{ Lark Rise to CandleFord }

http://www.bbc.co.uk/wiltshire/content/images/2008/01/31/larkrise_candleford_14_470x350.jpg

Set in the small hamlet of Lark Rise and the wealthier neighbouring market town, Candleford, at the end of the 19th Century, the series chronicles the daily lives of farm workers, craftsmen and gentry, observing characters in loving, boisterous and competing communities of families, rivals, friends and neighbours. Lark Rise to Candleford is a love letter to a vanished corner of rural England and a heart-warming drama series teeming with wit, wisdom and romance.

I did it again, I had been hearing about this series from England and became very curious because after all, it's just the type of show that I love. It reminds me of Road to Avonlea and Christy and such. But after looking around here in the States, I realized it's not available on any of our TV networks, not even on the BBC channel.....but I did manage to find it on You Tube and boy am I happy I did.

If you're interested in watching the first episode, you can find it here. Let me know what you think because I've just started watching today and I'm completely hooked, I can't wait for more.

In the meantime if you want to read the book from where the series were made, you can find it here, it was written by Flora Thompson.

Just thought I would share with you and if you're in England and have seen this series, let me know what you think.

Right now, I'm off to make some Griddle Scones courtesy of Dorca's Kitchen from the series.

Ingredients
8 oz self-raising flour
¼ teaspoon salt
1½ oz butter
1 oz sugar
¼ pint milk

Method
1. Sieve the flour and salt together and rub in the butter until the mixture is like fine breadcrumbs.
2. Stir in the sugar and mix with the milk to make a soft but firm dough.
3. Knead well and roll out ½ in. thick. Cut into 2 in. rounds.
4. Sprinkle a hot griddle or thick frying-pan with flour and place the scones on top.
5. Cook until golden brown underneath. Turn carefully and cool until the other sides are golden brown.

Yes I'm really intrigued by this series, everyone is raving about it. I noticed the DVD on my friend's table and I might just ask to borrow it!

It is great and it is actually on this minute on BBC1! My Gran used to make those scones, Sandra. I still have her recipe book!

I'm loving the TV series - just watched the latest episode this evening. We are half way through the second series now. I like the book too. We live fairly close to the real "Lark Rise" ... Juniper Hill in Northamptonshire, if you want to look on Google Maps. Laura's old house was up for sale a few years ago. You can see a picture of it here.

I did not need another project. Just got through crying on hubby's shoulder that there are just not enough time in the day for all that I want to do. But can I pass up making scones and watching this series, I don't think so!
