{ Blogtober 2025 - Day 3 - A cosy place to craft }

As I have stepped more into my home, and the crafts that I have loved for so very long, I have found myself wishing for a place to sit and craft.  A place I can have a surface to work on, look out the window, enjoy the lazy afternoon sun through the lace curtains, and sips cups of hot coffee or tea.

I was thinking that when Jasmine moved out, her bedroom would become a guest room/craft room for me, but within a month of her moving out, my brother in law moved in and has been with us ever since.  I love having him here, but I do wish I could have my craft room.  No need to fuss though, it will happen eventually, but until then, I just need a little corner to myself......and that is what I worked on yesterday afternoon.

My bedroom is my haven.  I think I spend most of my days either in my kitchen or the bedroom.  I have made it a place where I can sit and relax, draw away from the noise and clutter elsewhere and allow myself to slip into a fun book or a relaxing craft.  I've always had my desk in the bedroom too.  I thought many times of moving it elsewhere, but then I think "why?  what is the need?".

The older I get, the more I realize that I don't need to be faffing around with a perfect home and by perfect, I mean by societies standards.  Desks out of the bedroom, decorate this way, use that color, don't do this, don't do that.  Nope, that's not for me.  As long as it doesn't look cluttered or out of place, I will leave it.

But, it was on the wall across the room, where I felt it was a bit of an eye sore and a bit in the way.  I also wanted to be able to sit and look out my two windows while I wrote a blog post, watched a video on YouTube, crocheted or knitted.

So I moved it, and placed a thing here, and a decoration there, a pumpkin, a candle, some wonderful books, and some pretty flowers.  Quickly it has become my favorite corner in the room.  Whereas before I wouldn't want to sit at the desk for long, I now have to pull myself away.  That's a good thing, in my opinion.

I love this corner, the desk fits right in and sits between the two windows, and right next to my white bookshelves to the left.

I don't like that the window air conditioner is there, but it won't be for much longer as we haven't needed to use it as much, now that the weather is slightly cooler.  I love it in the summer because our bedroom and office, are additions to the original house which was built in 1969, and for some reason, even though they ran vents and did whatever, the air conditioner and central heating, never seem to fully reach this side.  Summers are extremely hot in this bedroom, and we need to keep the ceiling fan on, and this air con running, but it is an eye sore, I admit it, and I can't stand it, but it's a necessity and really no one but us sees it.......well......now all of you see it too, but that's besides the point.  Hahahah

Right behind my laptop are my admin books, my grocery notebook, my meal plan notebook and the budget notebook too.  I do have a few books in there as well, just because I adore books and feel they need to be everywhere.  If it were up to me, every nook and cranny in this house would have a book.

I crocheted this pumpkin coaster last year.  I was planning on making more but never got around to it, so it fits perfectly in with my desk decor and holds my sweet autumn mug with some steaming coffee.

I sit here at the desk while working on the blog, but I also watch some videos and crochet and knit.

With the temperatures dropping, I tend to reach for my knitting needles more than my crochet hooks, but I do a little of both.  However, for some reason, knitting hurts my arthritic fingers more than crochet does.  I would love to know if any of you deal with this and if you have any advice at all.  Specific knitting needles or anything I can do to help it be more comfortable, I would hate to never knit again.

On my knitting needles, which by the way are very precious to me as they were a gift from my grandmother Odete, when I was about 15 years old.  It is the only set I have that have survived my childhood, traveled across the ocean from South Africa to the States in 1998, and have somehow managed to not get lost through tons of state moves during our active time in the Air Force.

I think I would be devastated if I ever lost them.

Anyway, on the needles I have a dishcloth that I am making in a very cute pattern called Chinese Wave.  I wanted something simple that didn't require a lot of stitch counting and such.  I love to knit while watching TV and want something easy to work up.  You can find the pattern over on Nourish +  Nestle

As far as crochet, I have just finished gathering my yarns for a new project.  I probably shouldn't, actually, I know I shouldn't get into another CAL blanket, but one of my favorite creators Helen from Crystals and Crochet, has just released her new blanket, and it's free to make and beautiful as all her blankets are.

She just released the first part of the pattern today, and you can find it over on her blog, where you can download the PDF file for free, either with photos or just the text.  Helen also always releases YouTube videos as she crochets along with us.  I have made a few of her blankets and just love them all.

Head on over and read the introduction of the blanket, and then grab the first part to download before heading over to her channel to follow along.

I find that these colder months, I tend to craft more and really enjoy sitting inside on a cold day with a wonderful project in hand.

I would love to know if you have a specific area for crafting too, where you craft and what kind of projects you enjoy when the seasons change to colder months.

I LOVE that you mentioned your desk being in your room. I've struggled with that from time to time, all of the minimalists that I read behind say no, never put your desk in your bedroom! But mine is the coziest little space and I've always loved it there! So I've decided like you, I need a space that works for me, not the other way around! I'm working on fitting my spaces that work for us, not the way that everybody says it has to be- I have exercise equipment in my bedroom, as well as a desk! And I like it that way!
Also, I don't know about knitting or crocheting, but my daughter started dealing with painful joints really early in life. Her piano teacher said that's extremely common for pianists to have and it will only get worse, so she advised her to soak her hands at least once a week in Epsom salt. That seems to be working for her, so maybe you could give it a try! Oh, won't it be wonderful when we are in our glorified bodies!
I hope you have a wonderful day, thanks for sharing and inspiring Blogtober!

What a great post. I so enjoyed it. I have a small craft room that a mess and I find myself crafting in our large living room where I can be part of the action. Keeps me more organized and less mess because everyone can see it. My bedroom has a reading spot, so it's my late night spot. Have a blessed week's.

Sandra, yes with the desk in your room! I believe in cozy spaces in every room. I love a reading corner in every room and I think it's a great idea to be able to sit at your desk, work on your craft and watch an inspiring video at the same time or even put worship music on and just create something. I have my desk in my room and I sit here every morning with my coffee, catching up on everyone's blogs and doing a little writing of my own. It's perfect.
