My Thoughts:

Romance, suspense and a good story to boot.

This IS book #3 in the series but I honestly didn't feel that I lost anything or had no clue what was happening.  It is quite a good standalone, now obviously if you like reading things in order, may I suggest you go read up on book #1 and #2 which are titled Fatal Chaos and Fatal Reckoning.

In Fatal Invasion, Sam is called onto the scene of a home invasion which results in two burned bodies, and two witnesses left alive.....5 year old twin boys.  Sam makes the heart wrenching decision to take the boys home with her, they have nowhere to go, and she needs to solve the case and try to get as much information out of them as possible.

In the middle of all this, we get to see how Sam and her husband Nick deal with the sudden changes in their lives, two young children to care for and protect, the bonding between them and their adoptive son as well as other family members.

In the book we also get an insight into the lives of Sam's partner who is headed down the aisle in less than a week after the crime, and another detective in their department struggling with his own addiction demons brought on after the death of his partner in the line of duty.

Good book if you enjoy suspense.
