{ Happy Homemaker Monday - 04/29/2019 }

Good morning everyone, welcome to another Happy Homemaker Monday.

I am rushing to get this post up pretty quick, as I need to get Jasmine off to work, then back home to get my day started, I have a lot I need to do.

I hope you've all had a restful, good weekend and a great week ahead.

{ Grandma visited, more rain and some homemaking }

It is almost 1pm and grandma just left the house.  She came to visit yesterday afternoon and stayed the night with us.

Grandma Pat always makes an effort to come and visit the kids for their birthdays, it's something they love and look forward to, and so do Curt and I.  She is an amazing woman, sweet as honey and with a faith so strong that it's at times almost intimidating, in a good way :)

{ Happy Birthday Jasmine - The big 20 }

Y'all!!!!  I have a twenty year old, a TWENTY.YEAR.OLD!!!

I just can't even wrap my brain around that. 

My baby, the little girl that made me a mama, my feisty red head, my mini me, turns 20 years old today. 

She is working, she is growing up, she is a woman, and I'm sitting here just wondering where on earth time went.

Our daughter has gone through a lot, but she's managed to come out on top, pushed through the obstacles, the heart aches, failed relationships and a tough battle with depression and anxiety.

She is absolutely glowing, loving life, full of ideas for the future and just basically enjoying every minute of growing into an adult.

As parents, we sit back and watch and try to guide, which isn't always easy but watching your children grown from little ones to full grown adults with a life of their own, is insane.  I'll leave it at that. 

So today, as she turns 20, my wish for her is that when the hard moments in life come knocking at her door, that she will continue to have the strength, wisdom, morals and values to guide her through and come out shining on the other side.  The world is at her feet, and it can be scary at times, but beneath the sweet and tiny little body, is a fierce, strong, driven young woman and whatever she sets her heart to, I know she will achieve.

Happy Birthday my babe, I love you and I'm so proud of everything you've accomplished until now.

My Thoughts:

This was such a beautiful story.

It kicks off with a tragic accident that takes Mia's sister, and leaves her with quite serious injuries, scars on the surface but deeply ingrained scars on the inside too.  Mia has a lot to deal with, her bodily scars are a constant reminder of the horrible day, but those are easier to heal than the hurt and grief she pushes through on a daily basis.

Mia is 15, a teenager and we know that at that age everything seems so much harder to go through, so when given the opportunity to go to New York to spend the summer with her grandmother, Mia takes it.  She is struggling to deal with her new life, one without her older sister, one where she fights with her internal struggle of survivor's guilt, and she is also now having to adapt to a new place with a grandmother she doesn't really know.

Mia's grandmother finds her a job and before long she is making friends with Fig, a quirky, bright colored hair girl that brings joy and laughs to not only Mia's life but to us as readers.  I quite enjoyed getting to know this character, as well as her strange but quirky group of friends.

What Mia learns through this summer is that grief is different for everyone, and that every single person you come across, has a past they've had to deal with, struggles they've had to overcome and are just trying to do the best they can.

Book definitely gets a big thumbs up from me.
