Yarn Along

In this week's Yarn Along, I have been working on a new granny square blanket.  I was going to do tiny squares, about 3 rounds each, but quickly decided against it.  I am the kind of crocheter that loves the craft, but if I have to make too many of a specific pattern, I quickly get bored.

 

I opted for larger squares.  I'm going for a Cath Kidston inspired color palette, as I often do, and so far I am just loving the quick way these work up and it's also a mindless thing that I can work on while watching TV.

 

As for a physical book, I am currently reading Measure of Devotion by Nell Joslin.  I will be doing a review on it this coming Friday, so if you're interested keep an eye out for that.  This novel is set during the Civil War, which makes it a fascinating read for me.  Really liking it and can't wait to tell you all about it. 

On my Kindle I am reading The Watchmaker's Daughter by C.J. Archer.  I found it for free on Kindle and downloaded it.  I'm not too far in but I can already tell that I'm going to enjoy this one as well.

 

 

Yarn Along

Two of my favorite things.  

 

I am still reading and getting through Romancing Miss Bronte by Juliet Gael.  I have fallen in love with Gael's writing, she makes it look so effortless, like each word just flows right off the page.  Unfortunately it seems she only wrote one book, this one that I'm reading.  What a shame, I would have loved to continue reading her work.

 

As for crocheting, I am currently working on a Star Blanket, using colors that I wouldn't usually put together, especially the purple.  But I'm loving how it's turning out, and think it's quiet reminiscent of the beginning of Spring, where there is some greenery, some flowers and still some browns laying around.

Another Wednesday, another Yarn Along. 

Don't know about you all, but these days seem to just be flying by, goodness.

Anyway, here is what I've been working on, since finishing my crochet hook case, I've started a Daisy Square Pillow, following this pattern.  I've seen different ones out there where the petals are much longer, but I like this one better :)

If you look at my kitchen table right now, this is what you'll see.....my crochet bag, my Kindle and my project :)

I made all these last night right before bed, they come together really fast and the pattern is very easy.

Loving the Daisy Squares, the pillow is not going to be very big, I'm thinking about 16 squares of these Daisies should suffice.

Should have them all done today :)

As for what I'm reading, I'm really enjoying A Little Household Book for a Little Girl.  It's really sweet and you learn a lot about housekeeping in the 1800's, lots of cute little tips that I plan on using myself.

I'm also thinking of putting together a similar little book for my daughter who is almost 13 years old, but changing it up a bit to fit into our day and age.  Just think it would be a cute book for her to learn housekeeping :)

That's what I'm working on. Now I'm going on over to Ginny's blog to add my entry to the list and see what others are making :)

{ Yarn Along }

What a day it's been for me.  Our little pug Lola seems to have hurt her eye somehow, we are not sure what happened because we didn't see her hit it anywhere or anything hit it, but she now has a Corneal Ulcer.

It is so heartbreaking, I don't care what anyone says, if you have pets and you love them as much as we do ours, you understand that they become a part of the family, they are like your children, so seeing any of them in pain or uncomfortable is just heart wrenching.

She's been to the vet, she is now on medicated eye ointment and has to be seen again in 7 days, the vet feels that by then it should be healed.  So I'm praying and hoping and asking YOU to please pray too that her eye heals, I know it may seem like a weird request, but we love this little one so much :)

But on to today's Yarn Along, which is going up really late, but hey, better late than never right?

I finished the Crochet Hook Case but the first one was a bit of a mess, like I said last week, the pattern was a little hard to follow so the first try was trial and error.

I decided to make another one and this time it went by a lot faster and a lot smoother.

Didn't really know if these 3 colors would work well, but figured I would just give it a try anyway and I'm glad I did, I like them :)

The vintage buttons I got from Cath Kidston seemed like the perfect accessory for this little case

As for what I'm reading, well nothing, finished my last book and am trying to decide what to read.

Good Morning, another Wednesday and it's time for Yarn Along with Ginny over at Small Things.

Here's what I'm working on this week, a crocheted case for my crochet hooks.  I just started it last night and already had to pull it apart once, the pattern I'm following is not exactly easy to understand and there's some errors here and there so I'm having to improvise a lot, it's one of those moments where I'm thankful that I've been crocheting for years so that I don't stumble and cry.

Using up some leftover yarn from another project :)  I do really like these 3 colors together.

The pockets for the hooks are crocheted as you go along, it was a little confusing at first but now I got it and it's simple to follow.

I'm also starting my menu plan for the next two weeks so I'm looking through my cookbooks and this one is so cute to read, recipes interspersed with stories from Little House on the Prairie.

I've missed so many things on my blog and this Wednesday feature hosted by Ginny at Small Things, is one of them.

If you've read my blog for a while then you'll know that there are a few things that you will always find by my side.  A book, my camera, a crochet hook and yarn.  No matter where I go, these things tend to have their own place in my bag :)

Ginny asks us to share our current projects, whatever we're knitting or crocheting along with something we're reading and I'm only too happy to oblige.

I made this one last night in about 30 minutes, it was really simple to crochet and so cute, thanks again to the amazing Lucy at Attic24.  I've been her fan since she started her blog way back in 2008, she's been such an inspiration to me :)

This wonderful crochet trim makes a very cute addition to mason jars.

While crocheting, I was also reading A Pioneer Sampler book, which I am truly enjoying. It follows the daily life of a pioneer family in 1840, what they did, how they made things, how they survived etc. Very sweet book with lots of great ideas :)

I'm thinking of making longer ones to trim my shelves in the pantry. I probably won't use the same colors, I am thinking softer colors...maybe white and then a few other pastels in there. We'll see.

Anyway, that's what I'm working on right now, by next week I'll have moved on to another project :)

Yarn Along

This morning I'm joining in with Ginny over at Small Things, for the Yarn Along.

I love yarn, I love needles whether crochet or knitting and I just love the peace and calmness it brings me when I'm immersed into a project.

Working on my Blooming Pillow.  It's going slowly because I'm so busy with other stuff but I love how it's turning out so far....

And as for reading, I've got Wishes & Stitches from Rachael Herron.  It will be reviewed on my blog soon.

I think it's the perfect book for us knitting/crochet lovers and so far I'm really enjoying it :)

It's Wednesday and that means that Ginny over at Small Things, is hosting her weekly Yarn Along.

So here is my contribution for today.

I just received this book for review so I haven't started it yet, but it certainly looks interesting.  A Fierce Radiance by Lauren Belfer.

When Life magazine sends strikingly beautiful photographer Claire Shipley to report on a promising new medication made from green mold, Claire, 36, the single mother of a young son, who lost her daughter to blood poisoning eight years before, is moved by the drug's potential to save lives. She also becomes smitten with resident doctor James Stanton, a man with two interests: penicillin and bedding Claire. But as the war casualties pile up, penicillin becomes an issue of national security and the politics of the drug's production threaten to disrupt the pair's lust-fueled romance, especially when James is sent abroad to oversee human trials of the drug. The pharmaceutical companies—including one owned by Claire's father—realize the financial potential in penicillin, which leads to a hodgepodge of soapy plot twists: suspicious deaths, amnesia, illness, exploitation, and espionage.

I think I'm going to enjoy reading this one.

But what about the yarn you may ask, well here is what I'm working on right now and absolutely loving every little minute of it.

A Mini Hexagon pillow for my bedroom.  These work up SO fast, I make about 6 an hour, just started and it's coming along very well. 

I'm going to try and squeeze in some hooky time today and see if I can finish the front.

I'm still reading These Is My Words, and loving every single page. It's my kind of book and I totally love the main character Sarah :)

As for what I'm knitting, I finished the Broken Cable Cowl and have started crocheting these cute slippers to use up some really cool blue yarn that I have laying around.

{ Yarn Along }

If you know me, you will know that two of my favorite things are books and yarn.  Matter of fact you can always count on finding one or both very near me at all times.

When I came across the blog Simple Things, one of the things that caught my eye was that the author seems to love yarn and books as much as I do, then I noticed that every Wednesday she has this great feature called "Yarn Along" in which you post a picture of your yarn along with the current book you're reading.

So I've decided to join in every week, I think I'll really enjoy playing along and visiting all the participants.

I just received these two books in the mail and have already started These is My Words.  I am absolutely loving it, it's just my kind of book, it is a little hard in the beginning with the words and the way it's written but in no time I was well underway and not even noticing anymore.



I also received Sarah's Quilt which is the sequel to These Is My Words.  I can't wait to read that one too.



As for my yarn, I'm still slowly working through my African Flower Crochet Blanket, it is gorgeous and so soft and I'm just in love, I only wish I had more hours in the day to get more done.
