Sunday night....

I can't believe it's already Sunday night, I wish the weekend wasn't already over with.  *sigh*

How was your weekend?

You all know how I spent my Saturday and today was kind of the same.

The hubby and I had to go to base today for the rest of the groceries that we didn't get yesterday.  Thankfully, the commissary was quiet and nothing like Walmart, I was able to do my shopping in a calm matter and not feel so rushed and so closed in.

I spent a little more than I wanted to, but it's understandable with having to get the Turkey and everything else for the Thanksgiving dinner.  Plus more firewood and such.

It was freezing cold, only 10 degrees but felt like 0.  Cold, cold and cold.  I just wanted to stay in bed but well, that wasn't in the plans.

We didn't leave until about 11am so by the time we got back it was lunch time.  Kind of nibbled on some snacks and decided to not cook lunch because we were headed to my brothers house at 4:30pm and we always eat there.

While the kids and hubby hung out and chatted and played together, I got all the groceries put away.  I don't know why, but today it felt like I took 2 hours to get everything unpacked and in it's rightful place.  I think it may have also been because I reorganized a few of the shelves in the fridge.

I did stop to get a cup of tea, I opted for this lovely Pumpkin Spice Chai Tea.  It definitely hit the spot.

Anyway, got the groceries taken care of, did the dishes, started the laundry and folded a load, by the time I actually sat down it was almost 4pm.

Not a lot of time to relax, but I managed to sit, or rather, lay, on my bed for about 20 minutes and watched a quick show on Hulu.

I really wanted to lay there and do nothing else for the rest of the day, especially with that cold weather outside.

One of the reasons Jasmine and I went over to their house earlier than usual for our Walking Dead watching, is that we were trying out the Jamberry Nails.  I have a review coming up this week.

_MG_8219

We had such a good laugh trying these nail wraps on. There's nothing like sitting down with a bunch of girls and doing girly things while chatting and being silly.

Anyway, it is now 10:30pm and I am pooped, so I'm going to end this post and get some shut eye.

See you all in the morning for our Happy Homemaker Monday :)

Ice, grocery shopping and movies!

Icicles

Woke up to such a huge mess out there.  The snow stopped last night, but we got some rain and it just froze everything.

Our street looked like an ice skating rink, so shiny and slippery.  I don't like driving when it is like this as my car is not very good for this kind of weather.  Rather, I should say, my tires are not very good for icy weather.

Icy road

Everything is still white, we got a lot of snow, and according to the news beat the previous record for November which was back in 1935.  Goodness!

Snowy mountain

As much as I would have rather stayed inside where it was nice and warm, I had to go out.  I couldn't put off grocery shopping anymore.

Cold

I usually get my groceries at the base commissary but because the roads were so bad, we didn't want to chance it driving out there, so I told hubby we would just go to Walmart.  I didn't get everything I needed but got most of it, and then tomorrow morning when he has to go to the commissary for work, I will go along and get the rest.

Walmart is usually crazy on a good day, but this afternoon was impossible.  I don't know why there were so many people in there, the aisles were crowded, the checkout lines were long and at one point I started feeling quite claustrophobic.  That is when I told Curt that we  had to leave.  Thank goodness for that decision.

Evening coffee

We came home and I set to work putting the groceries away, something I don't particularly like doing because it seems to take hours on end.

After I was done, I grabbed a cup of coffee and went outside to enjoy the sun which was just starting to set.....yes it was cold but it felt so good to be in the fresh air.

Snowy heart

I didn't stay too long though, it was starting to get quite cold and even my coffee was losing it's heat fast and that is something I just couldn't let happen.  What good is a cold cup of coffee, huh?

Sugar Cookie Candle

I faffed around inside for a bit, tidied up the kitchen a little and got some dishes done all while trying to figure out what we were doing tonight. The hubby and kids decided on movie night, and since we haven't had one of those in a while, it sounded like fun.

Sun setting

A hot shower, my warm jammies, my crochet blanket, another cup of coffee and a slice of coconut cake later, and we settled in to watch a movie.  I had The Purge from Netflix and that was our first movie for the night.

If you enjoy Psychological Thrillers, then you'll enjoy this one.  It was pretty good.

Sun setting

The second movie is currently playing, I'm watching while typing this up.  We went with some fantasy, this one called The Curse of the Dragon Slayer.  It's pretty good so far and since my husband and kids love video games with orcs and dragons and knights etc, they're really enjoying this one.

Evening

I have to be honest, I do too.  I've always enjoyed movies along these lines, it's almost like Lord of the Rings and Hobbit.

Cozy fire

Yep that is our night, warm and watching movies.

Oh and by the way, we managed to get the fire going....we used one of the logs wrapped in paper from Walmart.  One of you had suggested it, and I want to thank you because it really does work and we've been nice and toasty for the past few hours without having to turn on the air.  Yay!

Tomorrow I have housework to look forward to, some grocery shopping, mainly to buy my meats and what I need for Thanksgiving, laundry, ironing, need to wash my carpets and then at night we will be at my brother's for Walking Dead.  I still need to figure out what I'm taking over but I'll talk it out with my sister in law in the morning.

I better finish this up and go watch the rest of the movie.  Since it's still early, I will probably watch some vlogs before bed.

What have you been doing this Saturday?  Anything fun?

Snowed in Friday!!!

Sweater weather

I am so sick of this snow already...........

I'm kidding LOL

I just wondered how many of you would roll your eyes and think "really?  already?".

So yes, it's been snowing non stop since yesterday.  The photos I showed you on my previous blog post are nothing compared to the mess that has been happening outside since the early morning hours.  And mess is an understatement as we're now in that slushy, muddy, dirty brown snow stage of this game.  Oh and if I see another crazy person drive by fast, I may just run out there and give them a mouth full.

Slow down people, it is icy, it is slippery, you can't even see the actual road and you're speeding by.  Put themselves and others on the road at risk.  So frustrating!

My hubby had to leave early this morning for school, which is in Boise 45 minutes away.  I watched him pull out of the driveway and as he turned onto the main road the car slid across the street, and when he straightened up, it slid again.  I said a very quick prayer that he would be safe on the road and make it to college.  I worry so much when he's out in this weather as my car is just not good for snowy roads.

Anyway, I set about having my breakfast.....

Breakfast

Then I quickly took some photos for my coffee review that is coming up tomorrow. Oh and there is a special 20% off code for my readers, so if you like coffee, be sure to come back and check it out :)

Coffee review

The snow kept pummeling down all day, it was just a constant flow, sometimes mixed with tiny little balls of ice, and other times with snowflakes almost as big as the palm of my hand. I have never seen snowflakes that big so it was something new for sure.

While the snowflakes fell down outside, I was inspired to make some for the inside of the house.

Crochet time

Super easy to make and I absolutely adore them.

Crocheted snowflake

This first one above, was made using my 4.25mm hook and the second one I used a 6mm hook to get a bigger size.

Crocheted snowflakes

I am going to make a few more to hang from my kitchen curtains, I think they will look really cute up there.

In the meantime, I got a phone call from my husband letting me know that classes were all cancelled for the day and he was headed back home. He said the car had slid a couple of times which is very unnerving. He also said the highway was horrible, lots of cars sliding off, and instead of going 80mph which is the speed limit, he was only going 35 the whole way. I'm glad he took his time.

Right as I got off the phone with him, the snow really started coming down hard. I kept praying and praying because I knew he was on the road and I couldn't relax until he was back home safe and sound.

I sat down to eat some lunch, which was leftover Beef Stew from last night. So good!!!

Lunch leftovers

Does anyone else think that stew always tastes even better the next day?

My Nicholas finished all his school work and then eagerly stood by the door waiting for the perfect moment to head outside to play. I have no clue what the perfect moment is, I didn't even know there was such a thing as the right moment to go play in the snow. According to the 11 year old, yes there is. I guess I learned something else today. :)

Eagerly waiting to go outside

Since I was already done with my lunch, I headed outside with him for a little. There is something so magical about fresh fallen snow, I wish I could explain and put into words how I feel when I see everything white, the big flakes coming down, the accumulation of snow on the tree branches.

Snowy day

Don't think there are words.

Snowy day

Snowy day

There are also no words to describe how excited kids get playing in this mess.

Nic playingNic playing

Someone who does not enjoy this cold white stuff, is Miss Lola. I can't for the life of me get her to go outside and potty, which is very frustrating because then she runs upstairs and does it in the bedrooms. Yuck!

Miss Lola

Daddy was able to coax her outside for a few seconds and she looks so miserable LOL

Miss Lola

She is definitely not a crow, because those guys were happily walking up and down the road. I didn't quite understand why they were doing that, but whatever, as long as they're happy, right?

Birds on the road

The relentless snow continued, producing the perfect snow for building snowmen.

Huge snowflakes

Lots of snow

I tried to Nicholas to come back inside and out of the cold, but it was useless, as I'm sure you all know if you have young ones who wait all year long for the first real snow to come down.

Snowman

Snowman

He did a good job though, with a little help from daddy and I. We were the official snowman body carriers because he rolled them up but they were far too heavy for him to carry.

I didn't stay out there for long, and when the snowball fight began I could be seen running as fast as my little legs could take me, into the house. There was just no way I would stand out there in the freezing cold getting pelted with snowballs. And by the way, my husband and kids don't play fair......they go straight for the face.

Jerks! LOL

We ordered some pizza for dinner as I have nothing left in the fridge and need to get some groceries, hopefully tomorrow morning but if not, by Sunday morning for sure.

I don't think we have anything planned at all for this weekend, which is fine by me because it is supposed to be quite cold. If we stay in then I foresee some more crochet, some book reading, some tv watching and some online Christmas gifts buying.

Hope you all have a wonderful rest of Friday night. Sending you many blessings.

Snowy Day!

Well, the weather people got it right, we have been hit with cold and snow.  It started early this morning and has just kept going all day long, matter of fact it is still going at the moment.

I know snow is cold and quite a pain to go out in, but I can't help it, I still feel mesmerized watching the flakes coming down.

Right, so about my day, here I am again to do my daily update and show you some more photos.  I know I may not be your traditional blogger with deep thought provoking posts or really teaching you anything, I'm just little ol' me sharing about my day.  It's not always interesting, most days are the usual boring housework, but I try to make it interesting any way I can.

I do hope you enjoy my daily posts, but if there is anything in particular you would like to see me blog about, just let me know.

Early morning bread making

As always, my days start pretty early, even before the sun is up. This morning I had two bread loaves to deal with, so I got those going while the water boiled for coffee.

Since the bread needs to rise for about 2 hours, I got my coffee and breakfast ready. I wanted pancakes again, but I keep forgetting that I don't have eggs and I haven't made it to the store for any, so bagels it was, not exactly what I was craving but still good.

Breakfast

The coffee creamer is the Gingerbread Latte that I am not too fond of, but I can't waste it so I'm drinking it and will do so until it's finished. I won't buy another one until this one is gone.

No Knead Bread

First loaf out of the oven. I absolutely love this bread, it is the easiest bread to make and always turns out amazing.

Bread

And second loaf out. I might go downstairs tonight and get another two batches mixed up, but it depends on if I have enough time after I get this post up and my laundry folded. Not sure yet.

Since I need to go grocery shopping, I don't have much in the house for lunches. The kiddos got the leftover pasta from last night, that is what they wanted, and for me I made a quick salad, which actually turned out amazing.

Salad

The snow continued to come down and as it started sticking the kids all headed outside for their first snow of the year.

Kids in the snow

Girls

While the girls huddled together from the cold, the boys went straight for the snowball fights.

Colby

Because, well, that's what boys do.

Nic

This child of mine couldn't find his gloves, so he showed up with socks on his hands. LOL I swear, he keeps me on my toes.

Snow

Curt went out with the snow shovel to try and clear the sidewalk, our neighbors are elderly and she usually walks back and forth between her house and our other neighbors so we don't want her to fall.

Snow

As much as I love the snow, I can only take it in small doses before my nose is frozen and I can barely feel my toes and fingers.

I left all the boys outside to play in the snow and came in to finish dinner. With the weather we had today, beef stew seemed like the logical choice.

Oh and look what came today. A few weeks back I had the cutest little Girl Scouts at my door selling some items, and the orders came in today. So yummy.....Dark Chocolate Mint Penguins.

Peppermint Penguins

Anyway, I had a little chat with my sister in law when she came to pick up the kids, and then we sat down to eat dinner after they left. You know sometimes I wish I was one of the kids or my husband because once they're done eating and we've all left the table, they get to go do whatever they wish, and as the mom I get left with clearing the table and doing the dishes etc.

Oh gosh, I don't want you to think I'm whining about the housework, I'm really not, but there are days that I kind of wish someone would call me to eat when the meal was ready and then take care of everything once it was done. Know what I mean?

For a while back I would get all the dishes and put them in a sink with soapy water until the morning, but after waking up a few times and being faced with that sight first thing in the day, I quickly realized that it is much better to take 30 minutes after dinner to get everything done, rather than wait and put it off.

Putting away leftovers

Dishes done, table cleaned and set back to normal, leftovers put in boxes for tomorrow's lunch and kitchen tidy. Love waking up to a neat kitchen and no dishes in the sink.

As I type up this post, I look outside and this is what I see....

Snowy night

it is still going strong and the wind is howling something fierce.

AND I just realized that I seem to be getting a cold sore, ugh, I dislike them so much and I seem to get them quite often.

Cold sore

Excuse the tired face, by this time of the day I'm all out of energy and completely pooped.

Before I forget, I wanted to let you all know that I've joined Instagram, so you can now follow Diary of a SAHM and see some little snippits of my day.

Candle Light

Oh I'm knackered, and with the weather the way it is outside, I can think of nothing better than to get into bed with a good show on the TV.  I don't even know what I'm going to watch, probably some Criminal Minds, maybe Tuesday's Agents of Shield, or some Star Trek with the hubster, or.........I will just fall asleep like I always do LOL

Well my family just all headed outside to play in the snow, they are nuts.  It is almost 9pm and there is no way that I am going out there in the cold to play with that stuff, maybe tomorrow but nope, not tonight.

The roads around our area are extremely slick, I see a lot of the cars coming by and sliding, so I'm praying that everyone avoids going out driving in this mess, but if they absolutely have to, that they are safe and take it easy.

For those of you getting hit with this storm like we do, I pray for your safety and that you stay warm.

Have a blessed night, friends,
Sandra
