Things I'm loving, want to get, or try

It has been a long, long time since I've done one of these posts.

Do you remember back when we lived in Arizona, I had a weekly feature called Wanna Try that Wednesday?  I think I did a few of these and really enjoyed them, it was a way to bring into one place, all the things I wanted to either try, or make, eventually buy and so on.

In lieu of another typical homemaking day, I decided to do another of these for you all.

Earlier today, I actually finally ordered some slipcovers for my living room couches.  I have been needing some for about 4 years now, but it's one of those things where I say I need it and then never get around to it.   I remembered it earlier and went only quickly to check, and actually found some pretty cheap ones at Walmart that were on clearance, so got them.

They are not super expensive quality, but that's ok with me.  I just need something that will cover the couches, as they're getting super old.  I've never liked the way they look, but they were gifted and are a true blessing to have so we make do with what we have and some slipcovers will do the job.

We shall see, as you know with anything you buy online, you run the risk of them not being what you asked for.  I'll let you know.

One of my favorite book authors is Elizabeth Berg, but it's been years since I've read one of her works.  I was just looking through some of my old blog posts and saw some of her books on my library posts, so now I'm on the hunt for some books again.  She has so many good ones, but these are two that I'm hoping to get soon.

I watched a brilliant documentary yesterday, about the lost diary of Rutka Laskier, a 14 year old girl who kept a journal through Nazi's grip on Poland.  She only wrote it for about 3 months, gave it to her non Jewish friend who was 21 at the time, for safekeeping, and then disappeared behind the Ghetto walls.

“I am writing this as if nothing has happened. As if I were in an army experienced in cruelty. But I’m young. I’m 14, and I haven’t seen much in my life, and I’m already so indifferent. Now I am terrified when I see ‘uniforms.’ I’m turning into an animal waiting to die. One can lose one’s mind thinking about this.” - Rutka Laskier

It was such a touching story and I'm really wanting to get a copy of her journal, it has since been printed as Rutka's Notebook.

In August 1943, Rutka and her family were taken to Auschwitz. She and her mother were killed immediately. Her father survived the war and eventually moved to Israel, where he remarried and had a daughter named Zahava.

I'm printing out these leaves so that I can place them in pretty white frames and use them in my green living room.

Y'all, I wanted to paint the green living room, and I probably still will, eventually.  But I've decided that it's much cheaper to embrace the walls and just work around them.  So I've ordered the slipcovers in a beige color, and I'm going to add some green pops of color here and there.  It's a work in process, but we will eventually get there.

These gorgeous peony curtains in light green and beige.  LOVE!!!

I need a new Cath Kidston tablecloth.  My previous one is getting pretty old, but it's been such a joy to have.  I have had it for 7 or 8 years now and I don't want to use it until it's falling apart, so yeah, on the hunt for a new one.  Really loving this rose patterned one....

Listening to Maluma.  If you love latin music, you need to give him a try, he is fantastic.  He's done quite a few collaborations with well known names, like Ricky Martin, Enrique Iglesias and even Madonna.  This is my kind of music, it does something to me, I know it's the latin blood inside raging to get out LOL

This Creamy Sourdough Snack for the next get together.  It looks divine.

There are many other things I would love to try, or get, but for the moment these are top of the list for me.

What do you have on your want or love to have list?

I’d love to know where you found the curtains, Sandra. I love peonies and have never seen any like those. Also, the botanical prints of the leaves, did you find them online or in a book? Several years ago Inbought a book of botanical prints (flowers and fruits and herbs) on amazon that claimed to be suitable for framing but the book I received was poor quality, the colors weren’t as shown online and they were streaky, as though the book printing was badly done.

Try looking on Thriftbooks. I don't know how I didn't know about this website, but I saw it mentioned on another blog a few weeks ago. I spent $30 but I'm now the proud new owner of 8 new books. :)

All of these things look wonderful to try and that tablecloth is so darling! The book I definitely need to find as I love history and so do my daughters. My youngest is 13 and I know she would be interested in reading about Ruth. Thanks for sharing this! Have a wonderful weekend.

Blessings,
Jill
