State Testing and a little sewing.....

I was supposed to come in and do a little post yesterday but I really didn't get a chance to even touch my laptop, other than some schooling with the kids.

We're doing State testing this week and it's been a bit crazy running from here to there.  The kids need to be there by 8:30am, so I've been dropping them off, coming back home to do some housework and a little packing and then back out at 11:30am to take them some lunch, back home and then back again to pick them up when they're done.

I swear I've driven more the past few months that my husband has been gone, than my whole lifetime.  Do you like driving?  I think I'm one of the few people who don't really like it, I mean it gets me from here to there and I'll do it, but it's not something I'll go out of my way to do and I much prefer the hubby to drive when we all go out somewhere together.

Anyway, yes, testing is underway but we should be done today.

In the middle of all this craziness, I took some time to do a little sewing.  If you follow me on Instagram then I'm sure you saw the pictures.

I'm taking Jasmine to an Anime Convention at the end of May and she is Cosplaying.  If you don't know what Cosplay is, it's simply the act of dressing up as one of your favorite characters from either a tv show, movie, game etc.

She has decided to Cosplay Mabel from Gravity Falls, and her boyfriend will be Dipper.  I can't wait to see that LOL

In about an hour, I made her a very simple elastic waist skirt, and also sewed on the rainbow and star on the pink top she is using.

She looks adorable if I do say so myself.

Honestly, I hadn't picked up my sewing machine in a very long time, I think last year was the last time I really did anything with it.  I had forgotten how calming and therapeutic sewing is for me, boy did I enjoy those moments just sewing away.

If I wasn't moving so soon, I would have left the machine out and made a few more things, but it will have to wait until I get to Texas.

Yesterday was also Zumba day, we go every Tuesday and Thursday.  Jasmine didn't want to go at first but is now just as obsessed with it as I am and I will have to find some Zumba classes where we're headed or I may just cry.

Honestly, it's something that we do as a mother and daughter, and we absolutely love it :)

Right, this post is going to be super short because I need to get the kids up and ready for testing, and I may need to change into something other than a nightgown, I don't think the teachers would appreciate me showing up like that.  Haha

Wishing you all the best Wednesday ever :)

Happy Homemaker Monday - 04/27/2015

Good morning folks, hope you've all had a great weekend and are ready for the week ahead.  I have quite a bit going on with State testing this week and more packing and getting ready for the move.

For now though, let's just concentrate on our Happy Homemaker Monday :)

The weather outside is::::
36 degrees right now and quite nippy, went to take the dogs out to potty and had to grab a coat.  We're supposed to get up to 69 degrees today and tomorrow even hit 80 so I'm looking forward to that.  It's quite pretty outside at the moment, very clear blue skies :)

On the breakfast plate this morning::::
Coffee with Vanilla Creamer and a cheese and salami sandwich.

As I look outside my window:::
I see blue skies, birds flying by and some cars driving on by.  It looks like it's going to be a really pretty day.

Right now I am::::
On the couch with Lola, working on this post, have a couple of tabs open on the laptop and trying to juggle a few things at once.  Still in my pj's, I do need to get dressed for the day but it's quite early still, so I'll just wait for now.

As I look around the house::::
More and more boxes.  I packed up the upstairs hallway last night, and quite a bit in the bedroom too.  Have to tackle the kid's rooms this week and really get on the ball as we're running out of time.  Would be so much easier if I had the trailer already to pack things into.

On today's to do list::::

Cleaning
Homeschooling
Packing

Grocery shopping, housework and menu plan!

_MG_8939

3pm and I'm finally sitting down for the first time today.  I have a cup of coffee, I have a two huge baskets of clean laundry needing folding and I'm watching some vlogs, catching up on some shows and all that stuff while I get this folding done.

With the magic of blogging, the laundry is all folded and ready to go up the stairs to the individual bedrooms.

Tell you what, one thing I've asked my husband to keep on the house hunting list in Texas, is one without stairs.  I'm quite tired of hauling laundry baskets up and down and am ready to be back on a single level.

This morning I got my menu planning finished, and then made up a quick grocery list and headed to base to the commissary.

Thankfully it was very quiet, not many people in there which is always a good thing, and I was able to get my shopping done in a relaxed and calm manner.

My shopping cart is driving me insane in this pic.  I am one that has to have things neatly put in the cart and when I see someone walk by with everything just thrown in there, it makes me cringe.  Don't know why, it just drives me nuts.

Funny thing is, the cart was actually packed neatly, the bags on top are dog treats which I had just thrown in, but it does make it all look messy.  Ugh, now if I can just get my eye to stop twitching.

Sometimes I remember when I had to take two toddlers with me and what a crazy shopping trip that was, any time Curt was home and I was able to go alone, it felt like a treat.  You moms know exactly what I'm talking about don't you?

Back home, I got everything put away, took me a bit as it always does.  I did notice as I was putting things up, that my poor pantry is in desperate need of reorganizing.  With us moving in about 3 weeks though, I think I may just start packing things in boxes and leave out only the bare essentials.

_MG_8941

So here's the menu plan for the upcoming weeks, leading up to the move. I don't plan on doing a big grocery shop again after this one as I need to make sure I get rid of everything in the fridge and freezer, so our meals the last week or two will be extremely easy and simple.

Monday 27th  -  Shredded Pork Tenderloin Sandwiches, Salad
Tuesday 28th  -  Biscuits and Gravy, Scrambled Eggs
Wednesday 29th  -  Pizza
Thursday 30th  -    Chicken and Rice
Friday 1st May  -  Quesadillas, Mexican Rice
Saturday 2nd  -  Shepherd's Pie
Sunday 3rd  -  Chili Dogs
Monday 4th  -  Waffles and Bacon
Tuesday 5th  -  Barbecue Chicken, Mac and Cheese
Wednesday 6th  -  One pot pasta
Thursday 7th  -  Grilled Cheese, Ham, Tomato and Avocado with Homemade Fries
Friday 8th  -  Garlic and Brown Sugar Chicken, Rice
Saturday 9th  -  Sloppy Joes
Sunday 10th  -  Nachos
Monday 11th  -  Clam Chowder, Sandwiches
Tuesday 12th  -  Smoke House Burgers, Fries
Wednesday 13th  -  Smoked Sausage and Potatoes

Around the 13th, I will go to the grocery store and pick up some last minute easy meals for us as the moving trailer will be delivered the next Monday.  It will be things like Ramen, Frozen Pizza, hotdogs and a McDonald's meal the night before we leave.

One thing I will be doing is working on a Menu Plan for when I do get to Texas.  My poor husband has missed my cooking terribly and truth be told, I can't wait to get in there and cook again for the whole family.

Did I tell you that when I get to Texas around the 25th of May and the 26th of May I'm back on the road with Jasmine on the way to Atlanta? I guess that's another post all on it's own, but I'll tell you all about it another time.

_MG_8944

So aside from the usual housework, dishes etc, and the laundry, the grocery shopping and so forth, I've had a pretty quiet and relaxed Sunday.  I'm currently sitting on the couch and watching Kisha Jaggers on Youtube, I love her vlogs.

I need to catch up on Reign too, When Calls the Heart which returned last night, still want to watch A Bone to Pick and The Lizzie Borden Series and so on.  Have quite a few shows on the list, just have to pick one and go from there.

It's very windy here today, I mean, strong enough that I had to keep a firm hand on the steering wheel while driving.

_MG_8951

Nonetheless I stepped out back for a few with the camera and watched these two squirrels going about their business, walking along my fence and stopping at times to just stare.

_MG_8948

_MG_8953

It's now just after 5pm and I'm going to get out the leftovers for dinner, we have some Lasagna from Jasmine's birthday last night, and I also picked up some Chalupas from Taco Bell for the kids earlier so no need for me to cook anything.

Hope you are all having a wonderful Sunday.  I have to tell you that I'm so glad to be back posting on my blog, it's made me feel so much better.

Thank you as well for the comments, I haven't had a chance to go say hi on your own blogs, but I do hope to get to it very soon.  :)

Sweet Sixteen!

Let's see if I can get through this post without shedding a couple of tears.

My friends, it's finally here, my daughter turns 16 today and I am feeling extremely emotional.  This beautiful little red head that was placed in my arms and made me a mother for the first time, is now this gorgeous independent, self assured 16 year old young woman and I don't quite know how to handle that.

Proud doesn't even come close to what I feel for this child.

She hasn't always been the easiest to raise, truth be told, her strong personality and her stubbornness are traits which I admire but also detest at times.  She's a handful to be sure.

But, she is also the sweetest and kindest, and funniest, loving, honest, trustworthy, big hearted, sensitive girl I've ever come across and I couldn't have asked for a better daughter.

16 is a huge milestone, it's that big step towards womanhood, it opens up a whole new set of responsibilities and gets her one step closer to graduating and being out of the house.

As a mom I want to hold on to her for the rest of my life, I don't want to let her go, I want to continue picking her up when she falls, cradling her in my arms or rocking her to sleep when she's not feeling well.

I kept thinking that I wouldn't be able to do that anymore now that she's a young lady, but truth is, I can, it is just different in the way I am there for her.

I've sat with her when she was hurting, I've held her in my arms when she had a fight with her boyfriend, I've nursed her back to health when she wasn't feeling well, I've helped her with school work, I've talked to her for hours about everything and anything, we've shared laughs, and she's held me up when I'm down.

I know some moms cringe at the word friend and believe you should never be your children's friend, only their mom.  I happen to believe the opposite, I don't think you need to not be their friend to be a good mother.  Thankfully I am both to this gorgeous girl and I wouldn't have it any other way.

 https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xta1/v/t1.0-9/11150414_10153303942803395_5396335937747619653_n.jpg?oh=4f572233afd7b0481ddd1abe3a1fe54b&oe=55D008AF&__gda__=1439596770_c914dfad468a615d6e655e7c0e87c4e0

So, here we are, 16 years old, with the whole world before her and I am so happy that I get a front row seat to watch it all unfold.

For now though, I'm going to sit and cry a little because I can't believe she's actually this old.

Happy Birthday Jasmine, I love you with every fiber of my being and I'm so proud of the young woman you've become.  :)

Let's get back on track, shall we?

Sunset

Hi everyone, did you miss me?

Well I have decided that it's time to get back on track here on my little blog.

Some of you may think I've lost my mind because right now, this very moment is not exactly the calmest in my life, it's actually the craziest and I'm spread very very thin.  But I think it's also the reason why I need to get back on here and document my every day before the move.

The move.....less than a month away, is quickly approaching and I'm scrambling folks, I feel like there is so much I need to get done and so little time to do it in.  Sometimes the overwhelming feeling creeps in and I panic, like for a hot second, but then I get myself back on track, or I try to at least.

I'm needing to post on my blog, I'm needing to feel grounded and normal and like I have a place to put all my feelings and emotions, and it will also be a great way for me to wind down the last few weeks here in Idaho, because truthfully, as much as I love this State I doubt I'll be back.

So, pictures of my day, thoughts, what I'm doing, what I've done, what is happening around me and even what is happening down in Texas with my hubby.  I'll try to update as much as I can, I mean there are days that nothing is really going on, but even then, I will be here, saying hi.

I'm trying to think what has happened that I haven't told you about, I guess quite a bit.

Lola::::::  Last week Saturday, I had my niece and nephew over for a sleep over, we watched a really scary movie, one I didn't even know about until I ran across it on a movie site.  It's called The Atticus Institute and my word, it was so scary.  It is based on a true story, the only US Government officially documented and accepted possession case.

We were up until late, I think like 1am, and then I headed to bed.  Was woken up at 3am with Lola having a seizure, and you know me, I always get freaked out with those.  After calming her down and getting back into bed, she woke me up again at 4:10am with another seizure.  By this time my nerves were just shot and I didn't want to go back to bed, so I made myself a cup of coffee and lay on the couch with her.

Lola

Thing is, every little movement from her had me jumping and scared that she was seizing again.  I thought everything was fine, but by 10am she had another so I took her to the vet.  After blood work was done, which came back normal, by the way, he thinks that she may be epileptic and has put her on Phenobarbital.

Not what I wanted to hear but you know for our children and our pets, we do everything, and $300 later I was back home.  She was actually given Valium to sedate her so she wouldn't have any more seizures and I started her on the medication right away.

What I did notice the past few days was that she was not herself, I think the Phenobarbital dose he gave was quite high for her so she seemed almost lethargic and sleepy constantly, it even affected her breathing.

I've now cut her down to half of the dose after speaking with the vet again and she is back to her normal self.  Please keep her in your prayers, if you will :)

Move::::::  I've been packing as I can, a little here and there and it's coming along nicely.  This weekend I will actually pack up Nick's room, save for his clothes, and I also want to try and start on Jasmine's.  Things move so much more smoothly when you have time to prepare and pack for a move.

Schooling::::::  is coming along, next week we have State Testing Tuesday and Wednesday and on top of that, we have Scantron Tests and the normal school work, which I don't know about you all, but it seems to just pile on right at the end of the year.  The amount of essays, research papers, presentations and speeches that these kids have to do, is absolutely ridiculous.  But we'll get there :)

Meals::::::   have been very simple with just the kids and I, I actually miss cooking.  I have cooked a few things here and there but for the most part, we're all about the really simple meals.

Like.....Challah French Toast.  So good.

Challah French Toast

Food blog::::::   Oh my goodness, I've actually had some emails asking if I've stopped the blog completely.  The answer is no, not on purpose but I definitely need to get in there and post some recipes.

I may do that tonight, I have quite a few on hold.

Crochet

Crochet::::::  Oh I miss it, oh my word do I miss it.  I was packing up my yarn the other day and I wanted to cry because I've done nothing with it for so long.  So I plan on keeping some out and getting back into hooking.

Gardening::::::  Things are still growing around here, my lettuce that I kind of placed out on the back porch and forgot about during the winter, is now coming back full force.  I'm quite excited about that.

My onions are sprouting like nuts.  Remember that big 50 pound bag of potatoes and onions I bought a few months back?  I've only now finished the potatoes and the onions I still have quite a few of, but some started sprouting.

I'm fine with that because I use them as Green Onions and just keep clipping and they keep growing.

Onions

Right, I think I've covered pretty much what has been going on around here, I'm sure by the time I close off this post I'll think of something else though, it's always like that :)

In the spirit of restarting the blog etc, I've also updated the template, which I'm sure you noticed when you happened upon this post.

Now, I'm off to take a nice long hot bath as I seem to be sick with a cold, I've had my fan in the bedroom on for a few days because Lola was overheating easily, what it's done though is that today I woke up with a bit of a chest cold, headache and congested and then had to run errands and got rained on.  By the time I got home I was really not feeling well and running a low grade fever.

I'm ready to just take a bath, put on some comfy pj's, make some coffee, grab my crochet and pop in a good movie or catch up on my youtube vlogs.

Hope you're all having a fantastic Friday and looking forward to the weekend.

Blessings,
Sandra

Happy Homemaker Monday - 04/20/2015

Good morning friends, sure hope you're doing well on this gorgeous Monday morning.  I had a not very good weekend with my Lola, very stressed and feeling like I'm reaching my breaking point.  But, that is all for another post.

Let's get on with our Happy Homemaker Monday, shall we?

The weather outside is::::
Currently it's 40 degrees with a high of 74 today.  We had such beautiful weather this weekend, nice and warm and it really feels like Spring, finally.

On the breakfast plate this morning::::
Coffee with Almond Joy Creamer and a Raspberry filled donut.  I'm feeling a little rebellious, but to be fair, I'm kind of needing a little pick me up.

As I look outside my window:::
My lawn is needing mowing, but the sweet neighbors across the street are coming over to do it this morning.  I didn't ask, but they know Curt is away at the moment and offered, which I found very kind on their part.  Greatful for good neighbors.

Right now I am::::
On the couch with Lola, writing up this post and mentally planning my day.  We are less than 4 weeks away from when the trailer is dropped off and I have to really get my packing into gear.

As I look around the house::::
Nothing new to say here, the moving stage of any home is not that exciting is it?  Boxes packed and unpacked are laying around, piles of items are seen in corners ready to be moved to the garage for easier packing.  The house is starting to look empty and it's sad in a way, but so very exciting in another.

On today's to do list::::

Cleaning
Homeschooling
Packing
Listing some items on the classifieds for sale

Currently reading::::
Finished Running Fire and just have to get the review up.

On the TV today::::

Thursday - Tuna Salad (Zumba night)

Saturday - Jasmine's Birthday
Sunday - Salisbury Steak, Mashed Potatoes

With everything that has been going on, I've been literally hanging on by thread, my wonderful daughter who loves cooking decided to make a very simple quick dinner.  She made this amazing garlic italian pasta which was delicious......and she called me to the table and this is what I saw.  Made me cry.  I love her.

Happy Homemaker Monday - 04/13/2015

Good morning, here we are for another Happy Homemaker Monday.

I really need to thank all of you who still come in and post your links every Monday, you have no idea how much I appreciate it :)  So thank you, really.

The weather outside is::::
Currently it's 43 degrees with a high of 78 today.  I'm so looking forward to that, I can't even begin to tell you.

On the breakfast plate this morning::::
Coffee and two pieces of toast with butter.  I've switched back to just water during the day and the pounds have started coming of, thrilled with that :)

As I look outside my window:::
The grass is sooooo green, but also in need of mowing again.  I ran out of gas in the mower last week and ended up only being able to mow half the back yard.  Have to get gas today and do the back and front, oh and I also need to get a spool for my weed eater so I can do the flower beds.  It's a beautiful day though so it will be nice to get some yard work in.

Right now I am::::
Sitting on the couch and Lola is literally draped over my lap because she wants the toast I have for breakfast.  Silly dog.  I did take my shower already and am fully dressed for the day, usually I'm not that fast in the morning.

As I look around the house::::
Same ol' story with packing moves everywhere.  There are also some paint cans as I've been painting the walls, especially my chalkboard wall, which I'm sad about having to paint over.

On today's to do list::::

Cleaning
Homeschooling
Yard work

Dodging Curveballs

Sunrise

Hello friends :)

Well, it's Thursday morning and here I am, ready to sit down for a little and say hi, give you a small update and share a cup of coffee.

No matter how much I want to keep up with the blog, it's just not happening at the moment.

Life has been throwing us some major curveballs and I've been desperately dodging and when possible, grabbing and throwing them back.......far, far away from our lives.

I'm exhausted physically and mentally and quite honestly there are days that I just want to crawl into bed, pull the covers over my head and wake up a few months from now.  Then I realize that isn't possible or productive, so I push through and keep putting one foot in front of the other.

Breakfast

For the most part life is the same, in some ways.  I still enjoy waking up early before the house is awake, and taking some time to sit and read, check through email, enjoy a quiet breakfast etc.

And then there are the curveballs.

I think the biggest two we've been thrown have to do with the IRS and the kid's schooling with Connections Academy.

Oh IRS, I don't know about you but that name gives me hives.

So for the year of 2013, when my husband was enrolled in school, we unknowingly, and I say unknowingly because we truly didn't do it intentionally.....entered in one of his school w2's in the wrong section.

What has that error cost us?   $3600.

Yes, we are now being told we need to pay back $3600.  I'm sorry folks but that is not money that I have laying around or money that I could even come up with that quick to pay this off.  It's frustrating, it's disappointing and it's sad and nerve wrecking.  We have to pay it off in installments, obviously, but what horrible timing as we are trying to prepare for this move across country.

I am leaving it in the Lord's hands and I know it will all work out.

Sunrise

Then we come to the kid's schooling.  Texas has some crazy state legislation in place that is probably, at this point pretty certainly, going to prevent us from enrolling in Texas Connections Academy for the coming school year.

According to them, and mind you Texas is the ONLY state that requires this, my children will have to have attended a Texas public school before being eligible to enroll for the new year.

WHAT?!?!?!?!?

Not happening.  There is a reason why my children are in Connections and have been for the past 5 years.  I will  NOT put my children in public school, no matter the setting, or the reason.

I'm beyond frustrated at this point and I just don't understand why we can't even transfer the kids to the Texas Connections for the remainder of the year and then enroll them.

It might just end up that we move to Oklahoma, close to the border with Texas and have my children attend the Oklahoma Connections Academy.  Very strong possibility of that.

I would really appreciate some prayers at this point, not just for this but for the IRS and the move and everything else in my life.

It's one roller coaster that I can't seem to step off, and frankly, I'm starting to feel nauseated with the ride.

Packing

Aside from the craziness, the packing and preparing continues.  I've got piles of things all over the house and as I pack boxes, I move them to the garage to the area where everything is ready to go into the moving truck.

Spackling Paste

I've also been taking down pictures, filling in nail holes and pretty much making sure the house is ready for the walk through and move out.

Painting

The other day I had to paint over the chalkboard wall that I so loved.  That was a sad moment for me, but I'm hoping I can get another put up in Texas, or Oklahoma, or wherever we're moving to.

It is a lot of work, but I think that doing it this way is so much easier than leaving everything until the last minute and then rushing to get the house cleaned and patched up etc before moving out.  I would rather take my time.

I also have so many recipes that I need to put up on the food blog, and just haven't had time, I hope that I can carve out some time this weekend and sit down and just get everything updated.  Who knows, we'll see how things go.

Right, now I have to get on up, get dressed for the day and get cracking with my to do list.

Sure hope you are all doing well, I miss chatting with everyone, I miss visiting blogs, I miss taking photos and putting up posts and I miss the simplicity and the calm that I used to have last year.  I know I'll have it all back soon but sometimes it's frustrating and I can't see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Anyway, let me get on with things.  Sending you all lots of love.

Happy Homemaker Monday - 04/05/2015

Good morning everyone.

Right, first I want to say that I'm so thankful that you all still continue to come by and participate in the Happy Homemaker Monday. Second I want to say that I miss my blog so very much and I don't think I've quite ever gone this long without posting a normal entry. Saddens me that I've been away and I want more than anything to get back in the game.

Life is just so complicated and busy at the moment that I'm quite tired of it, to be honest. I miss the old days where I had a much quieter and calm daily life, where I took photos and posted on here and talked to you all, I really really really wish and hope to go back to that. We'll see how things go.

The weather outside is::::
36 degrees at the moment.  It actually rained last night, but I didn't even notice, only saw everything wet this morning when I went to take Lola out.  The high today is supposed to be 55, so not really too warm.  Have I said lately how much I miss the warm weather???

On the breakfast plate this morning::::
Coffee for now, maybe a piece of toast.  I'm completely cutting out diet coke again and going back to just water.  I need the water, I feel much better when I'm just on water, my skin looks better and I feel overall healthier.  So, today is the day.......water again.

As I look outside my window:::
Everything is wet from the rain storm last night.  I see the sun peeking in through the clouds so maybe we'll still get some sun later today.  The trees are all starting to bloom and it looks beautiful.  I really do love Spring time.

Right now I am::::
Sitting here in my pj's and typing up this entry.  Trying to keep a running list of things I have to get to today, hope I can remember everything.

As I look around the house::::

PLEASE, don't add links to this list that are not part of the Happy Homemaker Monday. I've asked numerous times, and I'm frankly quite tired of having to remove links to other posts that shouldn't be in this list. Please be respectful of my request!
