{ Carving Pumpkins - Blogtober 2018 }

It's the last day of October, my word, how did we get here so fast?

The morning started cold and wet and stayed that way all day long.  It was just the most perfect Autumn Day, yet.

I started the day with my sewing machine, doing some last minute adjustments to Jasmine's costume.  I don't get to sew too often, but yet every time I pull out my sewing machine, I'm immediately at home and reminded me of just how much I enjoyed it.

As I sewed, the rain fell outside and created the perfect atmosphere to put on some Anne of Green Gables.

I've been holding off on watching Anne with an E, mainly because I'm a huge fan of the original and for me there will always be no other Anne than Megan Follows.  I couldn't imagine that this newer version would be good or even come close, and it doesn't, but I've been pleasantly surprised at how much I'm enjoying it.

I quickly worked through Jasmine's costume, then put all that aside and pulled out the Pumpkin to carve.

We haven't carved pumpkins for a year or two now, not like we used to with all of us doing our own.  But it's something that I have always enjoyed and find so much fun, so I still carve a pumpkin each year, even if just to roast the seeds which we all enjoy.

I don't know about you, but most people don't really care for this part, the removal of the seeds and all that stringy mess, but I enjoy every single second of it.

I didn't know what I wanted to do with the design, aside from keeping it quite simple and not have to worry about elaborate designs, though I have done those before and enjoyed it as well.

The final result.  A pretty simple design, but I absolutely love how it turned out.  I think for me, it's actually one of my prettier pumpkins, ever.

It was a quiet, really nice day, which ended with a pizza dinner at my brother's house.  We were supposed to hand out candy but only got about 2 or 3 trick or treaters.

I find it so strange how times have changed from when my children were little.  We had the best Halloweens, from the house decorations, to the costumes, pumpkin carvings and even running out of candy because there were so many trick or treaters knocking at the door.

All that has changed.

But that is life, right?

And with that we say goodbye to October, and go full speed into the holidays.  Tomorrow is the 1st, which means I start watching my Christmas movies, yes I do, and I know some think it's too early but hey, no hurt in that right.

I truly hope you have had a good October, and I wish more than anything that November is even kinder to you all.  :)

I love the pumpkin with the cut out stars. It's simple, but beautiful.
