{ Upcoming Period Dramas in 2019 and current Period Dramas to watch }

 Good morning everyone, come on in and sit with me a little.  I have a hot cup of coffee with some Oreo Creamer, it is delicious, and I also have a list of upcoming period dramas mainly from the UK, to share with you.

Oh there are some good ones coming up, I'm excited to watch and I know that a lot of my readers are as big a fans of Period Dramas as I am, so grab a cup of coffee or tea and sit a bit, I have a lot to share with you :)

Upcoming Period Dramas in 2019

World on Fire (mini-series)

Set during the first year of World War II, and from the makers of Poldark and Parade's End.  Will air on BBC One.

Beecham House (six part series)

The story is based in Delhi, before the British ruled the region, and follows the residents of Beecham House, an imposing mansion surrounded by acres of exotic woods and pristine lawns.  Series will air on ITV.

Catherine the Great (Four part mini series)

Set in the 18th century Russian Court and follows the story of Catherine the Great who ruled Russia for 34 years.  Series will air on HBO and Sky.

Les Miserables (mini series)

Adaptation of Victor Hugo’s 1862 novel about Jean Valjean, a former convict unable to escape the shadow of his past life, and his relentless pursuit by the chilling police officer Javert.  Series will air on BBC One and PBS.

The Luminaries

Set in New Zealand during the 1860s gold rush, The Luminaires follows British adventurer Anna Wetherell (Eve Hewson) as she searches for a new beginning across the globe.  Series will air on BBC Two.

Sanditon (mini series)

Written only months before Austen's death in 1817, Sanditon tells the story about the love that emerges between Charlotte Heywood and Sidney Parker, after Charlotte moves to the coastal town where she discovers who she is and finds love.  Series will air on ITV and PBS.

Summer of Rockets (mini series)

Set in the UK during the tumultuous year of 1958, as Britain tests its first hydrogen bomb and the Soviets launch their first ballistic missile, beating the Americans by successfully sending a Satellite into space.  Series will air on BBC Two.

The War of the Worlds (mini series)

Horsell Common in Surrey is struck by a huge meteor, and the inhabitants of Earth slowly fall victim to a vicious invasion. The three-part drama follows one man’s attempt to escape the ruthless Martians – but they are determined to destroy all human life as they attempt to conquer the earth.  Series will air on BBC One.

The Victorian House of Arts and Crafts (four part series)

This new four-part series from Lion Television Scotland for BBC Arts will air on BBC Two in January 2019 and transport six modern-day craftspeople - three men and three women - back in time to live and experience first-hand the ideas and practices of Arts and Crafts visionaries William Morris, John Ruskin and Gertrude Jekyll.

Cut off from 21st century life, the group of six artisans will be transported back into a remote Victorian Arts and Crafts bubble where they must lovingly breathe life back into an original Arts and Crafts property.

Forming a community and living and working collectively, they must decorate and furnish four key spaces, one per episode, making everything from scratch, inspired by nature and in keeping with the rules of the movement.

They’ll make hand-printed wallpaper, bespoke craft furniture, furnishings and ceramics using archives and original source material related to the home and community, transforming it into a spectacular Arts and Crafts showcase.

Dracula

Three feature length episodes will re-introduce the world to Dracula, the vampire who made evil sexy. In Transylvania in 1897, the blood-drinking Count is drawing his plans against Victorian London. And be warned: the dead travel fast.

Current Period Dramas to watch:

The ABC Murders
 The year is 1933 and a killer stalks Britain, known only as A.B.C. They strike in a methodical pattern and leave a copy of the ABC railway guide at the scene of each of murder. As Poirot (John Malkovich) attempts to investigate he is thwarted on every front; by a police force that no longer trusts him, a public that no longer adores him, and an enemy determined to outsmart him. If Poirot is to match his most cunning nemesis everything about him will be called into question; his authority, his integrity, his past, his identity.

The Long Song
 The Long Song opens just as 300 years of slavery are finally coming to an end on the British-ruled island of Jamaica. But far from being a harrowing tale of misery that one might expect from such a history, The Long Song is a story of hope, passion, determination, and humour in the face of adversity. It follows a defiant, wily young woman, July, who is born a slave, but ends up as the mother of a gentleman.

Death and Nightingales
Based on Eugene McCabe's modern Irish classic, `Death And Nightingales' is a riveting story of love, betrayal, deception and revenge, set in the beautiful haunting countryside of Fermanagh in 1885.

Mrs Wilson
After the sudden death of novelist and former Secret Intelligence Service agent Alexander Wilson in 1960s London, his wife Alison is forced to investigate when mysteries from her late husband's past come knocking.

Victoria and Albert:  The Royal Wedding
Aided by a team of experts, Lucy will recreate the most important elements of the ceremony and the celebrations, scouring history books, archives, newspapers and Queen Victoria’s diaries for the details. She'll reveal how every moment was brilliantly stage-managed for maximum effect.

Suffragettes with Lucy Worsley
Documentary, presented by Lucy Worsley, which uses dramatised testimony to tell the story of a group of working-class women conducting a dangerous campaign for the vote.

A group of modern-day workers experience working in a British garment factory. They start their journey in 1968, and the reality of the production line proves a rude awakening.

Rise of the Clans
Series following an epic struggle for power in medieval Scotland, told from the point of view of the feuding clans.

Britain's Biggest Dig

The series will reveal the stories of people from the Stone Age right up to the 20th century - not just on the route itself, but right across the country.
Throughout the archaeological works, cameras will capture what is happening on site, from excavating huge Georgian and Victorian inner-city graveyards to finding the remains of Romano-British homes. The series will also dig deep into the archives to tell the stories of those who lived and were buried on the route - from painters and London prizefighters to medieval peasants and lords. With the use of the latest archaeological science, it will also explore the wider stories about what these sites can tell us, including where people came from and the food that they ate.

Danny Dyer's Right Royal Family (two part series)

In the upcoming new series, Dyer will eat, dress, and live exactly how our ancestors did back in the day.

I know it's a long list, but I think I've given you quite a bit to take in, whether you're looking for a new upcoming period drama to watch, or want to indulge in the ones already on screen, I'm sure you will find something amongst this list to watch.
