We have been living in Texas for 13 years, and I will say that even though I've grown kind of used to the Tornado season, I don't think I will ever be fully at ease. I don't mind rain, matter of fact if you know me, you know I love a good rain downpour, but when the winds kick up to 80 mph, we have flooding, and super strong storms all under the cloud of a Tornado Watch, it makes one question why they would ever have thought that living in Tornado alley was a good idea.
But alas, we go where the Lord wants us to, and no doubt you will know our journey to Texas, and how we ended up here. It was not our choice, or even in our thoughts, but God had other plans for us, and when we followed through, we discovered blessings beyond all measure. Aside from these yearly scary months, we have come to adore Texas, and consider ourselves Texans through and through.
I have sat at this chair, watching the storms outside, admiring nature in all it's glory. One thing storms and lots of rain bring, is the greenest grass you will ever see. All the trees are fully bloomed, all the plants are swaying back and forth with their stunning flowers, and animals are happily going back and forth between the food we put out for them, and their hiding spots.
I take such joy in just sitting in the quiet, watching them go about their business. I've chuckled a few times at their naughtiness, or how innocently they play without a single care in the world.
I've read, crocheted, drank cups of hot milky tea or steaming hot coffee, and just allowed myself to fully take in our property and the beautiful place we live in.
This time of stormy weather, has also made me slink back into my shell of sorts, away from my phone, and more to the simple activities that make me smile. I have caught up on some amazing period dramas and have loved every second of it. It's reignited my love for this genre of tv shows and I intend on diving right in over the next few weeks.
So far, I have watched The Leopard on Netflix. I enjoyed it, though I wasn't thrilled with the ending. I also watched and fell in love with Beecham House, only to find out that there was only 1 season of 6 episodes and they canceled it, leaving us in a total cliffhanger. I hate when that happens, but I don't regret getting invested in that beautiful series.
At the moment, I am watching Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light, and really enjoying it too. I've always been the biggest fan of the first Wolf Hall series and anything to do with the Tudors and King Henry VIII, so this is quite a wonderful reward to be seeing the newer one. As always, the actors have outdone themselves.
And so go my days, somewhat of a mixture between anxiety as the strong winds kick in and the tornado warnings come, but also immersed in leisurely activities that I like, things that spark my imagination and make me happy.
I hope you too take advantage of the simple things, and make time for yourself to enjoy the things you love.
