To save her family from financial ruin, Miss Poppy Garrison accepts an unusual proposition to participate in the New York social season in exchange for her grandmother settling a family loan that has unexpectedly come due. Ill-equipped to handle the intricacies of mingling within the New York Four Hundred, Poppy becomes embroiled in one hilarious fiasco after another, doomed to suffer a grand societal failure instead of being deemed the diamond of the first water her grandmother longs for her to become.

Reginald Blackburn, second son of a duke, has been forced to travel to America to help his cousin, Charles Wynn, Earl of Lonsdale, find an American heiress to wed in order to shore up his family estate that is in desperate need of funds. Reginald himself has no interest in finding an heiress to marry, but when Poppy’s grandmother asks him to give etiquette lessons to Poppy, he swiftly discovers he may be in for much more than he bargained for.

My Thoughts:

This book had be in stitches.  My word!!!

So, we are introduced to Poppy who is not interested, at all, in a husband or finding a husband or even doing any of the socialite engagements that are expected of young ladies her age.

As much as she doesn't want any part of it, her grandmother Violet is determined to throw her right smack dab into the middle of society, in the hopes of her nabbing an eligible (hopefully rich) partner.

The book begins with one of the social events that Poppy's grandmother has blackmailed her into attending.  What ensues from during that evening had me chuckling through the pages.  Poppy is how I imagine I would have been thrown into one of these balls.  She can't dance, she has no interest in learning or being how everyone else is, and she gives right back as good as she gets.

That's great, in this day and age, but back in those days, that was not proper of a lady at all.

In the middle of all this craziness, a dance that sends Poppy flying across the room and halts the whole hall, a funny encounter with a plate of snails and lots of hilarious moments, she comes face to face with the Reginald Blackburn.  Reginald is visiting New York with his cousin Charles who happens to be an Earl.  He is taken aback by Poppy's rash attitude but can't help to feel drawn to her.

To Poppy, he is just another arrogant man who she will not shut up for.  While all the eligible young ladies are vying for his attention, Poppy is doing everything in her power to show him and any other man around that she is not a good catch.

Things getting even more complicated and hilarious, when Violet hires Reginald to give Poppy Etiquette lessons in order to turn her into a Diamond.  Oh boy!!  lol

If you enjoy a sweet, funny, cute romance then this is the book for you.  I read it super quick and found it such a delightful book.

It is a Christian novel with a running theme about forgiveness and family love.

Thank you to TLC Tours and the publisher for providing me with a review copy of this book, in exchange for my honest review.
