{ Blog 365 #91 - Trip to Sherman }

April 1, 2023

Curt and I set off early this morning, toward Sherman, TX.

It is where my mother in law lived, and her husband still does.  For me, it was the first time I was returning to the home, since she passed in 2021.  It felt surreal walking in, and looking at the couch where I last hugged her, exactly 2 weeks before she died.

Our reason for the visit, aside from visiting her husband, who is 82 and we love dearly.  We also went to pick up their chicken coop.

They used to have chickens, but some died, and they were left with one.  After my mother in law passed, that chicken stayed around one more year, before also dying.  Due to my father in law's age, and his ongoing health issues, he just doesn't have the time nor the energy to raise any other chickens.

He blessed us with the coop, and we are eternally grateful.

Not only is it a wonderful practical gift, as we start our journey with our chickens, but knowing that it belonged to them both, means even more.

We got to their house, and immediately started the process of pulling everything down, to load onto our trailer.

It took us 3 hours to do, and we ended up with a sunburn too, but it was well worth the work we put in.  Once everything was loaded up, we took our father in law to lunch, then returned to his house, picked up the trailer and started our 3 hour drive home again.

We would have loved to have stayed longer, but we have other commitments here at home that prevent us from doing that.

It's always such a joy traveling down to their town.  The scenery along the way is beautiful, rolling green hills, small ponds, fields and fields of horses and cows.

And half a dozen small towns that represent the best of the best, of small town USA.

I was telling Curt, that I would love to take a day to go down that route again, and stop at each of these towns.  They all have museums, historical markers and mom and pop diners that I would just love to sit down, and eat at.

Maybe this summer, we will plan such a day.

We arrived home in the evening, and were just too exhausted to unload the trailer and truck.  Will have to do that tomorrow, as well as mow the yard, start our garden seeds and get this coop put together again.

I'll show you the progress as we go along, but in the meantime, here are a few more photos of the drive.
