I'm Struggling......

That's how I literally felt when my alarm went off. I don't get it, I could have sworn I had JUST laid down to sleep about five minutes before, how could it be 5:45 am???
But who am I to go against the alarm clock right?

I woke up with a killer headache, which I know is from stress. Things here at paradise h
ave been, oh, not so paradiseish?!?!?
I had a little meltdown last night, I think the headaches I've been getting are stress related and all due to a certain young child named Jasmine.

I love her to death, but she is the most opinionated, gotta-be-my-way, strong-willed, drive my mother and father crazy, kind of child, I've EVER come across. I'm literally holding on to my sanity, I feel like I was placed smack dab in the middle of her teenage years, just that she's only 7 years old.....some cruel joke perhaps???
I don't think a day goes by where she isn't crying about something, whining or complaining about things not going her way, and then yelling at us because she has too much homework, like I'M the teacher. Fiery Red Head indeed!!!

So yes, I had myself a very good cry last night, which left me with not so pretty swol
len eyes and a killer headache. If only I had it because of a wild night on the town!!!
But you know, I'll get through it, I have God holding my hand real tight today, guiding me and advising me on what to say. I even invested in some much needed mouth guards, lest I spout off something out of anger and frustration. I'm GOOD TO GO!!!

We're at 63 degrees this morning, and thunderstorms on the way. It feels great, the weather is cool outside, not muggy and oven hot. I'm really looking forward to the thunderstorms though, we need the rain.
But with that it also means, no more walking to and from school, something I really enjoy, and it helps me stay fit.

This kind of weather gets me in a baking mood, so I'm going to be fixing scones, it's been a long time since I've made them and I don't even have the recipe anymore, so I've been looking for them and came across one posted by Lady Laurie and then a couple more posted at one of my newest favorite blogs, Fish Creek House. Cyd runs a Bed and Breakfast, can we say I'm envious??? It's always been one of my dreams. But anyway, Cyd posts such wonderful photos on her blog AND delicious recipes. You really should go over and see.

I went to the thrift store yesterday, and I came home with a bunch of things. Nothing like finding good bargains. These are some of the items I picked up....

I got more stuff, just haven't had the time to get pictures, but isn't that great???

Anyway, it's time to get my housework under way. Here's what's happening on this side of the world:

Last night I made Mushroom Round Steak, it was really I'm fixing Steak Lo Mein (recipe will be up shortly) and I even have fortune cookies for dessert. It's my first time fixing this recipe too, so wish me luck.
I'm also baking some scones to have this afternoon, along with some hot tea, will be the perfect after school snack :)

Just underneath this post, you'll find some Fall Ideas, a post I did for Momrn2 at My Quiet Corner....she's asking us for decorating ideas for fall, go on over and check out her blog.

  1. I totally love those boots - what a find!

  2. Hey Sandra, thank you for sharing your struggles with your daughter. I too struggle daily with my nine year old girl...she is a handful and some days I just don't know what to do about it. It's nice to know I'm not alone. Laura
PS: Love your thrift store finds. I need to find me a thrift store like yours!

  3. Mmmm scones.. sounds heavenly. I probably would be struggling with Sarah too if I wasn't already dog tired exhausted from the bike to and from school. Great treasures you found! Have a great day!

  4. I'm soooo sorry about your headache and struggles with Jasmine. Hang in there and keep the upper hand. She'll catch on who's boss and will settle down. I think these little girls go through hormonal days before they even have working hormones!

Great thrift store finds. I need to visit your thrift store some day. I don't see nearly as interesting stuff at ours.

  5. I needed my sleep last night too...I was so exhausted.

Hey, I noticed it looks like you switched to Beta Blogger. Do you like it? What are the differences? What do you like and not like about it? YOu can email me at

  6. Your thrift store finds are amazing! Seven-year-olds are always moody - they have adult hormones coursing through their poor little bodies for the first time, and unfortunately mommy is the one who gets used for a scratching post. But the good news is that they don't stay moody - my seven-year-old has really calmed down recently. I'm sorry you're going through such a crummy time, though!

  7. I'm sorry you're going through such a stressful time with Jasmine right now! I get those stress headaches too and I feel for you! I hope things change - quickly! and that your headaches are gone soon.

You sure do find some of the neatest things at the thrift stores!

  8. Love, love, love those boots! Just wearing them oughta make your day get better! LOL :)

I love your cartoon rendition! I think everyone can relate to that one! I'm sorry that you are going through some struggles right now! The headaches always seem to make it even worse! I hope everything gets better!

Steve Irwin is such a sad story! Still can't believe it! His family is in our prayers!

Hope you have a fantastic afternoon and evening! With a little help from a friend- tylenol or ibuprofen, of course! :)

  9. Sandra, I had a cry today! I just had to comment when I read your post about your daughter; I relate all too well. I love my daughter so much, yet struggling w/ liking her. She is 11 1/2 & has ADHD & we have always struggled w/ her being the Boss. I have been led to homeschool her this year & today was my biggest struggle so far, yet w/ God leading me to homeschool, I know He will help me and give me wisdom each day. I pray God will continue to strengthen and encourage you today! In early morning this is the verse, God gave me, He JUST reminded me of it. Galatians 6:9! God is sooooo good! May God's grace cover you today!

  10. I wondered if we'd see anything about Steve Irwin on blogland. Our family was all sad to hear about him too. He was such a fun person. If we'd enjoy life half as much as he did!

  11. Hubby and I are sad about the loss of Steve Irwin too. He was such a great guy that cared so much for others.
It looks like you came across some goodies at the thrift store. I love finding little treasures that someone else saw as junk. It always brings a big smile to my face. Especially when I get it for dirt cheap!
I hate that you are having such a hard time with Jasmine. I know how hard it must be on you and I hope that things get better.
I was meaning to ask you if you could change the background colors on my blog and the header photo as well. I've tinkered and toyed with it til I was blue in the face. I am in dire need of your expertise. I am more than happy to pay you for it if you would like. I know that you are a busy woman, and I feel awful about bothering you.
Have a great day and keep you chin up! You are such a strong person.

  12. What an amazing photo of the lightening..I've been visiting but since you went to beta I can't comment, but will try this...let me know if it works.

  13. worked!! but it would help to let you know who I am...Mugwumpmom...(Rena) that seems to work...when commenting on beta, just press comment as maybe it'll work for beta bloggers commenting on non beta blog sites??? Hint hint...come visit me to see if it does!
    I've missed you Sandra.

  14. I love thunderstorms. LOVE it. Can't wait for our thunderstorm season :) Oh it's not just red heads who can be so headstrong! My little 4 (going on 14) year old is the same. I so know what you are going through

  15. Oh I know what you mean. Jasmine & Alli sound exactly alike. There is not a day that goes by that I'm not ready to pull my hair out!

You always find the best stuff. We must go shopping together sometime. LOL!
    Love ya,
    Court ♥

  16. Sorry about your struggles with your daughter...i think my 9 year old son is a teen aged girl sometimes by the way he acts. Lately he's been sassy and arugmentative towards us. I feel so grouch towards him lately when all I really want to do is correct his behavior and teach him to make better choices. Good luck....enjoy the scones!!!

  17. If you figure out what to do with Jasmine, let me know! I have SlowMo who's almost 10 and driving me insane! She's very selfish, and it makes me crazy. She was having a crying fit yesterday becuase I asked her to pic up the stuff on the stairs. She never wants to help me out...if it's not fun for her, she doesn't want to do it!!! What to do????
