around, the land burst into color with gorgeous flowers and trees.

It is during these months that I take full advantage of all the beautiful flowers available, and I fill vases or mason jars with the cuttings to bring a bit of color indoors.

I've also been reading up on how to propagate cuttings so that I can try and regrow some of my favorite flowers and trees outside.  If you have advice and tips on doing that, please let me know in the comments.

May 26 and 27, 2018

I pulled out my cotton yarns to see what I have, because I really want to make some crochet placemats.  The picture below is just a pattern that I was testing out.

May 26 and 27, 2018

Wish I could spend more time out on my back patio, but the Wasps are out in full force and making it unbearable to be out there.  We need to get some wasp spray to get all the nests they've been building around the patio overhang and the walls etc.  It's the one thing about this time of year that frustrates me to no end......wasps, flies AND the darn mosquitoes that are out in huge numbers too.

May 26 and 27, 2018

I looked through all my yarn to see what kind of cotton I had because I've been wanting to make some crochet placemats, and maybe even see about selling some.  The picture below is of a simple pattern I was trying out, but I'm not thrilled about the colors of this yarn.

May 26 and 27, 2018

This weekend has been so relaxing, between the usual daily tasks, I've been able to take moments to have a little fun and do things I enjoy too.

May 26 and 27, 2018

May 26 and 27, 2018

Last night, hubby and I decided last minute, to make fajitas for dinner.  We ran to the store, bought the fajita mix, and some beer and came back home, then quickly invited my brother, sister in law and nephew to come join us.  It was not planned at all and I have to tell you that I am the kind of person who loves being spontaneous and just up and deciding to do something and going.

I only really like planning for something big in advance, if it's a road trip, or a special occasion coming up in the future etc.  But, on a day to day basis, I love just being like "let's go" and jumping in the car and leaving.

We had a wonderful couple of hours with the family, ate good food, enjoyed some cold beers, ate ice cream for dessert and played Jenga and so on.  Truly feel that those are the best moments, the last minute get togethers :)

I did try to stay up and watch some TV, but by the time I climbed into bed with my Marley, we both  asleep within a few minutes.

Best kind of Saturdays!!!

{ My Saturday }

January 7, 2017

Hi everyone, I sure hope your Saturday has been a good one :)

I was all ready to do a grocery haul for you, because I had to get groceries this morning, but then before I could get it all out and pictures taken, we had already put away some of the stuff.  I thought about taking it all out again but, no, that would have just been silly to do.  I guess the grocery haul will have to wait until 2 weeks from today when I go back out.

I can tell you that I spent $270 and that was because I had to get a few things that we were completely out of, so items that I don't usually need to get every grocery trip.  It also included a $5 tip for the young man that took them out for me at the Commissary.

Which brings up a question for me, do you always tip them, and how much do you usually tip them?  I try to tip every single time, but there have been a few times in the past where I really didn't have extra money, what I had was for food and then I felt absolutely awful not giving something.  So I try to give at least a dollar, but it makes me feel so guilty.  Anyone else feel that way?

So anyway, went out this morning in 7 degree weather.  I'm not even joking, thanks Texas.  I thought my cold days were behind me in Idaho but I guess not.

We even had snow yesterday.

January 7, 2017

It snowed on and off all day, nothing stuck really, so for someone who is used to Idaho snow, this made me chuckle, but nonetheless I guess it was snow right?

The temperatures dropped significantly so when I headed out for groceries this morning it was 7 degrees.  I did not want to leave the house, but didn't much have a choice.

I guess seeing the trees and fence like this didn't help either  Hahah

But anyway, I got my shopping done, came home and put it all away, which seems to take about as long as going out and getting it.  It's definitely not one of my favorite chores of being a homemaker.  I like the grocery store part, just not the unpacking.

This afternoon we took Marley for his very first walk. It felt good to be out there in the crisp air, it wasn't as cold and we want to get him used to walking on a leash and being out and about.

Living in the country does have it's perks either, you get to enjoy nature in all it's glory.

January 7, 2017

We have a few Cardinals in our trees and I just love them, they are so beautiful.

January 7, 2017

Marley loved his walk. He was a bit apprehensive at first and kept jumping at Curt and I to pick him up. He was even intimidated by the horses next door but after a few minutes, he got into it and loved being outside. I think we need to make this a part of his routine especially since he is such a big boy and needs more exercise than our pugs ever did.

Back home, I got right into fixing dinner which was a very simple but filling meal. Layered Nacho Dinner. As I explained in my menu post yesterday, this can be eaten over tortilla chips as nachos, or with soft flour tortillas which is what we did tonight.

It tastes amazing, it is filling, it is quick and I don't think anyone in the family will complain. I also have quite a bit leftover which will be great for mid week lunches.

If you want to try for your own family, go on over to my blog and check out the Layered Nacho Dinner post.

I wanted to also show you my list of books to read or that I'm currently reading.  I've been getting this overwhelming need to go to the library and I may have to bite the bullet and go tomorrow.  I'll see how I'm feeling.

But for the moment these are on my shelf.

January 7, 2017

And speaking of shelves, I just have to show you what my son gave me for Christmas. He sure knows his mama :)

January 7, 2017

How beautiful are these glasses?  Oh my goodness, I was in utter shock when I opened my gift and saw these.  Being the huge Jane Austen fan that I am, these couldn't have been a better choice for me.  Just gorgeous!!!

January 7, 2017

Well friends, I'm going to end this post, I still want to go watch a few vlogs, see if there's anything on TV, share the post over on the Facebook page and try to relax the rest of the night.

I have tons of laundry to get through tomorrow as well as wanting to give the hard floors in the house a real good sweep and mopping.

I'm hoping it's not as cold when I wake up though, let's pray for that right???

My Saturday

Crazy weeds

My morning started with a 7am wake up call from Miss Lola having a seizure.  her seizures have become more frequent she is now averaging one a month and I'm hoping and praying that it stays like that.  I do have to get her to the vet soon because she's almost out of her Phenobarbital.  After that crazy start to my morning, I got dressed, had some coffee and then grabbed my grocery list and headed to base.  I have been there many times with hubby but never by myself and it's usually a little intimidating heading to a new base without knowing where anything is.

I did ask the gate guard where the commissary was and then ended up driving right past it LOL  Oh my!!!

But, now it's out of the way, I know exactly where to go and I can get my shopping done when I need to without having to wait on Curt to take me.

Came home, got the groceries put away, ran up to Whataburger for some lunch and then proceeded to move on with housework, laundry and putting some finishing touches on some rooms.  I still have not put everything exactly as I want it, and I think it's the first time that I have ever moved into a home and not unpacked and organized within a few weeks, then again it's the first time that I've moved into a place near all the family and had family at the house on a constant basis, which doesn't really give me much time to get my life in order, so to speak.

Rain

Living room window

The rain started pouring the minute I got home and it remained all day long, couldn't be happier.  The house took on a cozy warm glow, lamps were turned on, candles were lit and we all enjoyed the thunder and the constant pouring outside.

Living room window

While the laundry washed, I got to work on a few projects.  I still hadn't finished the family room, I think because I was a little unsure of what I wanted to do with it, you know how I feel about the paneling in there, but I decided that it will be perfect for a primitive/colonial look.

I don't have many things yet, but what I do have I got up and already I'm loving the room more.  Can't wait to add more touches here and there.

Working on house

I hung this shelf on one of the bare walls and added a few bits here and there, still need more but I'm thinking I need a trip to my local Goodwill soon.  It's been years since I've been to one, last time it was back in Arizona.

Family Room

Love it!!!

Family Room

Rearranged the fireplace area, added a few things and removed some and am completely in love with it. Makes the room so homey.

Kitchen

Added these two to the entrance to my kitchen, thinking of hanging some herbs from the bottom one, not sure yet, or maybe some vintage towels.

Crochet shelf

One of my favorite ways to spend my weekends is puttering around the house and it felt so lovely to be able to do that, to not have to worry about hosting family, or cooking big meals, just doing what I felt like and relaxing.

I watched shows, I changed out bed linens, I sat on Pinterest for an hour or so getting ideas and I planned our upcoming family reunion, which by the way, if I hadn't mentioned yet, is going to be hosted at OUR house.  Oh my!!!

Over 20 people, every bedroom and sleeping surface taken, breakfast, lunch and dinner for everyone.  I am sure it will be fun but I'm dreading it too and hoping my house doesn't get completely trashed.

So today is Sunday, and I've done nothing so far but sat down in the living room with my hubby watching TV.  We've been indulging in Beyond Scared Straight, which I absolutely love, and not really doing anything other than talking, relaxing and enjoying shows.  Sometimes you need a down day, a day of just being lazy and we don't get that very often around here.

I hope you're having a wonderful weekend so far and that it helps recharge you and get you ready for the work week ahead.  We have school starting on the 12th of August so only really a week and half left before the school year is under way.  I can't believe how fast this summer has gone.

Right, I have to get the pizza out of the oven and get back to my show, hubster is waiting.
