Happy Homemaker Monday - 08/11/2025

 happyhomemakermonday

Good morning, welcome back to my blog.  Yes, as you can see things have changed a little, I went back to my simple template.  Not that I didn't enjoy the other one, but I guess I am not into the newer sleek templates, they start feeling very impersonal to me.  I like to add my touches, my headers and the backgrounds, you know what I mean.

So, it is Monday the 11th of August.  I celebrated my 51st birthday yesterday, there was no big celebration, so special anything.  I have found that the older I get, the less I care about birthdays and making big deals about them.  I prefer a quiet, subdued, relaxed day doing the things I always do but just with the added thankfulness for the blessing of having another year gifted to me by my Lord.

Tomorrow we celebrate 27 years of marriage which is crazy to think as well.  It surely doesn't feel like it's been that long.

We are also celebrating my husband's accomplishment.  He finally got his VA disability done, after many years of us telling him to apply, all of his coworkers and bosses pushing him as well.  He just never wanted to do it, but, finally did and we received his Disability letter a few days ago.  Another blessing from the Lord.  It's been a month of blessings so far, and I can not wait to see what the rest of the year holds.

Now, I think I have babbled long enough.  Let's get right on with our Happy Homemaker Monday for today.  I also have a post tomorrow with my August Reading books, a book review and many more posts planned as well.  I'm excited to get back on track and get this blog looking like it is supposed to, a daily record of my days.

Have a blessed week my friends ♥

The weather:::
We've had a summer a lot cooler than usual, which I'm very grateful for.  Seems that we're past the triple digits already, with maybe a day here or there still pushing the limit, but for the most part, we're staying in the 90s.

As I look outside my window:::
At the moment it is pitch black and I can't see anything out of my bedroom window.

Right now I am:::
Sitting on my bed and working on this post.  Kaia and Elliott are asleep next to me, and I'm watching one of Grizzly True Crime's videos on YouTube, about the Idaho Four students.

Something fun to share (a blog, a video, a tip):::
I have started a new crochet project.  Don't laugh, I know, I want to start laughing hysterically too because the amount of projects I have currently ongoing, is ridiculous.  However, I am creating a blanket of squares that represent each book I read this year.  I wanted something super easy and quick to do, but still pretty to put together at the end of the year.

I settled on the Retro Daisy Square which is really easy to work up.  Some of you may already know the square or may have made some yourself, but I thought I would share anyway in case someone wants to give it a go.

Thinking and pondering:::
Nothing in particular, just the usual homemaking, groceries, menu planning and budget going through my mind.

On my bedside table:::
My current book, my water bottle and the tv remote control.

What I'm currently reading:::
I finished One Thousand White Women by Jim Fergus, and am starting today the next in the trilogy, called The Vengeance of Mothers.
Finishing The Idaho Four By James Patterson and Vicky Ward

On my tv:::
YouTube homemaking videos
Crime channels on YouTube
Book hauls, book reviews, book TBR lists
Paradise on Netflix

Listening to:::
A booktuber on YouTube.  My roosters crowing out back.

On the menu for this week:::
After two weeks of eating absolute trash, I am finally back on track with my healthy eating.  I did have a slice of cake and some chocolate yesterday for my birthday, but that is it.  I am off the sugar again this week.  I allow myself some sweets on the weekends, but during the week I am very strict with what I eat.

Monday - One Pot Shawarma Chicken and Rice, Salad
Tuesday - Smoked Sausage Alfredo Pasta, Broccoli and Cauliflower
Wednesday - Panda Express (anniversary so we're grabbing something quick out)
Thursday -  Spaghetti Bolognese (zucchini noodles for me), Garlic Bread and Salad
FridayIn N Out Burgers, Sweet Potato Fries
Saturday - Ervilhas com Ovos (Portuguese Pea Stew), Bifanas (Pork Sandwiches)

On my to do list:::
Change Bed linens
Water plants
Daily Bible reading and daily decree
Daily 10k steps
Meal plan and grocery list
Budget plan for August

What I am sewing, crocheting, knitting or creating:::
Juicy Fruits and Whipped Creme crochet throw from Yarnspirations.
Crochet Couch for my grand furry kitten.
Retro Daisy Granny Squares

My simple pleasure:::
Legos.  Yes they are usually for kids, but I got the most stunning Flower Legos from my brother in law Chris, for my birthday, and I can not wait to get started.  I love putting together Legos and puzzles and all those kind of things.

Looking around the house:::
Need to give the carpets a good clean again.  They will be gone by the end of the year and I am counting down the minutes.  I can't wait for them to be gone.  But for now, they need to be kept clean and it's an ongoing battle.  I just need to dust as well, vacuum, and do the usual daily tidying around the house.

From the camera:::
Upcoming book review.

Bible verse, prayer, devotional:::
Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you. - Isaiah 60:1 NIV

Thank you Lucie :) And yes, I have found that if I am good during the week, and allow myself to indulge a little on the weekend, I can keep that sweet tooth craving at bay. If I don't allow any sugar at all, I tend to completely ruin it and then eat too much.

Happy Birthday! You and I are so close in age. My 51st birthday is next Wednesday. And Happy Anniversary as well! I'm glad you could spend your day doing what you love best. I'm also a "quiet celebrator" if I can help it. And your Lego gift is so cool!
