{ Still sick but pushing through }

IMG_0485

It has been a tough week.  I have been sick with a cold, fever, and now the lingering annoying cough that keeps me awake at night.  It's been frustrating to say the least.  I don't know about you guys, but I have zero patience for being unwell, I don't like laying around, I don't like having no energy or feeling sick, so I am just praying that this goes away fast.

I am so tired this morning, got very little sleep last night due to the constant coughing.  My chest hurts, my throat hurts from the constant hacking.  Goodness!

But anyway, I needed to come in and just pick the winner to the blogiversary giveaway, which I haven't had a chance to do yet, and also just share a little of what I've been doing this past week, which has been quite minimal due to the crud I have.

As a woman, whether you are sick or not, life goes on and there are things that need to be done.  On Monday night I dragged myself around the kitchen while dealing with body aches and a fever that hit me out of nowhere.  I made dinner for the boys, got the dishwasher loaded and ready to go, set the table for them, set out the tupperware for leftovers and left instructions on what to do.

I did not eat dinner, I just couldn't bring myself to eat or even sit at the table.  I got into the shower, took my cold medicine and went to bed.  I think of all the symptoms of a cold, the sore throat and the fever aches are the worst for me.

I have moved around the house slowly, doing what needs to be done, washing laundry, vacuuming, cleaning, cooking and ironing, always with my hot cup of tea next to me.

As the weather heats up and spring starts to show itself here and there, I am already enjoying fresh air, letting laundry dry naturally and not using the dryer as much.  Especially when it comes to sheets or comforters, I like to let them dry overnight, and Elliott quite enjoys his little forts where he hides underneath and springs out as anyone walks by.

I haven't done much reading, much tv watching much of anything actually.  I'm feeling frustrated and beyond tired of sitting in bed but I think we need to listen to our bodies and do what is needed.  I would be lying if I didn't say that I am so ready to feel 100% better though.

Anyway, I know there's not much to share but what little I did manage to get, I wanted to come in and put down in a post.

Now for the giveaway winner.  I am using a random generator online.  There were 16 comments, and the number that was picked was:

I will be contacting her shortly.  Congratulations!

Alright my friends, I wish I had more to share, but that is it for me.  I am feeling exhausted just sitting here at the computer, so back to bed I go, hopefully to get some sleep.

Have a wonderful blessed Thursday ♥

{ 20 Year Blogiversary and Giveaway }

Monday February 6, 2006

Well I finally did it, got my own blog!

What better way to have family and friends keep up to date on what is going on with us, than having a place where they can come to, right?!?!

Well at least that's my plan. I'm an Air Force Wife and stay at home mom to our wonderful children. Jasmine who is 6 years old and halfway through First Grade, and Nicholas who is 2 years old, but going on at least 10. Yeah, you see for the longest time I kept wondering when he would start talking, cause I would see all the other 2 year old's blabbling away, and then as if from night to day it happened.

Now there are days that we have to tell him to be quiet, cause he just won't stop. LOL
But that's ok, it's just another part of being a parent.

So, this is my plan. Have this online blog where I can come to every day and let everyone know what is going on back here in Potato Land.

20 years ago today, I made my very first blog post.  I was a young mom, with littles and needed a way to connect with other women on the same path that I was on.

I don't know how it happened, but I came upon blogs and was fascinated.  These women were my age, had children around the same age and they shared their lives, their recipes, their tips and tricks and their beautiful homes.   If they could do it, so could I, so I jumped in without a second thought, I had no clue what I was doing, where this was headed and I certainly did not think that I would be sitting here 20 years later, still typing, still sharing, still fumbling around life but with grown adult children and a completely different life, in a completely different State.

I have shared so much over the past twenty years.  So much has happened, so much has changed, I've changed, I've grown, I've learned so much and I feel tremendously blessed to have stuck with this blog for 20 years.  That is incredible if I do say so myself.

I know some of you have been around since the beginning, some have come in halfway and some are new readers.  To all of you welcome back, and thank you from the bottom of my heart for being here, for taking time out to comment, to read, share your thoughts with me.

Bible dated 1840

When I started this blog, I had no idea what God would have me do, and actually I wasn't very close to God at the time either.  We've had this back and forth kind of relationship since I got water baptized when I was around 15 years old.  Thankfully, when Covid came around, and certain things happened in our family, I pulled closer to Him and never let go.  The past few years as a devoted Christian woman of God have been some of the hardest, difficult, soul bearing years of my life, but also the most blessed, rewarding, saving, incredible too.  I would not change this for the world, so I am still here going along with His plan and His will and typing and posting and just letting Him lead me where He needs to.

I have known for a long time that God wanted me to use this platform as a way to encourage other women, young and old, to live a life that is glorifying to Him and to our families.  To bring home the fact that what we do as homemakers, as wives and mothers, is so important to Him.  We don't need to be ashamed of our lives, we don't need to hide the fact that we stay home, and we don't need to be intimidated by others success.  What we do is something to be proud of and admired.

Being a homemaker is monotonous, there is no lie in that, but how we approach our daily chores and ins and outs of running a home, is what matters.  Choose to love where you are planted, love your home, love your life, love the laundry and the dishes and the messy house, it means you have a family and a home and a life.

I don't know if I have managed to inspire others to see things this way, if I have managed to inspire others to love being a homemaker, to turn to God more, to spend more time doing what is probably starting to feel like lost arts such as crochet and knitting, to watch more mindful family oriented TV and not the trash we see.  My hope is that if I have done that for even just one person, then I have served my purpose with this blog.

In honor of my 20th year blog anniversary, I thought it would be fun to take a look back over the past twenty years.  I am just going to dive into the blog and pick out whatever pulls me from 2006 all through this year.  Shall we take a ride together?

A wagon ride at our local Pumpkin Patch in Idaho

A trip to the zoo in Boise, Idaho

My trip back home to South Africa, where my kids got to see where I grew up and meet their grandparents, greatgrandma, cousins and uncles and aunts

A trip to Sahuaro Ranch with my sweet mother in law and father in law

My brother Miguel and his family visited us in Arizona and we took a trip to Grand Canyon

Life in Arizona, Nick learned to ride a bike

Our yearly trip to Flagstaff for snow and the Christmas tree

Trip to the same Pumpkin patch we went to when we were first stationed at Mountain Home AFB, Idaho

Just a normal day in the life in Idaho

Another day in the life but just a year later in Texas

Just a slow day in the life, and a picture of my sweetest Lola

Shelling pecans, something I quite enjoy doing

A sweet review that produced the cutest family pictures, ones I will treasure forever

When I really started getting into gardening

Losing my mother in law was one of the hardest things for me

I just picked the first random post I saw, because 2021 is when we lost Marley, and I still can't bring myself to look at the posts that year.

A quiet Saturday

The year we finally got chickens and I was beside myself with happiness

A morning at the base dog park

The simple things I love

I loved looking back on my life here on the blog, the different houses, the way we have all grown up and changed, our moves, our lives in Idaho, Arizona and now Texas.  Our pets, the ones that have passed on and the ones that we have now.  Just everything is a part of who I am and who I have become and I wouldn't change that at all.

I think it's easy to think that we would rather not have gone through some of the losses and the difficult trials, but they're all lessons and they have made us stronger.

So, now that we've had a look back, and by the way if you want to read the posts those pictures are from, you can click on the dates and it will take you to the actual blog posts....but anyway, as I was about to say, I want to end again by expressing my utmost gratitude to each and every single one of you, you have made me feel so loved and appreciated and I couldn't imagine being on this 20 year blogging journey without you all.  I love you each and every one of you.

For the giveaway, I will run it for a week, will close it next week Friday.  I am not going to make you jump through hoops like some bloggers do, you don't have to go climb Mount Everest, or find an extinct fossil to be entered into the contest.

I just want to know if you are a blogger, how long you've been blogging, and what if anything you like about my blog that has kept you here for all these years.

The winner will be picked at random using a generator online, and will receive a package from me with tidbits that represent who I am and the things I love.

  • My favorite book
  • A candle
  • My favorite chocolate
  • Something to do with cooking and baking
  • A memento from Sheppard AFB
  • Something crocheted by me
  • And anything else I may think of to put in there

It's not much, but it's just a show of my love and appreciation for you all!

Contest is open to US only, I wish I could open it internationally but shipping would be crazy if I did.  Sorry my friends overseas.

Thank you again for stopping by and good luck ♥

{ Happy Blogiversary and a Giveaway }

11 years ago today, I sat at my computer and made the decision to start blogging.  I had been following a few blogs and was so in love with the whole idea of sharing our lives, our homes, our struggles as parents, our beautiful children, and being surrounded by like minded woman who were there to encourage us and to give us the motivation to keep going.

I wanted to be part of that community.

I still remember trying to pick between typepad (feels like eons ago when it was the big thing in blogging world), wordpress or blogger.  I didn't have the confidence with html or websites or internet or anything of that sort, so I chose blogger which was the easiest of the platforms.

That was a learning experience in itself, and I would take hours just trying to figure out templates, headings, post titles and fonts.  I loved it, still do, it is probably one of my favorite parts of the blogging process.

But I sat down at my desk and didn't know what to say.  That very first blog post on the 6th of February, 2006 was scary for me, I was nervous, I didn't know what to say and so I left it at "Well I finally did it, got my own blog".

My Jasmine was 6 years old, my Nick just 2.  Life was crazy and chaotic but some of my most fondest memories were forged in those days.

I often tell Curt that I miss our life in Mountain Home, when we lived on base and our kids were that little.  I miss the things we did, I miss the outings with the kids, watching them play and grow.  If I could go back in time, I would. :)

To think that I've now blogged for 11 years, is completely insane.  I never thought I would stick it out, there were moments when I wanted to quit because I had lost the motivation, the love, the want to blog.  I would sit in front of the screen and go completely blank, not knowing what to say or feeling like I had nothing going on worth sharing.

Truth is, my life has been documented on these pages, the good and the bad, and difficult times, the happy times, the moves from State to State and house to house.  I am so happy that I took the time to document these things because knowing that I can go back and look and reminisce is something I wouldn't trade for anything in the world.

I thought I would take a gander at summarizing my Februaries from 2006 all the way to 2017.  Maybe just a highlight picture of each month, but I am including below the links to all my February posts over the year, I've added them by month so if you want to look back in time and read my previous entries, just click year by year.  :)

I hope you enjoyed a little peek back through the years.  It's been such a blessing having this little corner of the web all to myself, and again I can't begin to express how happy I am to be back to my blogging.

With that said, I have to send out a very big thank you to each and every single one of you.  Those that have been following me from the very beginning, and those that have joined in throughout the years.  I truly do have the best readers, and have made some amazing friendships.

So I want to give back a little of the joy you've given me the past 11 years.

I'm going to hold a little giveaway.  I'm not quite sure yet what the winner will receive, but I have a few ideas.  It will have something that I crocheted and a few other bits and bobs.  I don't think it will ever be enough to thank you for everything, but it's a little gesture from me and I hope the winner will appreciate it :)

All I want you to do is leave me a comment, letting me know how long you've been reading my blog and if you remember, how you came across it.  That's all!!!

The contest will run until next Monday.  It is open to the US only, I wish I could open it to everywhere else, but right now that isn't possible.

Good luck friends, and again thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Here's to another 11 years and more :)
