Upcoming Period Dramas 2025

It is that time again.  I love a good period drama but haven't really had any to watch lately.  When that happens, I turn to some of my favorite online sites to get the scoop on all the upcoming period dramas, and so far this is what I've found.

Knowing that some of you are also period drama fans, I wanted to share the list so that you too can maybe find a new favorite, or anxiously anticipate them like I am.

I will remind you all that I do have a huge running list of period drama series, movies, documentaries and books, already available here on the blog.  So if you're looking for a fun watch, give those a peek first, I'm sure you will find something there that will interest you.

With that said, let's take a quick look at some of the upcoming series and movies that I am really looking forward to.

King and Conqueror
William of Normandy and Harold of Wessex were two individuals destined to meet at the Battle of Hastings in 1066; they were allies but had no claim to the British monarchy until fate drove them into a conflict over the country's crown.

Will be released this year probably around summer time.  Soon, I would expect, and will be shown on BBC and CBS.

The Narrow Road to the Deep North
Burma Railway in 1943 and across the Pacific during World War II, charts the cruelty of war, the tenuousness of life and the impossibility of love, as seen through the eyes of an Australian doctor and prisoner of war.

It is available to watch on Amazon Prime.

Outlander: Blood of my Blood
The prequel series that connects to the main "Outlander" series by exploring the love stories of Jamie Fraser and Claire Beauchamp's parents. It's essentially a story of the generation preceding Jamie and Claire, providing a glimpse into their familial history.

Will be out August 8 and I am sooooo, sooooo looking forward to this one.

Chief of War
Set amidst the beautiful backdrop of the islands of Hawai‘i, the nine-episode series, based on true events, follows warrior Ka‘iana, portrayed by Momoa, as he tries to unify the islands before Western colonization in the late 18th century.

Will be releasing August 1st, on Apple Tv.

2025 seems to be a bit of a quiet year for period dramas, but I think there are still a few to look forward to.  What are you currently watching?  Do you have any upcoming favorites?

Yarn Along

IMG_9168

In this week's Yarn Along, I have been working on a new granny square blanket.  I was going to do tiny squares, about 3 rounds each, but quickly decided against it.  I am the kind of crocheter that loves the craft, but if I have to make too many of a specific pattern, I quickly get bored.

I opted for larger squares.  I'm going for a Cath Kidston inspired color palette, as I often do, and so far I am just loving the quick way these work up and it's also a mindless thing that I can work on while watching TV.

As for a physical book, I am currently reading Measure of Devotion by Nell Joslin.  I will be doing a review on it this coming Friday, so if you're interested keep an eye out for that.  This novel is set during the Civil War, which makes it a fascinating read for me.  Really liking it and can't wait to tell you all about it.

IMG_9167

On my Kindle I am reading The Watchmaker's Daughter by C.J. Archer.  I found it for free on Kindle and downloaded it.  I'm not too far in but I can already tell that I'm going to enjoy this one as well.

Bible Recap Reading Update

IMG_9166

I have now been doing the Bible Recap daily reading, since January, every day, I think I only had one day where I didn't read the daily prompt, but caught up immediately the following morning.

I just thought I would come in a do a quick update, mainly for my own record, and to leave it registered here on the blog.

Do I absolutely love the Bible Recap?  I would have to say, no.  Not because I don't think it's a great program to follow, but the problem I run into is that I am a mood reader, and don't always enjoy following a strict schedule.

There have been days that I have zipped right through the daily passages and there are days that it has been difficult, to say the least.  Some days have one or two smallish verses and then there are days that there are 6 or 7 super long ones.  It tends to distract me, and I sometimes find my mind drifting, which is not something I want to do when reading the Bible.

For the sake of complete honesty, the old testament books I very dry and often boring to get through, especially when it comes to numbers and tribes and things of that sort, and yes, I've read them all before, so when they do pop up again, I cringe a little.

Will I finish the Bible Recap for the year?  Yes, I won't leave it halfway.
Will I do it again next year?  Definitely not.
Will I do it again in the future?  I'm sure I will, but maybe in 2 or 3 years time.

I know some of you are also doing the Bible Recap or have done it in the past, and I'm in no way, shape or form, saying that it's not a good yearly Bible program to follow, but it's just not for me, and my style of reading.  Now, it may change as I continue, I may start really enjoying it, but at the moment, I am finding it a bit hard to stick with it, and often want to go read something else in the Bible.

Happy Homemaker Monday - 05/26/2025

Good morning sweet ladies, and welcome back to my little corner of blogland.

It is a very rainy start to the week, signaling just the kind of weather we will be dealing with over the next few days.  I love a good rain fall, I don't however like high winds and tornadoes, as you may already know.  Just praying the craziness of the storms stays far away from us.

I have a pretty calm week ahead, culminating with my yearly mammogram on Friday morning.  That, I am not looking forward to at all, it's always an anxious day for me, the whole process from driving to the hospital, to the exam and then driving home and waiting for the results.  It's almost like you hold your breath the whole time.  Hate that feeling, but it must be done.

Right, it is Memorial Day so I want to start by wishing you all a great day with your families.  Please remember what this day means and why it is celebrated.

Now, let's get on with our Happy Homemaker Monday post.  Have a blessed week friends!

The weather:::
It's been so warm, we actually hit 100 the other day.  Way too early for this kind of heat.  We are back to rainy, stormy days over the week ahead.  It's currently pouring it down outside, bright lightning and strong winds as well.

Monday - Morning Thunderstorms, 75
Tuesday - Partly cloudy, 78
Wednesday - Partly cloudy, 80
Thursday - Morning Thunderstorms, 75
Friday - Partly cloudy, 80
Saturday - Partly cloudy, 86
Sunday - Mostly sunny, 89

As I look outside my window:::
It is still pitch black outside.  I have my back patio door open and only the screen door closed.  I can hear the strong winds blowing out there, and very soft rain coming down.  I actually need to go let the chickens out, but am waiting for the wind and rain to die down.

Right now I am:::
Sitting in the living room and working on this post.  Also talking to my stepmom through voice message.

Something fun to share (a blog, a video, a tip):::
I love vintage anything, and I follow quite a few channels on YouTube.  I just enjoy watching them so much.  I found one recently that I've been enjoying and thought you may enjoy it as well.  Arietta lives in Greece and shares the sweetest videos.  Hope you enjoy her channel as well ♥

Thinking and pondering:::
Have a lot on my mind, some family things going on.  Not directly connected to us, but with family members.

My simple pleasure:::
Being up super early on the weekends, and getting to sit in the living room, alone, in the quiet, while enjoying my cup of coffee.

Looking around the house:::
It is quiet, everyone is still asleep.  The back door is open letting in the morning fresh air, and the chirping of the birds.

A busy Saturday

Kitchen flowers

The past few weeks have been full on.  It always seems that the lead up to summer is crazy busy, lots of last minute things, get togethers or whatever.

We've had family over this Saturday, visiting from Oklahoma.  Nothing big but just a small get together for some catch up chats, games and finger foods.

It's been a day.  I am so tired and so ready for a rest.  We are hoping to take Sunday off to just relax, aside from going to the gym and church, nothing else.  It's something both Curt and I have wanted and needed for the past month and a half, where every weekend has been a busy one.

Anyway, I am crawling into bed, I have a headache, my feet hurt and it's time to get some rest.

Cooking Thursday - Massa de Pimentao

 It's one of those things that is often used in Portuguese cooking, or at least for me. I find that it's the best marinade for not only pork but beef, chicken and even fish.

You can find it at the store but I've always made it at home, it's simple and it's really good too and I'm a huge believer in that if I can make it at home and see what I'm actually putting into it, I would rather do that :)

Massa de Pimentao

Massa de Pimentao - Roasted Red Pepper Paste

4 large red peppers
100 ml olive oil (that's about 1/2 cup)
10 garlic cloves
1 teaspoon salt (you can add more or less according to your taste)

First I start by roasting the red peppers, all I do is line a baking pan with foil, wash the red peppers well, then lay them on their side.

Massa de Pimentao

I turn the oven to 400 degrees, set the timer for 15 minutes and start roasting. After 15 minutes, I take my tongs and turn the pepper about 1/4 turn.

Massa de Pimentao

Pop back in for another 15 minutes and I keep doing that until it's nice and soft with black charred skin.

I remove them from the oven and let them cool down on the baking sheet. Once cool, remove all the skin, open them up and remove the seeds too. Set aside.

Massa de Pimentao

Pat them dry with a paper towel to remove any excess liquid.

Then pop them into a blender, add the olive oil, garlic cloves and salt and blend until smooth.

Massa de Pimentao

Pour into a mason jar and add a bit of olive oil on top to cover, it will help keep it from going moldy and will also preserve it longer :)

Hand painted pots

IMG_9157

IMG_9158

Hand painted clay pots!

I am not a painter or artist, as is clearly seen from my very wonky flowers, but I love trying new things, and I must say that this project was so much fun to do.

I sat by my big window, overlooking the trees, and just randomly used the paintbrushes to try and create some sort of flowers.  They're not perfect, but neither am I so, I think they're a great representation of myself.

I do have a few more to work on, and I'm not sure exactly what I will do.  I'm thinking lemons, strawberries, ladybugs, more random flowers?  Who knows!

Happy Homemaker Monday - 05/19/2025

Good morning ladies.  Happy Monday!

Can we just a moment to think about the fact that we are practically heading to the end of this month already?  What is happening?  Why is time seemingly moving even faster than usual, or is it just me?

Anyway, it is Monday morning, actually one of my favorite days of the week if you can believe that.  I know, I might sound insane saying it, but there's something about the first day of a new week that always makes me happy.  Truth be told, by Wednesday I am so ready for the weekend to arrive again, but you know.....you knowwww!

Right, let's not waste anymore time and let's move right on with today's post.

Have a blessed week friends ♥

The weather in:::
It's been warm, and sunny, and unfortunately for the past two days.....windy!  Can I just say that I absolutely loathe wind?  I just hate it so much.  It's destructive and annoying and kicks up my allergies, and not needed, in my humble opinion.

Monday - Scattered Thunderstorms, 90
Tuesday - Sunny, 83
Wednesday - Mostly Sunny, 92
Thursday - Mostly Sunny, 83
Friday - Mostly Sunny, 88
Saturday - Mostly Sunny, 94
Sunday - Thunderstorms, 92

As I look outside my window:::
The sun is trying desperately to peek through the dark clouds.  The wind is ridiculous, the poor trees are waving violently back and forth, but, there's always a silver lining, and that is the sheer beauty of everything green around us.  The trees, the grass, all the plants and flowers and vegetables are glorious right now.

Right now I am:::
Sitting in bed typing up this post, and on the television I'm watching random YouTube videos from my subscription list.

Something fun to share (a blog, a video, a tip):::
I have to share with you a super fun free app for your phone.  I am so glad I found it, randomly while watching a video from someone in England.  I thought it may not work for us here in the US but it did.

It is called Merlin and if you love birds, you are going to love this app.  It is a Bird ID created by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, in an attempt to help identify the birds we hear around us.  It will identify the birds we see or hear.  I use it mainly for the sounds and it is brilliant, you're going to love it as much as I do.

So it's free, you sign up, and then enter the location of where you are, and then just hit the record button.  As you walk around your backyard or anywhere outside, really, it picks up the birds chirping and tells you exactly which bird it is.  It's just incredible, I can't talk about it enough, it's changed the way I enjoy nature around me.  You can download it for the Iphone or Android and it works globally, so anywhere in the world.  Give it a try and let me know what you think!

Here is a little video showing you how it work.

Thinking and pondering:::
Just about what all we have going on this week.  Curt turns 52 on Thursday, and then Saturday we have family coming over for a Memorial weekend get together.  I also have grocery shopping to do this week, and we have to finish putting the new shed together for the new chickens, so a lot going on.

On my bedside table:::
Water bottle, tv remote and my bowl of oatmeal which I just made, took 2 bites and my body has decided it does not want it.  I hate wasting food, but I really just can't stomach it today.  (It is the first day of my cycle, and I tend to not each much this week)

On my tv:::
Homemaking vlogs
Book vlogs
More period dramas.

Listening to:::
The YouTube video on the television.

On the menu for this week:::
I honestly don't know.  I need to work on the new meal plan for the next two weeks.

Monday - Pork Cebolada, Mashed Potatoes, Zucchini in tomato sauce
Tuesday - Falafel Pitas, Oven Sweet Potato Wedges
Wednesday
Thursday -
Friday -
Saturday - Finger foods and snacks
Sunday - Ono's Hawaiian Chicken, Macaroni Salad

On my to do list:::
Change Bed linens
Water plants
Daily Bible reading and daily decree
Daily 10k steps

What I am sewing, crocheting, knitting or creating:::
I am slowly working on my crochet Star Blanket.  I finished my Jane Austen puzzle and now need to get it framed and all that stuff.

I also have been working on some hand painted pots for my herbs.

My simple pleasure:::
Being creative.  Making something, working with my hands and creating things out of nothing.  I get so much joy from that.

Looking around the house:::
Needs the usual Monday morning clean and tidy.  I love this Monday morning reset, it just helps get the week off on the right foot.

From the camera:::
Clay pots and acrylic paints, just waiting to be joined into a sweet project.

Bible verse, Devotional:::
Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise:  give thanks to Him and praise His name. - Psalms 100:4

Saturday

May 17, 2025

Saturdays mean gym morning session, so I try to get all my chores done before I even head out, because I know that when I return, I want to take my shower and relax.  It drains me!

So breakfast dishes, starting more laundry, tidying the house, opening windows, fluffing pillows and folding blankets, etc.

May 17, 2025

May 17, 2025

I actually remembered to grab my camera this morning, just to try and snap some pictures of the surrounding area.  We have many farms around us and always seem to be surrounded by cows and horses.

Of course today, since I had my camera out, there was not many in sight.  hahahah

Cozy Spring Activities

May 16, 2025

I have been blessed with a creative mind, and usually any hobby I tackle, I end up enjoying and doing well in.  Of course, there are some that I don't much care for, or turned out not to be what I thought it would.  But overall, you can describe me as a creative person.

I love creating, thinking, working with my hands, making things for the home, and mostly just relaxing with a fun cozy activity.

The past few weeks, I have really embraced Spring and ways to romanticize the season.

I have been doing a puzzle, which I finished yesterday and am already thinking about picking up another.  I have also gathered some simple materials to create handmade or rather, hand painted flower pots.  It's such a simple thing to do, and you don't need to be an artist or a perfectionist to create cute little pots with your personal touch.

May 16, 2025

The small clay pots are a little over a dollar and the acrylic paint I already had on hand.  The tiny brushes are super cheap too, like $2.

I have never painted by hand, and to be honest, I am a little intimidated, but I keep telling myself that it doesn't matter, it's for me, it's just going to be a fun little project and it doesn't need to be perfect.  Can't wait to see what they look like.  I have two to work on.  I'll be sure to show you either this weekend or next week.

Spend the day with me

May 15, 2025

The morning sun seeps in through the window.  The curtain shifts slightly with the breeze, and the sound of birds chirping waft in, saying good morning, welcome the new day ahead.

I used to rush out bed every morning when my kids were little, but now that they are grown and have their own lives, I have taken to slower mornings.  I like to take my time, to slowly wake up, to move my body gently instead of hitting the ground running.  It sets the tone for a slow, relaxed, and go with the flow kind of day.

:::: MORNING ::::
Making the bed is a first thing for me.  I don't know, but if I don't make my bed first, I feel like my day doesn't run as smoothly, plus I believe that if your bed is made, the whole house seems to be neat and tidy.

That makes absolutely zero sense, but in my brain it does.

May 15, 2025

Once the bed is made, I will get ready for the day while listening to my Bible reading for the day.  I used to read the physical Bible and I still love doing it, but I find it much easier to use my Bible Youversion app, and to just pop it on while I'm getting ready.

Breakfast is always around 8 or 9.  I stop eating the night before, around 5pm, so by 8 or 9 I am starving and I've done a good intermittent fast.  Oatmeal, or toast, weetabix, a keto pancake, or eggs are my go to.

May 15, 2025

After eating, I usually will start a load of laundry, and then move onto the dishes.  I wash the dinner dishes the night before, but will usually leave pots and pans soaking overnight, and there has been the occasion where I rinse the dishes from dinner, pop them in the sink with hot soapy water and leave them until the morning.

It's something I would never do before, but I have found that as I've gotten older, there are certain homemaking chores that I don't mind slacking off on *so to speak*.  The dishes will still be there in the morning, and I sometimes prefer to go have a cup of tea and play a game with the family, rather than sit at the sink.

I also, really, really enjoy doing the dishes in the morning, while listening to the birds.  I have a beautiful view from my kitchen window which helps as well.

May 15, 2025

May 15, 2025

Once the kitchen is put in order, I will move into the rest of the house.  Today meant dusting and giving all the wood surfaces a good clean.  I absolutely love using Orange Glo for that.  Love the way it leaves everything shiny and smelling like fresh cut oranges.

May 15, 2025

May 15, 2025

Living in the country means that there is always outside work to be done.  Whether it's our property, or the neighbors across the street, or down the road.  Someone is constantly mowing, weeding, planting, taking care of animals and so on.

May 15, 2025

May 15, 2025
Spring and summer mean that every morning, I am watering all our container plants.  We have yet to put anything in the ground, opting for container gardening instead.  Although, I do plan to get some flowers planted out in the backyard, but that will have to wait until next weekend, as this weekend we are focused on finishing the area for the new flock of chickens, and getting them outside.

:::: AFTERNOON ::::
Lunch today consisted of a honey vanilla greek yogurt with some homemade granola and frozen blueberries.

Some days I have leftovers, usually the protein and salad or whatever vegetables I have, and some days I opt for yogurt.  It's already so hot around here, that it felt like the perfect thing to enjoy.

May 15, 2025
Laundry is never ending isn't it?  Today I had tow loads to get through, plus some kitchen towels and bed sheets.

I don't iron everything, though I did grow up ironing every single item of clothing.  I think the difference is that we didn't use dryers growing up, so clothes definitely needed some help after sitting out on the clothesline.  I find that if you use a dryer and immediately take them out after they're finished the drying cycle, and fold, they don't usually need it.

But there are some items that I still prefer to iron, so that was on the agenda today.

While I iron I like to watch a movie, and I have been back on my period drama kick.  I've watched some very good ones lately.  For today, I chose to watch To Walk Invisible, which is the story of the Bronte Sisters.  So good.  I had recently read Romancing Miss Bronte and loved it, so this was almost like watching the book in action.  Highly recommend both the book and the tv show.

May 15, 2025

May 15, 2025

I have also been really enjoying my quiet afternoons. I get my 10k steps in and do my daily exercise, then I am rewarded with something fun to do, and the past week, it has been my Jane Austen puzzle.

I have always loved puzzles but hadn't done one in a really long time.  I had almost forgotten how therapeutic and calming they are.  I get lost in the puzzle pieces, just sitting quietly by my bedroom window, with the window open, listening to the wildlife outside and working away.

May 15, 2025

May 15, 2025

I am also deeply engrossed in a new book series about the Civil War.  I had never heard of this author, and happened upon her books at the store that was going out of business.
I've already read through the first and am in the second.  They are 4 in total, and I am absolutely loving every second.  I love the setting, I love the era, I love learning more about the Civil War and I love every character in the story.
If you're wondering what series I am reading, it is the Shadowcreek Chronicles by Elizabeth T. Renich.

May 15, 2025

:::: EVENING ::::
As the evening rolls around, time seems to quicken and I become quite busy, between preparing dinner, setting the table, and getting things ready for the next day.

Tonight for dinner, I made a delicious sausage rice, a dish that my great grandmother used to make for us.  It's a great way to serve up a filling homecooked meal and also use up whatever sausage you may have.  I have used smoked sausage, I've used hotdogs and today I am using a Kielbasa sausage that I had in the freezer and needed to use up.

I love using what I have on hand, and I find that sometimes I deviate from my meal plan because I want to use leftovers or whatever is sitting in the fridge needing attention.

I didn't want to eat the carbs in the rice though, so for myself, I had some leftover Bean salad in the fridge from the night before, which I added a can of tuna to, and 2 boiled eggs, and made a quick and delicious tuna salad.

May 15, 2025

Once dinner is done, I get the dishes sorted out and the table clear, clean the kitchen and end the day by setting the coffee machine for the next morning.

We get up at 4:30am, so it's always wonderful to wake up to the smell of coffee brewing.

May 15, 2025

May 15, 2025

The last thing I do each night, is to get the leftovers in the fridge, make sure everything looks tidy and not chaotic, as we know a kitchen often gets during meal times, then I head to my bedroom.

I will usually have my shower, and then either watch some tv, read or crochet and end the day with a sense of accomplishment.

My days tend to be a very slight variation of each other, unless there is a place to go, or an appointment or grocery shopping, they tend to be pretty much the same routine, and I'm ok with that.

I hope you've enjoyed spending the day with me, as I have surely enjoyed sharing it with you.
